Actually, these are not lasorda's Dodgers - they got a lot better when they effectively took lasorda out of the player decision making loop. I don't doubt lasorda's passion and dedication but he had the benefit of a great General Manager who stocked the Dodgers with some of the best players available at the time. During lasorda's tenure, the dodgers were always near the bottom of the team defense statistics and lasorda did nothing bet slap the back of the guy who made the error or the bone headed play, laugh and smile. He apparently seldom if ever, disciplined a player. "let's be friends = egbok. Gotta throw the BS flag. Good at getting the boys on the bus on time but not a bonified Hall of Fame Manager.
When I heard about Tommy Lasorda's "Graduation From Mortality", I decided to watch again Game Six of the 1981 World Series as well as Bob Costas' Special Look of the 1988 World Series. It brought back happy memories. Now he has moved on to a better place. Thanks for the memories, Tommy.
Not a great tactician? Yeah... Look at what he did in the 1988 World Series, the number of hit and runs, the pitching moves... Tommy was underrated as a manager. His performance was surreal...
He was indeed great and generally strategically strong but he had a few moments (like everyone). Not walking Clark in '85.. Not bringing in a lefty enough against Reggie.. there was a curious rotation set up in one of his WS('77 or '78) but I don't remember at the moment.
It is like losing your grandfather R.I.P. Tommy I remember going to my first Dodgers game with my father and grandfather in the 1970's Dodgers baseball will never be the same for this Dodgers fan of 52 years. 👮♂️
Growing up in northern California, my entire family were Giants fans. So I chose the enemy Dodgers as my team. Lasorda RIP, Garvey et al. Great memories!
Love his argument with umpire in World Series vs. Yankees when Reggie Jackson stuck out hip to deflect throw, Umpires missed that one, would have been overturned on replay if it happened today (** if it was reviewable?**)
What about that play at home plate where Munson made the tag on Garvey, and he was called out? That would have been under review too, and they might have changed it to safe. I have to look at it again, because it looked like Garvey was safe.
I love sports, especially baseball, but we put too much emphasis on it. It is important, it has its place, but we have literally, in the past fifty years+, turned sports into a religion. And sports has been used and exploited to be a national and cultural distraction, which has taken our minds, attention, away from much more important issues and values. Most of these sports figures are compensated with huge salaries and opportunities that most citizens, just as hardworking, have little or no chance for. We have been placing too much emphasis on the wrong things in modern American life. And it is beginning to show very severely.
It's like losing your favorite uncle. He was one of the greatest.
RIP Tommy! You are now with the Big Dodger in the Sky! Thanks for the great memories! Hope Garvey joins you in the Hall of Fame some day soon.
Rest In Peace, Tommy Lasorda. You were the best and will always be remembered.
Put Steve Garvey in the HOF.

From one class act to another. God bless you, Tommy and God bless the Dodgers.
Garveys illegitimate children and multiple ex wives may disagree with the phrase ‘class act’
Tommy got to see his Dodgers win the World Series! Rest peacefully Thomas Charles Lasorda!

Steve Garvey was at the 1988 World Series where Kirk Gibson hit that glorious home run. He was in the blue cheap seats with the fans.
