    We've been using a trolling motor on a canoe for years. It doesn't look impressive but we shure to catch a lot of fish!

    Great, comprehensive video of your setup. Very excellent! My favorite part though? "Is that trash? I need to get that." Good man! We do the same when out in the woods or on the water. Thank you, and congrats on a great system you can only improve on. Well done.

    I had just about the same set-up on our last 3 day canoe trip. With us, I took along a 1 amp solar charger and kept it hooked to the battery and we had a motor all three days!

    There are alot of diy ideas on you tube in how to build your own canoe trolling motor mount, which seem decent and simple enough, but I was wondering is there a specific reason as to why they are all made to mount off the side of the canoe rather than straight out the back of the canoe? Just easier to build or something to do with performance or something?
    Thanks

    As stated guy. fix those clips and protect them. I used plastic electrical boxes from menards to make waterproof connections inside. I worked on cars and had a battery explode because of arcing......It will blow a hole in the boat and cover you in acid and sink you...They sound like a shotgun and plastic will go in you. I'm not a safety guru but happy fishing guy.

    Nice set up, I agree electrical needs to be looked at, don't want it to ground out. Would like to see your mount set up for your trolling motor. Cheers

    Like the way you have it setup, Now to rig it up so that the wires are wired straight to the battery and not using the jumper cables.

    Seeing more and more videos showing the 30lber is the way to go for a canoe. The 40/50s just don’t seem to be worth the extra money and, more importantly, power consumption. I’m not trying to race, I’m trying to get to the fish and still have arms to catch em!

    I have had a host of boats but I love my canoe the best, simple and easy is the idea. you may want to make outriggers for more stability but your right you can get right up next to shore with a canoe. oh and thanks for picking up the lake trash.

    Is the motor you have a "Minn Kota Endura C2 30LB/30-in"?
    I am looking for a motor for my 16' canoe, don't need to go fast, just need it to beat me paddling.
    thanks

    Zach, you should rig up some way to be able to see how much battery life (volts?) left so you don't ever get stranded. I'm sure you can figure out something using low cost parts

      Joe Sarducci yes I would like to, I measured the bolts when I got home, 12.48, now I will check once its fully charged to see how much drain it had

      Zach Jensen that's good once you get to 11.4 it's going down.
      11.8 I mean.

    Super dangerous the way you have connected the trolling motor with the alligator clips on the button of your boat so close together especially with the metal lure laying on them please separate the two alligator clamps somehow you could ruin your trolling motor and your battery. Be careful.

      @ZachJensen  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      zander12kg don't worry, I had my eye on it, I have plans of a better system , but for a temporary fix this worked great!

    Harbor freight had a cheap solar setup, that could make it virtually unlimited battery

  • @kentsmith6304
    @kentsmith6304 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your battery set up may be illegal. It should be in a vented box and secured to the canoe.. The DNR may have issues with it, and possibly fine you.

      Kent Smith its un a wide open space
      it would be like putting it on the ground in the middle of a field.thats how open it is.
      it has less space to breath under the hood of a vehicle.
      mabey he can get dinged with the wiring but after reading to comments he's looking into it.

    Pretty good set up man. but u kinda limit yourself to small low wake body's of water.

    • @ZachJensen
      @ZachJensen  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      nathaniel c that is what I fish smaller lakes 400 to 600 acres

    • @MrNaty25
      @MrNaty25 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ooh okay. Have u ever seen the canoes with the flat backs on them . there pretty neat easy to mount small motors on them.

    • @ZachJensen
      @ZachJensen  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Flat backs are nice, but the side mount is a better fit for controlling the steering

    Get rid of the motor. Use your paddle, good vigorous physical activity, does a body good. Good job picking up the trash.

      It's a lot easier to cast the shoreline while using a trolling motor though.

    • @2high2die
      @2high2die 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i think the point is fishing, not paddling

    • @johnheuy376
      @johnheuy376 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some people like myself have bad shoulders (both) and have a hard time paddling, but still like our canoes! I own 3 and will paddle for a short time only. I also have a 32# 3hp weedless Johnson that I use. It pushes me + 17' Old Town Discovery square stern at 6 mph.

    If you have one of them cell phones, you can down-load and in-stall a speed test app. Boat safe!
