I want wavebreaker to get increased height of consecutive waves, so the first is unchanged but the second is harder to jump over and the third cannot be avoided without a large terrain height difference. This would make placing the special more interesting in evaluating its instant and short term value vs putting it in a safer spot to make it more likely to get off more powerful waves. Playing against it would add more value in targeting and breaking the special, and makes it potentially worth it to deny even if it has already activated once or twice. It wouldn’t be too punishing because it’s only a single wave that would be unavoidable in its AoE and it would be extremely delayed and telegraphed. Curious on other people’s thoughts on this buff I’ve had in mind for a while now!
This would be really nice at incentivizing you to break it even if it already got the first wave off and is gonna get the second one before you can get it down.
I had an idea for something like this but your idea is much better. Wavebreaker still needs to actually live against safe removal to still be GREAT, but this may bump it to being at least the halfway point in the special tier list.
I still remember a match where I fought against 3 custom jrs and a dualie squelcher. If I got that match up again, not only would it be a bullet hell, it would also be hell in general 😅
I would say, ink storm kind of fits into a support and displacement category it already counted as a displacement but now it’s heating properties, kind of put it into a support That’s what I think anyway.
I have noticed when I run Splattershot Jr that extra detection is helping me. Just having a little faster knowing if there's someone sharking or around the corner is still useful. As for rain, next time I play with my friends it will help. I have a friend who's very aggressive with brush, anything that keeps him alive at all is good.
I still think they should’ve made Ink Storm cause more damage the higher you are/the closer are to the actual ink rain cloud. Could be an interesting answer to Inkjet and Booyah Bomb since they make their users propel in the air. They take damage from lack of oxygen lmao.
I miss S2 Tri Nouveau, with Splat Bomb and Storm. When I saw the changes to storm I instantly thought of that weapon and wishing I had access to that kind of frontline storm weapon to try it out.
While I love the inkstorm buff it would have been a lot more interesting on Splatoon 2 kits namely the Splat brella nBallpoint CDS and Zimi I also feel the same way about the Zap damage buff which would have made zap not have to run object shredder in S2 (not that I am saying that would be a good thing but it would make more sense in S2)
On pencil balancing, what do you change? The range? The ink efficiency?. I think changing the range would make the second kit more of an option as it would need it's rain to take more aggressive positions
Wave breaker is made to be like a good info in an instant. I feel like knowing your enemies location is extremely important in battles along with skill so it's alright as a small buff
The ink storm buff is great but it does really fix my biggest gripe with it: it doesmt displace enough. Because it doesnt do a lot of damage, there isnt much motivation to get out of its way unlike other displacers like booyah or wail. Yes if you stand in it for long enough itll kill you, but you only need to dip out for a second. Tbh it just needs a tiny buff to damage imo to lower the kill time slightly
Imagine if the waves from the wave breaker started big needing a full jump but as it reaches its limit the wave gets smaller to around where it is right now
I think the wave buff is stronger then you think here. Before when it would be used as a meat shield it was hard to get value out of that. Now if people want to target the wave breaker as soon as it's dropped down they have to shoot at it while marked, and that's an easy target to take down. I think it can be used the same as before but also be thrown directly into where you want to fight and get huge value from it. It's a much more flexible tool now.
I suspect for the Ink Storm buff they might reduce the timer for not taking damage in the future. I personally would reduce it to half a second but they'll likely reduce it more gradually depending on how the patches go
Another idea for a buff for wave is to have each wave go faster as the special is deployed Ie:First wave goes normal speed and the last wave having double the speed travel to the first one Weird change IK but wave even when you arent looking at it is just time B press for 3 times And this change will force people to deal it with more directly and have more of an impact and give it game changing potential
it seems like no matter what buffs they put in, even really good ones like the special changes, they can just never seem to *actually* make weapons that are struggling better, the good weapons get better, and the weak weapons get marginally less weak
I wish blob‘s projectiles did more damage closer up, and less damage the longer they are active on the field. Kinda like proptosis from binding of Isaac. Maybe at first it’s 1 big bubble that one shots from up close and then it splits smaller and smaller. Weaker from farther away and stronger closer up. It would allow it to fight while also painting from a long distance, with less accidental kills
After this buffs I’m so upset brella didn’t get inkstorm instead of tri-strike like IMAGINE fighting a Brella in a storm with SQUID REGENERATION I think that alone would make Splat Brella really good

I think the most meaningful buff for both specials would be: For wave breaker, make the waves thicker so that you actually have to time it well to avoid it, and there is some challenge. For ink storm, add lightning. I've heard a million players say this, because it's GOOD. Every 2 seconds, a lightning bolt will randomly appear that deals 90 damage for a direct, and 45 for an indirect. This way, walking into the storm as an enemy is a risk. There will be a marker that appears very briefly where the lightning is about to hit.
Im really glad they are getting more creative with buffing specials finally rather than just "Haha let's increase the Radius of X Special by 50% for no reason" buff idea they've been using since launch
Now if only they would fix splashdown. I think they overcompensated for its shortcomings in 2. It’s now a nearly instantaneous triple booyah bomb and there is no reward for being able to shoot it out of the sky, you just die. I think speeding up the original’s activation time or area of effect would have sufficed. It’s almost as bad as missile spamming. I’ve been in games where I’ve seen people just charge splashdown run up and use it then run off to charge it again, over and over. It’s not fun
I think wave breaker could gain a stun effect that isn’t that long maybe like a single second but this could only apply if hit by a wave and maybe there could be more waves and be a bit faster

I thought it’d be cool if it splashed the ink itself. So like the wave that hurts you comes from your ink and not just a line. Then it would have some cool functionality as well as use on moments with paint disparity. Though honestly it’d be a nerf.
I still think wavebreaker's waves should reach the entire circumference from top to bottom, because there's still a lot of weapons where this change doesn't do a whole lot to improve the special and its still a special nobody really wants to see on their next kit. Inkstorm's buff is good but has some unintended negitive side effects. I've noticed that some people with storm now view it as a complete entry tool that they should always run under when its used, which has caused a ton of players to start becoming extremely predictable or using the storm very selfishly..
there are a chouple of changes i would love to make sadly im not good with coding to make them reality.. like my in mind rework of the blob would be 3 projectiles (with unchanged damage) with more projectile speed but less life time (meaning it has less over all range but it should not feel opressive or unfair if a stream of bubbles instantly kill you if you are suck thanks to the blob user)

There isn't a poor quantity of kits with Storm, but rather a poor quality of them. 7 kits is more than most other Specials have (most are on only 5 or 6 kits), but Blob, Swig, and Brush were very mid choices for the Special. I mainly wish they'd given it to VBrella like in S2 or SUnder like in the Direct.
The ink storm buff is cool but unfortunately does absolutely nothing for it. Like you’ll occasionally notice the healing every now and then but that’s really it.
It baffles me that 3 has such garbage maps but such INCREDIBLE new Weapons and Specials, both in casual and competitive design. That Ink Storm buff was such a creative way to improve its flexibility- Octobrush actually LIKES having it now!

The ink storm buff is honestly one of the best buffs they've ever done. It's SO creative and unique, and gives you a whole new way to use the special.

So yeah range blaster and OCTO Brush Noveau are literally top tier tower control weapons in my opinion
