Planning on going to Kauai for the first time in November for our 10th anniversary, and this is the one difficult thing I want to do. I appreciated the longer look at what the hike is like at each step. Can't wait!
Now this made me chuckle, Joshua! I'm going to talk to CaliKim right now about that raise! Thank you so much for the compliment as I had a lot of inspiration and viewer aspirations for this video project! CameraGuy
Brought back great memories of taking that hike 30 years ago. Video was beautifully done. Well worth the hike to reach the falls. Thanks for the video.
Just a quick Hello! from Berlin! Thanks for these amazing views which I'll take with me now when I go to sleep. Just wanted to let you know that your videos are also being very much appreciated on the other side of the world.... where the summer didn't do us many favors up here in the north so I wasn't able to harvest any tomatos on my balcony. Envy you for your nice Californian climate. Take care!
It's comments like these that inspire us to keep going!! So...we will!!! Please come back and watch this video as often as you need to! We put a lot of sweat and aches into this one!!! HA HAHA CameraGuy
Absolutely beautiful and very strenuous. I could never make it at my age so thank you guys for sharing the beauty of the islands. Will pass on to my Facebook friends
So glad you enjoyed it, Jim. That feedback really inspires us to keep on bringing you all along on other things besides gardening that shape us! Thank you again - CameraGuy
I watch your video before i go to Kalalau trail and it realy help me to find if i am able to do it! I went there january 2018 and this is the best trip of my life! The vidéo is professionnal , thank you . sorry for my poor english my first language is french :)
Maryse, this is CameraGuy - thank you so much for this comment. I have always hoped it would help someone in the very way that you describe (your English is fine by the way). How far did you go? Up to the falls ? Further down the trail after the 2 mi. junction? Thanks again for watching and sharing this comment!! CG
i went to the hanakapi`ai falls and go back. it took me 6 hrs i was exausted but so happy to make it ! i love Hawaii . the beaches and montains are wonderfull! thank you for your answer!
Hi Joanne - if you can get there someday, I highly recommend this hike - every step is worth that first glimpse of the incredible waterfall. Thanks for watching!
This video got me reminiscing about the time I hiked the same path you guys took. Love the view. The waterfall was worth the hike. For people who haven’t been to this trail, please bring lots of water. I say at least 3 liters because there is no running water unless you have a water filter with you.
Hello Murdoc - glad you were able to experience this amazing hike as well! It is an epic hike, we actually did it twice while we were there. The second time we hiked as far as to the beach only, but enjoyed it just as much. Lots of water is great advice, especially in the summer heat. Thanks for watching!
Wow I can't believe you wore your phone on your arm like that. I would be so afade I would fall and break it. Thank so much for sharing this video! Those views are amazing!!! Lol now 4 miles back I think that was quite a hike.
Thank you for your video. We were there about 2 weeks ago and did not make it to the waterfall. It was a rainy day and the trail was slippery and they were expecting flooding. We went close to 2 miles. We are newbies. At least I know what to expect next time. The vistas were beautiful and I’m glad we got to see them!
We've never been to Hawaii, but the beauty of it that was shared in your video makes us want to go. Sometimes challenging times lead to great rewards:), Hiking the rocky, hilly trail, to find the beautiful falls! Take care, look forward to seeing more garden videos soon. Blessings!
Won't be able to do this hike on our trip next week as the road in is now blocked due to the recent flooding, so this video will have to do. Thanks for posting. Peace to all those in Kauai affected.
Wow it's so awesome how you posted this video and just yesterday I was saying how I would love to go to Hawaii it's more beautiful than i thought thank you thank you and God bless 😇😘
My dream is to go to Hawaii. For many years I have pined for a trip. So I have to thank you so very much for sharing some of your Hawaii adventure. Watching your joy and the incredible beauty has lifted my spirits and made me sure I will go some day.Thank you!
Val this comment means so much to us! And, I am very glad to hear this was inspiring for you!! Please refer back to this video anytime you need to "escape" to this incredible place. Thank you again - CameraGuy
Amazing you guys!!! Thanks so much for taking us alongside and doing all the hard hiking :) Watched it on the big screen and it was simply breathtaking!!! CG, when we getting a feature length video from you, bet it would be amazing!!!
Hello Jennifer - so glad you enjoyed it - we really wanted to show how incredible beautiful it is. The video doesn't even do it justice! Thanks for watching!
Yes I did. It's the most beautiful island in Hawai'i, but a bit too slow pace for me which was why I picked Maui to live. Vacationing is one thing, living there is another. There's so much to do on Kaua'i, and so much to see though. Great honeymoon island for sure. 😀
I can’t believe I missed this video. I was trying to remember when you had come to Hawaii and found this. I absolutely love the NaPali Coast. I have hiked the trail to Hanakapiai, and loved it. However, I have kayaked to Kalalau Beach 20 times. It is my favorite vacation spot. You would love it!
Callie Kim awesome video beautiful views the waterfall amazing. me I'm still working on that compost pile maybe I just need some Hands-On training LOL okie dokie let me get back to packing Irma's posed to be here Monday 12 and my prayers go out to the Floridians and Georgia me and Carolina we are bracing for it all right, keep up the good videos and you are awesome to take care
kim what a bountiful place its just breath taking I can really see how it would wear you out I would do ok until I got to the half way point and then you would have to carry me the rest of the way well I hope you had a wonderfull time
Thanks for sharing! Well done! My Family, wife and 2 kids, ages 12 and 15 did this hike in 2002, but have not been back since. I understand they are building a walking bridge over the Hanakappi'ai Creek now and you also did not mention that you need to get a permit just to reach the trailhead ahead of time now!
I made that hike in 1995. It was absolutely amazing!!! Way less traffic back then. Tried to make the hike again in 2015 but trail was closed due to hurricanes dropping so much rain. Talked the Park Ranger into letting us climb to the hat graveyard and back down. Going back this December, fingers crossed I will be able to make it back to the falls!!
Love doing this hike every time we are out in Kauai! Note for anyone going out (sorry if I missed this in the video) but on the Hanakapiai falls trail keep on the lookout for any pink ribbons or hazardous crossing signs! Sometimes it's easy to get lost or go down a short path to a dead end. So anytime you see pink ribbons you're on the right path!
Aloha! My husband is from Kauai, and he’s planning on taking me on that hike to the Hanakapiai Falls. I watched your video and I’m even more excited to go! The flower you mentioned as a plumeria is actually a white ginger!
Hello Sam, it's our favorite island so far! If you've never done this hike, I highly recommend it. The waterfall is simply incredible, worth every step! Have a great trip!
CaliKim, beautiful Trip! Thanks for sharing! What kind of wristband are you wearing? That is such an awesome idea for your phone...especially when gardening! I keep mine in my bucket or other places and I always loose it.
Oh so beautiful. Merely view ing it through your camera l ens , I felt as exhilarated as you both did. Wow gosh. Thanks for sharing.I hope you've rested from the hike.
This is very encouraging to me (CameraGuy here) as I wanted it it be filmed beautifully and inspirationally (?), for the viewers. Your comment is very encouraging! CameraGuy
Great video.. but the flower you were smelling is ginger. It grows wild, I'm not sure if you can eat the bulb root, but it is beautiful... a perfect delicate flower, sweet scented, and used for leis! What a great way to take a break and smell the flowers!
Do they have an elevator?? For the elderly haha !? We seen a lot of falls in Oregon and of course Niagara and never had to hike that rough but if your still up to it ,, well worth it ...thanks for letting us go with you guys .
Hi. Lovely video. How are the first 2 miles of the hike ? I’m going in November with my parents of 65 and 70 years of age. Is it worth going to falls or just first 2 miles and back ?

Hi guys! I would be going crazy trying to collect seeds and cuttings..haha....super cool☺
Sue Bar me too! I'm surprised she didn't seem that interested in the plants
If the thousand of visitors collected seeds and cuttings, it would cause the biodiversity of plants and animals to be destroyed.
Not respectful to cut plants, but if guava fruits fall on you, its ok.
Awww I've been there! So fun- take me back!!
Vanessa - how cool - did you just love that hike? It was the highlight of our trip. Glad it took you back to some fun memories!
Hei sweet channel ☺ Keep it up!
Great video..
but the flower you were smelling is ginger. It grows wild, I'm not sure if you can eat the bulb root, but it is beautiful... a perfect delicate flower, sweet scented, and used for leis! What a great way to take a break and smell the flowers!
Dang Kim didn't even break a sweat! 🤼♀️
Oh, I was sweating, it was warm and super humid. I don't think we dried off at all the entire trip! Thanks for watching!
Do they have an elevator?? For the elderly haha !? We seen a lot of falls in Oregon and of course Niagara and never had to hike that rough but if your still up to it ,, well worth it ...thanks for letting us go with you guys .
This comment was good! Had me laughing. Sorry - didn't see any elevators or escalators.....Thank YOU for coming along - CameraGuy
Hi. Lovely video. How are the first 2 miles of the hike ? I’m going in November with my parents of 65 and 70 years of age. Is it worth going to falls or just first 2 miles and back ?
Awesome, what camera rig did he shoot this with? A gimbal? Nice and steady.
Thanks, LAAF, I really appreciate this! I use the Zhiyun Crane and I shoot with the SONY a6300 . CameraGuy !
CaliKim29 Garden & Home DIY awesome.I have the one for a GoPro which is so-so. Do you shoot all of your videos with the A6300?
haha just thought of this.. Kala Lua as you pronounce it means Money pit in Hawaiian Kalalau on the other hand can be translated as rich leaf or something to that effect..
awe thanks so much for sharing this. I reshared this on face book. I loved it! I really would love to do this with my family. Do you have any tips and suggestions on how to go about this adventure? you have inspired me. I have a family of seven and most of our vacations are visits to other family we have across the country but I would love to have this experience with them.
Hello Viva - Kauai is gorgeous island - it's quite expensive, but can be done on a budget if you do your research. I used an app called Hopper to find the cheapest airfares. AirB&B has some budget friendly condos , you can even camp in some areas if you want to go really budget. Food is quite expensive, but we found Walmart, and there is a Costco, that helps beat the high restaurant prices. Hope you get to visit someday and do this epic hike with your family - thanks for watching!
CaliKim29 Garden & Home DIY thanks so much If I get to I will share it with you!. Love your channel and all your advice!
Mahalo for sharing, expensive state to live!
You are welcome. Yes, we did find Kauai the most expensive state to visit also. We were so pumped when we found Walmart, helped us stick to our food budget for the trip. Thanks for watching!
hehehe hadda laugh sister... nobody clobbers the Hawaiian language quite like you do... but I'm glad you got to go see this place... yer plumaria was actually ginger . Aloha Kim !
WELCOME HOME the Islands ALWAYS brings one back .......... ;)
Girl that's not plumeria, ginger and not the edible kind of ginger so don't eat the roots.
Hello gizmohawaii - so true - the islands are magical, which one are you from? Thanks for the correction, looked like plumeria to me - I"ll be sure not to eat the roots, ha, ha! Appreciate you stopping by!

A nail biter! Im a chicken, but it was breathtaking!
It was pretty steep in spots, for sure! Those rocks at the end were the toughest part - but the glimpse of that waterfall made every step worth it. Thanks so much for watching!
She should really learn to pronounce the Hawaiian names of the trail, the beaches, etc. Great job filming!
☺😊👍👌💐💐💐💐💐
Milind Mali are you a north indian or south Indian, ?
Kalalau, not kalalua...your welcome
Hey Calikim, that's NOT plumeria flower you so dramatically smelled.
It is Hawaiian yellow ginger.
☹️
Learn how to say the correct names!
I did the Hanakapi"ai Beach trail in 1980. I hardy remember the steep parts but I remember almost losing my camera gear with a big wave. Loved Kauai-very few people then. Camped at Ke-e Beach.
