I smoked weed with H.R. in Chapel Hill back in 1989 or '90. I can't remember the specifics, I was smoking weed, I just remember being at a punk show after party (I think the Sex Police or Superchunk was playing the Cradle) at a house in Chapel Hill and one of my friends introduced me to H.R. and we all smoked a joint together. Good times!
Stop trying to figure this dude out! He just radically different type of guy. He's on a whole nother level if their is someone out there that is punk it's this man
@NYHC1000 Lay off his case the guys got a point. Don't analyse people just enjoy them for who they are. And I think alot of people can agree he is a punk legend.
And honestly I don’t know what any of y’all are talking about, this is a completely rational conversation, and the guy interviewing him who’s probably some “mindless drone” or something to y’all is clearly a huge fan, he just actually cared enough to take the steps in life to interview his heroes
I love HR It's just that it sad that that the Brains cannot go on with him. He's has gone over the mountain from being a born again Christian. He out grew the Brains in his own way and no matter what people think I hope he is at peace in life.
MT Rich Unfortunately he suffers from a medical condition called SUNCT. It causes chronic headaches and there's no known treatment. It's also referred to as Suicide Syndrome.
yeah he's supposed to go through surgery one of these days his wife told me she's going to give everyone updates on his Facebook but I don't have Facebook lol
Mid 90’s this dude was hanging out in Carlsbad Ca. at the “ house of sin “ apparently he had a serious substance abuse problem and out of the blue freaked out and started shouting I’m not a Nword and storms out . Everyone looking around trying to figure out what had happened…ice ice baby
My absolutely favorite punk band of all time. Lyrics, amazing quickness, and black power with political RAAARRR!!! THE 80'S ROCKED MY SOUL,MY HEART and MY MIND. THANK YOU H.R. YOU ARE LOVED BY AN SF, CA POST PUNK WOMAN (SCHOOL GIRL,COLLEGE GRAD IN THE 80'S. YOU SAVED ME FROM DRUGS. THANK YOU, I LOVE. YOU ALL .
HR is out there, but Goddamn I love the Bad Brains. I'm 48, been listening to them since I was in my teenz. I worked at several mental hospitals in the past and HR sure looks like he has Schizophrenia. You can see it in his body language, what he's wearing, what he says, everything. The drugs used to treat it are very nasty as well and could produce behavior like this. Maybe smoking tons of weed from a young age IS bad, especially in those with a predisposition to mental illness.
Shouldn't that be what his music and his baccflips are all about tho? I mean if he was crazy he can channel all the crazy in singing and performing. Your the one that knows about that stuff, im ignorant to it all but music is a great outlet
***** That part sounds correct. It's actually completing a doctorate in a complex subject that I find hard to believe. Mainly because he's been with the Brains since he was pretty young, I don't see where he had a spare 8 years to complete a doctorate. If you have a link to confirm this I'd like to see it. But hey, I hope he did earn a degree from a good school. You seem to take issue with me insinuating HR might be schizophrenic. I'm hardly the first one to say it. I suggest you watch some of the vids where he stands on stage and refuses to sing and just says weird stuff. It doesn't look like hes all there. But he's still a hero to me, a legendary figure in Punk.
OH MY GOD!!!!!!! HR is such a legend!!!!!! I have listened to the Bad Brains for over TEN years, but this is the first time Ive ever actually heard him talk!! Such a cool guy. Good looking son of a gun too! Man this is cool, thank you.
just watched a bad brains doc on hulu and it was good but I couldn't imagine paying money to see them play and have H.R wear a motorcycle helmet and not sing on a tour a few years ago ,,wish I could of seen them in there prime
He was absolutely amazing live on solo tour. He knew something was wrong and his brain tumor was removed. Now he wears a beautiful crown/cap made by my Armenian Priest's son. #Jangala
I saw the original line up when they reformed in 2000 or 2001. We had to park several blocks away because of some dumb reason I don't recall. We were about 2 blocks from the venue and about a block and a half from their bus when their bus doors opened. You could smell the ganja from a block and a half away. Lol. It was a phenomenal show. I felt like I was a 16 year old kid again.
if it weren't for krishna , Rasta and others religious beliefs none of these people would even be alive today! This band was 1 greatest bands to survive the punk HC scenes the drugs on the 70/80's took a big toll on rocknroll! add black to that and you might see my point !
I saw a Kickstarter for HR made by his girlfriend saying he has medical issues and very bad headaches to the point where he wakes up crying in the middle of the night ...they achieved the goal! I hope he gets his surgery that is needed ...I met HR in ft lauderdale last time bad Brains toured back around 2012
Crazycarls adventures I met his doctors sister at a festival, and she talked to me cause I had my bad brains roir shirt on, and she told me about his condition at the time. i had no idea until then
I spoke with the father of Eddie he's on the affordable care act , his Dr knows what's up and said it's called JFA ... but look on the Brightside at least he's not a victim in pain . You are aware - these are Coptic times . It's amazing how many people say they were at H.C shows - Most of us were outsiders but felt among family at the matinees. When I see something about the old scene some of the responses seem out of step .
Mental? hell no!! H.R . is witty, entertaining, articulate and holy. If you don't have a high enough intelligence level to enjoy sarcasm as an art form maybe we are all crazy.
" me and R.Kelly went to superhero school together and he gave me a cookie" it's sad to admit but he's fried. still one of the greatest when he was young
1:14 he pretty much just verbalized every major black celebrity who’s experienced tragedy or an exposé (or both) in the last decade or so since this came out…
big up's to hr and the bad brains. the band changed my life. they are kings and to this day fucking kill it on stage. super nice fellas as well and are humble as fuck. cheers.
Why the fuck, of all the fuckin' interviews, has nobody ever called him out on the missing gap? Like, "HR, dude, you get dentures?", or "Are you really HR? 'Cause I ain't seein' the gap in yo teeth!". I saw them in St Pete once and I was like, "that don't sound like HR." and my buddy was like, "it ain't, bruh. look at his teeth." And it was some other dude filling in for HR.
H.R. Is going to make it and he seems normal to me. I mean wtf is normal anyways. I read a few comments below and people saying that he can't go on bc born again Christian and he is so blown away by drugs etc that's all loser talk. This guy is just a great lead singer for one of the best bands of all time & they will make it it through with that PMA! Weed, crank , pain killers, headaches, alcohol, mushrooms, acid etc this is sometimes acid rock not just punk rock , reggae , funk metal etc. bad brains still the best punk rock band all of the original members have that PMA and should be okay! Pray for them!
I smoked weed with H.R. in Chapel Hill back in 1989 or '90. My 15 year old son is moderately autistic. That Carpenters song is one of his favorites. He just heard HR and ran in with a smile on his face.
i LOVE H.R. i know he's really not all there upstairs but.....he's a living legend and i cant help but respect the man.....PMA FOR LIFE!!!!
BAD BRAINS in their prime would BLOW any band off the stage !!!!
Easily!
I was just humming "We've Got That Attitude." So catchy.
+Flipper1974nz . The Bad Brains were always in a league of their own .Untouchables !!! PMA always
Their CBGB concert will never get boring
yup! BB's at CBGB's '82! Cheak the vid!
Exactly 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
HR and skateboarder Mark Gonzales would have the most amazing conversation ever..
+nitrixgtliphone If I could sit in on that conversation I'd probably feel like I was tripping.
nitrixgtliphone the gonz is out there but not like HR. mark just acts up for the camera or his friends but hes a lot more mellow
Oh shit, I forgot about that guy. Haha.
Gonz is an act. He's a ham.
.......mind.....blown
"While I was away tending on to some responsibilities to the government". Epic.
+Cliff Trainor so epic
He recorded the vocals on the pay phone in Lorton Prison in Lorton, Va which was a DC overflow prison.
I used to call community service. "The govt. contract".
I'd rather him lose his mind than lose his soul
Damn
Jah Bless
As long as he's happy, and taken care of
He lost his brain tumor. He is fine .
HR4LIFE
And honestly I don’t know what any of y’all are talking about, this is a completely rational conversation, and the guy interviewing him who’s probably some “mindless drone” or something to y’all is clearly a huge fan, he just actually cared enough to take the steps in life to interview his heroes

Heaven is full he'll have to go the other way!
He's the Lee Scratch Perry of hardcore punk
Or the Syd Barrate
Recognised something in his demeanour but Was struggling to pin it down.lsp is perfect comparison
so true
perfect
R.I.P. UPSETTER.
H.R is a true legend . bad brains is the best punk band of all time without a doubt
I’m digging the camo jacket over suit & tie look
Field jacket m65
Mid 90’s this dude was hanging out in Carlsbad Ca. at the “ house of sin “ apparently he had a serious substance abuse problem and out of the blue freaked out and started shouting I’m not a Nword and storms out . Everyone looking around trying to figure out what had happened…ice ice baby
HR has been in my life for 30 years! I wouldn't know what to do without him :-)
My absolutely favorite punk band of all time.
YOU ALL .
HR is a gift. Cherish him.
One of the most badass bands of all time, hands down. No one played faster than them in their prime
Love & salutes to H.R. and blessings for your gift to us all!
Despite everything's not goin so right up in the man's head, but aren't u seeing one of the warmest smiles in the planet?
Joseph, H.R., is an amazingly gifted creator. Thank you for sharing this!🎉
He's so peotic weird and full of love it was a delightful experience thank you!!!!!
i bet him and bizzy bone would make some interesting music
One of the greatest punk bands.....ever. I feel very lucky to have seen them back in the day and love that HR is still his inimitable self.
H.R. is who he is ,if u dont think he is worthy now then ya never should a dug him back when...All the best to you H.R. thanx!!!
HR does have bad brains ironicallyXD
+Salb814 There's nothing bad about his brain, he's different and on another level. At least he looks happy!
HR is out there, but Goddamn I love the Bad Brains. I'm 48, been listening to them since I was in my teenz. i think hes just a happy guy
Shouldn't that be what his music and his baccflips are all about tho? I mean if he was crazy he can channel all the crazy in singing and performing. Your the one that knows about that stuff, im ignorant to it all but music is a great outlet
Marijuana can be a catalyst for Schizophrenia. I'm a psychology major and yeah, Marijuana at an early age can increase chance of being schizophrenic.
***** ??? First I've heard that, and I don't believe it.
***** That part sounds correct. It's actually completing a doctorate in a complex subject that I find hard to believe. We've got that PMA
This is old, I seen a recent interview and he’s mad different now..super chill, not so wacky. He was always cool af I don’t care
It really doesn't matter where this guys head is. Show some respect to the legend
just watched a bad brains doc on hulu and it was good but I couldn't imagine paying money to see them play and have H.R wear a motorcycle helmet and not sing on a tour a few years ago ,,wish I could of seen them in there prime
He was absolutely amazing live on solo tour.

Reading John Joseph's book Evolution of a Cro-Magnon so had to check out more about HR :-)
if it weren't for krishna , Rasta
and others religious beliefs
none of these people would even be alive today!
This band was 1 greatest bands to survive the punk HC scenes the drugs on the 70/80's took a big toll on rocknroll!

With obummercare he'll be lucky to get surgery!!!
Bad Brains....the best rock and roll band ever
i just think he got all his anger out when he made banned in dc
HAHAHAHAHAHAH " we went to Super hero school and he gave
me a cookie"
Smoked many a bowl with H.R. and the Bad Brains!!! Stole my weed!!!
Deke Tator 😂
Mental? hell no!! H.R . is witty, entertaining, articulate and holy. If you don't have a high enough intelligence level to enjoy sarcasm as an art form maybe we are all crazy.
My head would explode if R. Kelly covered Bad Brains.
He'd probably love to cover "yout juice" wouldn't he....dutty bugger
Much love respect and appreciation for HR
I feel like this was 100% unadulterated sarcasm on HR's part.
+Blake Watson from start to finish!
In his own way he made a lot of sense
the pic identifying this video is Darryl, not HR.. 9 years later! greetings somebody
Dis dood so damn chill cuz he got out all his anger in his youth
I wish every band was/is as good as Bad Brains.
lost his mind? more like just quirky chill...
" me and R.Kelly went to superhero school together and he gave me a cookie"
it's sad to admit but he's fried. still one of the greatest when he was young
He seemed moderatly quirky here, he's been different in the past. Maybe he got some support he needed and thats cool.
hr looks so amazing on this interview.
totally ironic how much he changes all the time but love it!
He's such a sweetheart, omg
He seems very eloquent and lucid in this interview..
He is incredible as are bad brains.
It really doesn't get more technically sound than Bad Brains
1:14 he pretty much just verbalized every major black celebrity who’s experienced tragedy or an exposé (or both) in the last decade or so since this came out…
He lost his damn mind.
Alex Malinasky Now he has an bad brain
He's a genius you fool.
Much love HR
Legend!

I like him!!
Legend ! Great interview
Yeah he has lost his mind but geniuses usually are BB forever!!
Anyone know where I can find the gogo music he made before bb?
you ever find it? I'd like to check it out.
Bad B were a jazz band when they were on dope.
This man is a true artist and incredibly intelligent
Why the fuck, of all the fuckin' interviews, has nobody ever called him out on the missing gap? Like, "HR, dude, you get dentures?", or "Are you really HR? 'Cause I ain't seein' the gap in yo teeth!". I saw them in St Pete once and I was like, "that don't sound like HR." and my buddy was like, "it ain't, bruh. look at his teeth." And it was some other dude filling in for HR.
What's so strange about getting his teeth fixed or getting dentures? he's probably lost alot of teeth by now
I just saw the documentary on the band, and it was a group called Big Boys from Texas, not Husker Du...
H.R. Is going to make it and he seems normal to me. I mean wtf is normal anyways. I read a few comments below and people saying that he can't go on bc born again Christian and he is so blown away by drugs etc that's all loser talk. The Cat's Cradle's definitely one of the coolest venues on the planet. I've seen and met so many cool people there.
Hardcore legend....
I think he's wonderful really!

Video title says H.R., shows pic of Darryl.
CRAZY WONDERFUL!
Most people don’t understand geniuses because they aren’t geniuses themselves.
Such a cool guy wow 🖤
H.R is too fucking rad
Bad Brains forever❤
Did he say he went to superstar school with R.Kelly, and that R.Kelly gave him a cookie? Hmmmm......
I think HR needs to step away from the bong. Lol!
Saw them in “86 ❤ get off mah lawn. Yeah they still r t he fuckin best
Because he is a genius who's watch is stuck on 4:20, there's a lot of people talking through H.R. its just apart of his animation.
Damn he talks like Little Richard. LR looks old now, but God bless him and having more wisdom now as a elder man in Christ.
2:17 Has anybody here heard of a Bad Brains record called "Let's Have Fun"?
I love this man. 😄👍
