In this episode I explain the many different models of Honda 3 wheelers 200cc class and what makes them different from one another. What choices would you had in late 1983 early 1984 when going to the Honda dealership.

As a Three Wheeler since my 74 US 90, the most excitement among us was the 185S when it came out, then the 200X, 82 250R and the 85 250R. For pure fun I will say the 82 250 was the perfect blend of everything, with the 110's being the best of the rigid trikes for do it all fun!

My dad's first bike was a 1982 Honda 200 ATC. He used it for hunting, ice fishing, farming, and I must've put a million miles on it riding around the driveway. That bike NEVER EVER let us down. Years down the road we sold it and with a bit of money bought the bike he wanted, and it was a 1985 Big Red 250es. It was sad to see the 200 go, but the Big Red sure was a step up for what we needed it for. Great channel by the way, new sub!! You sure are VERY knowledgeable on the Honda bikes, great stuff.

I have an 84 200ES and an 82 200E, the front end on both of them are perfectly fine, no issues whatsoever. I ride them a lot also, the 200ES did snowplow duty for many years, a few years back i bought a new snowblower and last year i traded the cycle country plow for the 200E that i just got done rebuilding. I have seen ones with worn out front ends, its fairly common, but i have seen just as many good front ends. The 200M front ends are not exactly easy to run out and get to swap onto these, the last 200M front end i saw for sale cost more then i paid for the 200ES many years ago, i have had that one for 10+ years. Front end still works great, actually has dampening to it yet. Its kind of a moot point in my opinion, since they are hardtails the front suspension doesn't really do a whole lot, but i like the hardtails. I also have an 81 ATC200 and a 74 ATC90, and a few others float in and out as i work on them.

We had a 1982 185's. Bought brand new. The year the front fork extensions were added to prevent tipping. It was fast. But we made it faster. My dad replaced the damper style sprocket hub with a custom made hub he designed himself to adapt the 200x sprockets. That allowed you to swap to a smaller less tooth count sprocket for speed or a larger more tooth count sprocket for pulling and off roading. The drive sprocket could also be swapped to a smaller less tooth count or larger more tooth count. The taller the tires the higher the speed and vise versa. Couldn't kill it. In the 25 yrs we owned it the only major thing that was ever done to it was a simple re-ring, light hone and new timing chain with a valve adjustment. Indestructible.
If it had the Honda name on it. It meant quality in the 80's. They were built to last. I've ridden just about every make and model honda atc and atv from that era. Great times.

Dang those bring back memories when I was a kid. A friend of mine had a couple 185s and a 200. Im not sure the year but I remember the 200 he rode most and it had the big balloon tires all the way around and no suspension. All my other friends had dirt bikes and whatnot and I always had to ride on the back of that 200 until my 11th b-day my parents bought me a 200X and I fell in love. I suddenly had the best 3 wheeler out of all of them lol. If I remember correctly it had a 5 speed clutch. When I got it it had a rack on the back that I ended up taking off because I did not like the way it looked as well as a dune flag. The headline had a blue cage around it and I remember very well the clutch handle was curved lol. Like someone had dumped it over and bent it perfectly without breaking it. I left it alone because it felt comfortable in my hand that way lol. I did end up having to replace the kick start once. I almost broke my leg when I went to kick it over and idk what happen but it stripped out and my knee extended backwards. Anyway it was an awesome bike. I loved it. Would love to get my hands on another one.

Fantastic information, I'm down to a pair of 200's and a pair of 250's with my dx225. All riders in different conditions and I enjoy every one of them. Speaking as a seat cover guy, take care of your seat foam and keep all the seats covered. Once they start to rot and turn brown, then to powder, they're gone, and good luck finding good replacements. I've paid over $50 just for shipping on one of the seats I needed.

@@mrcbuilds Since the metal seat base for the early 200 e,m, and es rust and are difficult to recover, I try to pick them up as cheap as possible with decent foam and transfer it to a plastic base which is the same shape and easy to cover. The rubber bumpers and latch spring are a bonus. Be careful the latch arms themselves seem to be about a fraction of an inch different on the metal and so be careful and test fit before you cover.

Best option swap the front end from a 200m, atc200 or 200x. You can not rebuild the 200e or 200es front forks, the parts are no longer available plus re chroming the forks would be expensive.

In the us the 200es stopped in 84, if it is a 85 200es it's an European model. Very cool. That is a 1 year only bike. To my knowledge it does not share any differential parts with any other bike.. so the next best option is to make sure it is tuned up. You will need to make motor improvements for more speed. Higher compression piston, header, exhaust, larger carb. That really all you can do. Otherwise I would suggest finding a 250es. It is a larger and faster machine, with most of the same options as your 200es.

Yeah the ATC 90 my grandmother bought me in 1976 was awesome. Every time I let my friends ride it they would wreck it! One time I let my two friends ride it and they went off a 20 ft cliff and bent the front wheel against the motor. They survived luckily! The Honda dealership heated up the forks and been it back out and I was back on the road again!
