Great video! Lots of valuable information. We have 5 frontosas, all over 2 years old and we love them. They are part of our family. Keep up the good work!!
Thanks John. How many should i start for my 125g? I was thinking 6. Just as you said, a lot of conflicting info about them out there
By area, Lake Victoria is much bigger than Lake Tanganyka, however by water volume you're right. Tanganyka is bigger. Honestly though, this video is incredibly informative (one of the most Informative I have seen on youtube) and I'm a cichlid breeder and watch a lot of youtube fish videos. This just became one of my "must watch" channels. You and your wife seem like a nice couple too which is an added bonus. Keep up the good work.
Wow great video really enjoyed it, I got 10 wild caught Zaire blue moba’s 11 months ago there were around 1.5” - 2” there all around the 5” - 7” mark now, they live in a 1500 litre tank with about 20 clown loach and numerous l number plecos, they seem to coexist very very well as the tank is very chilled with no aggression from no one, I feed them NLS probiotixs as a stable, and chopped prawn a mussel for a treat, I watched your video for the breeding information, looks like I’ll be waiting for around another 2 years yet, never mind there worth the wait, it’s the first time I’ve ever kept frontosa, and there really great fish, I now understand why everyone loves them.
Do species profiles of malawi eye biter, livingstonii , blue dolphin etc
Nice species profile John. My favorite no doubt. I see you found a nice clip of Gill. Definitely some good info. Wish you would have discussed/showed the difference between the groups ie: Kigoma, Burundi, Zaire. I get asked that one a lot and with your audience it would have reached more people. Maybe on another episode.
MrHoney2U you have a beautiful frontosa tank I keep my own front he is still EXTREMELY small and he is in a 20 gallon
I’d like your opinion: do you think a 120 gallon 5 foot tank is sufficient for a small group of fronts? Like 1 male, 3 female?
Thank you this is the most informative video I’ve found so far on n Frontosas
So I know this is an old video, but I have a new 75 gallon tank with 10 peacocks in it. The peacocks are about two inches now, and I’d love to have a frontosa . If I buy a larger front, or raise one in a separate tank would the other cichlids destroy it when I put it in with them (I’m willing to wait until it’s larger than they are).
I have 7 6 strips frontdosa in 220 gallon, and 1 in a 120 gallon with yellow labs, and I have 2 more 220 gallons with 1 black widow in each, can I combine all of the frontdosas?
I actually keep my red devil with peacock haps and mbuna and Oscar. All together they seem to get along fine. Had them together in my 125 for about a year now. No dead fish yet. Fingers crossed 🤞
I have the same. No red Devil but a Blood Parrot
My frontosa started breeding the male was around 5in. And the female is 3.5 to 4 in. I get a small litter of 5 to 7 fry every 3 weeks
I have burundi and samaze fronts in with bulu point and kaiser trophs, Black calvus, lelupi, and Telmatochromis temporalis shell. I went for a tang tank only for the beauty and the tang species.look. Their grow out tank is a 60 gal as they are all at 2 to 4 inch now, 2 being the lelupi. The trophs are at 3 inch. The fronts will eventually go in the 180 gal when they are big enough to survive with my monsters in there. My tap water PH is 7.8 to 7.9 depending on the season. I feed all 35 tanks Xtreme cichlid pellets, all 3 sizes, or flakes because i can get it in bulk reasonably.
Ik this video is old but I went to an imports store and the guy helping me out just refused to sell me a frontossa only because I’m 21 and basically made me feel like I didn’t know anything even tho I’ve had African cichlids for almost 2 years now successfully. I went another day and still got that frontossa. Had to, it’s my moms favorite
a guy whk owns a small aquarium shop here in WA has a 17" frontosa and its amazing!
Im new in this type of fish but love it.I want to set a 125 gallons tank with Frontosa , where you recommend to buy, and how many to start, what sustrat is good , thanks
we have a 75g that we have had for some time. In it are two Frontosa, as well as some other fish. The original Frontosa ( Frank ) has been around a number of years. Louise joined some time after that. Well, Louise is now about 7-8 inches, and Frank is still only about 4 inches. Frank also does not show himself that often. Louise rules the tank. Thus, I am thinking Frank is Louise and Louise may be Frank. 4 Frys just showed up after two years
how long did 2 work in the 75 with other fish I have a similar set up just with one front and some other fish want another front but don’t know if I’ll need to upgrade to quick
I believe that the reason frontosa dont go well with Malawis is because the Malawis stress them because they swim with great speed around them. Frontosa are deep down in the lake where there is much less movement. In my experience they do fine in a tank that has plenty of space and large rocks.
Nice species profile got to love Frontas mine are are gentle giants.
hello .. may I ask what kind of granules do you use to feed frontos? Thank you.
Great vid I have 2 Frontosa about 3 inches each, great fish very gentle too. my question ...do you fast your cichlids at least once a week? is it necessary.
How many can be safely kept in a 75 gallon tank? How long before they outgrow it? Can they be kept with a Rhino plecostomus?
Would they get bloated because of the floating pellets?
Oh yeah. I love your videos. I have also ordered breeding groups from you. But most of the fish on your website are out of stock
Great video.. I can see the fish you're talking about , only a tiny suggestion, more video of smaller size and maybe the breeding
But that's just being picky
Frontosa tip never feed floating pellets
I just got 2 of these at my local aquarium store, the guy running it sells it for 1 dollar basically
I have seen on more then one site that feeding fronts bloodworms can cause them to get inflamed bowels. What is your take on this????
I am not expert but yes bloodworms can cause bloating and other bowel issues. Its best to feed all cichlids the food made for them from reputable manufacturers like hikari
I had one with my Oscar got them both as babies Oscar grew so fast but they loved each other
I have a 140 gal with an oscar, flagtail prochilodus, and a frontosa. Abd they get along great and are all happy
@KGTropicals great video thanks mate . The Moba or kitumba?? At the start of the video looks like he has a dislocated jaw , sorry to be negative it's just hard for me to ignore . Thanks again for the videos I wish I had this info when I started keeping frontosa about 10 yrs ago .
Great video on a cool fish. When do we get another Podcast?
love your channel
please add more species profile.. there are so many african cichlids and so little information about a lot. would really be interesting ..thanks
Hi John I love my fronnies thanks
Good info and video John on a great fish ! 😀
Now john that is what i'm talking about.....awesome video!
I’m excited I just ordered 4 malawi trouts, a frontosa, taeniolethrinops praeorbitalis, and a champsochromis caeruleus .. already have a pleco and 3 decent size clown loaches holding down the fortress for the real kings to arrive 😅🤷🏼♂️🐠🐟🙏🏼👀🤭👑👑
Edit; ordered them all at 2”s so they can grow up with eachother and hopefully be good friends I need a buddy for the frontosa if he’s an ass hole I’ll get ride of him sadly lol
2020 represent
2021 bro
2022 represent
Yay I have exactly 75 gallon!
Do a video on Butterkoferi if possible please & thanks!!
My frontosa and I survived 2020!
👍💕🎉🎉🎉
I really want one, will I have a 55g with 10 mbuna and a albino bristlenose, do u guys think I'll be able to get away with keeping one?
I was wondering How many Frontosa to peacocks and haps in a 75 gallon?
Which Frontosa’s are the brightest blue?
Thanks for the informative video! Everyone keeps saying "species only" for Fronts! I want mostly Frint and a few other Tangs! P.S I love to 1990's sitcom intro! Lol
I apologize about asking this here but I simply cannot find an answer. I have a 10gal tank with a sand substrate. I'd like to add plants and start learning how to aquascape. Do I need to add plant substrate and could I just mix the two? I'd appreciate any other tips you have. I have two ghost shrimp, an albino cory cat and five zebra danios. Again, I'm sorry about asking here but I can't find an answer. Thanks!
I have all my planted tanks with just sand as the substrate so no need to add planted substrate if your tank has been up and going
Hi John. Where is the podcast facility on the new website? I can't find the facility to listen to it on the new website.
Robert McGowan We're having some difficulties with the website at the moment, if you head to tanktalk.libsyn.com you'll find all of the episodes:-)
Ok thanks :-)
I like the black widows!
I like pure strains!
dude your simply awesome...... n specially your cichlids.... love em all ...
great info! thanks for the video!
I love Gibberosa! Hey, is that Tobias at 2 minutes?
I have a question I have 2 Doviis, 1 jaguar, and 1 green terror. Do you guys think I will have to split them up by the team they get older?
As long ur fish have their own spot in the tank.
On 2.20- Tobias Schmidt?)
A frontosa tank wud b a great project 2 set up 4 u John
can you have frontosas with mbuna? or zebra ciclids?
Neptunodestroyer I did for several years and had no problem
Can u sell them if they get to big for your tank since there more looked for in a bigger size ?
Cant*
Hey I was wondering if I could keep mbuna (yellow lab, m. auratus, p. acei with frontosas
I wouldn't put any kind of mbunas with Frontosa's . auratus are very aggressive and will kill them eventually
How many can you keep in a 120
5
Can I kept this with a blue dolphin cichlid
Do you guys sell fish ?
American veija would it be a good tank mate
will they coexist with severums and acaras?
sometimes
I have a school of fully grown large Albino and Green Tiger Barbs in with my Frontosa, an Electric Blue Acara and one Electric Blue Jack Dempsey. The Frontosa completely ignore the Barbs which give the best schooling action which I wanted to the tank. Every now and then they will run the Acara out of a good cave spot is all I have ever seen them do. The EBJD pretty much keeps to himself as well except every now and then having to run someone off that got to close to his cave:P Love your videos KG and recently am treating my other EBJD for an internal parasite the way you showed in one of your videos with some success thx for doing all of this:P
Can’t wait till your on sunday
They can hold up to 6 weeks?! That I didn't know.
did my homework on frontosas before getting one.. no matter what I do I can't keep one alive for more than 24hrs... my water parameters were spot on.. what could the problem be????????
you need to seek out ricky who breeds tons of frontosas, sub him. he will answer all your questions.
+1deaver ricky kenerly cichlids
Dude... That was a great video.
How many in a 75 gallon tho? Nice video!
Micarmn probably 1, I keep my big frontosa in a 106 gallon Aquariam.
Lol no fish sticks... Love it
My local fish store sells them for $10 at 2 inches
kiwibaitnz really? My local fish store sells them at 2 inches for 4.99 or cheaper
what variant? because I guarantee its more than likely a Burundi at that price
Thats a really good deal at my store its $20 dollers for a 1inch one
Probably Burundi's price; even the Zaire Blue CB is not cheap
Can someone explain to me how so many people keep these with South Americans
i have problem on my mixed tank when the peacocks are just finished all the food before my frontosas even able to eat, how to deal with this problem?
If your feeding pellets make sure they're sinking pellets or there are videos out there on how to make homemade food with few ingredients to make food sink
@@DanielSanchez-nu3xp my fish are already dead 👍
Do a video on flower horns 👍
Thank u very much for great info. Could u please explain all different type of Frontosa, like which is better n beautiful than other, specially for breeding. Thanks in advance,
Thanks
Can they live with Asian arowana
Livingstonii please!!
5 to 7 inches to breed,
is 6.5 alright? 😆😆
I love my mobas:)
Can a frontosa live in brackish water???
I'm wondering cause I have Africa cichlids and their bigger or can I just put them in the 10 gallon only 2 now but sense growing slowly don't want them killed by others
Danielle Cloutier I wouldn't keep them in a 10 gallon. That would only slow their growing even more and they would be very unhappy. A 10 gallon tank is very unstable chemistry wise. They come from big lakes, which have stable water conditions. If you keep them in there, be prepared to risk your money.
Nice vid bro:))
They can jump really high beware when cleaning
I have three frontosa in a 55gallon there stil only one inch each will I have to up grade later still
I have clown loaches and a plako and a ink fin call he's with my 8 frantosas
I keep mine in 7,2ph and they breed.
More people watch my other videos instead of my videos on my Frontosas. I am a breeder of the Burundi Frontosas and hope this video will spark more interest in the Frontosa Cichlids!
I first thought all fronts were the same. Lmao. If I had a bigger tank, I'd get some off ya.
I am going to research shipping soon! Maybe by the time I figure everything out I will be able to send you some!
You are one of my biggest Frontosa Fans! I think BIG SLICE CICHILDS BX and dogglet1234 are my runner ups!
Ricky is the boss of frontosa..he should be releasing this vid
TY RICKY,, I REALLY DO ENJOY WATCH ALL UR VIDEO'S BUT DEM FRONTOSA VIDEO'S, , NOW U ALREADY NOE MY FRONTOSA BROTHER,, AGAIN I LIKE MY AFRICAN CICHLIDS,, BUT LOVING MY FRONTS THANKX 2 U 4 REALLY OPENING UP MY EYES WIT DEM FRONTOSAS, ,,
wheres lisa? we need more vids from lisa
can we keep them with oscar fish ?
lake victoria is the largest FYI
Looks like I found the perfect fish for me that doesn't spawn fast😂
I couldn’t disagree with you more when it comes to putting these guys with peacocks and haps. These are a much slower, much calmer fish with a much slower water flow requirmemt. A frontosa may survive In a Malawi tank, but will not thrive well, resulting in stress and a shorter life span then if you kept them as they should be..... but hey these are just fish we’re talking about here (sarcastically speaking)
Frontosas are common but the electric yellows are WAY too common
I have 55g with 8 frontosas they're fine.
ELCARLOS H you should defiantly upgrade soon after they reach 6 inches. At least a 105+ gallon wide Aquariam
I subscribed to you!
2:31 "That's what she said"
Haha so funny 🤨
wishlist= frontosa lol
Mine are kept in acidic water with Indian almond leaves added
Sir frontosa fish stay with green terror, firemouth and sevram fish
Wouldn't recommend it
That's not a great idea although realistically it might work. You would be mixing fish from different parts of the world. Your current fish are from South America BTW
Can these fish be in the same tank with an Oscar?
NO! ! NEVER
mine are coexisting perfectly
+King Dizzy trust me bro these are really slow growers unless you get an adult an Oscar will quickly outgrow it and will enjoy a delicious expensive meal Damn it....Oscars are too aggressive got these frontosa
that answer is NO!! Oscar's will not be a good tank mate at all. I had one with my frontosa's and they locked lips a lot to a point where the Oscar was beat my frontosa's up so that's how I know.
Raj Singh they are both full grown adults
Fishsticks ahahahaha
