My Banshee had bolt ons only. Toomey T5s, sprockets, boost bottle air filter and carb work. I gave a guy on a stroked 250R quad 2 lengths, the break and he was on the asphalt and I was on the side of the road. Easiest $500 I ever made. We started head to head and I kept fendering him. I kept giving him more rope and finally hung himself and I took all his money. He went to our local cycle shop to get more work done to win. The guy who worked on both our bikes said the only way he could beat my machine was to either buy it from me or build another Banshee like it. I ran it at the local dragstrip a few times and got an 8.72 in the 1/8th with it. I still had more power to left to take more of his money. He never would line up beside me anymore though.
Those 250 r's were insane. I rode one that was modded out and set up for flat track back in the 80's. I couldn't stop laughing because I couldn't keep the thing from spinning out every time I accelerated out of a turn. After a few rides it was all fun and big perma-grins.
I wish growing up there was a place like that to ride. That looked like more fun then I ever had in the woods & fields! The closest I’ve ever come to riding even a quarter as fun as that looked is when it would snow bad out at night & we could ride on the highway near my house. No cars or trucks out back in the 90’s when it really snowed around here. Now those days are gone. I can’t even remember the last bad snow storm was in 2011. Back then I had a kfx 450r. But nothing like my old banshee!! even with all the work I had done to it.
I miss Silver lake - used to be able to see the dunes from the upstairs window at my Grandpa's farm just to the S.E when I was a kid . Lots of memories from that part of Mi .
Wow great vid & great spot! Those things rip! Been riding dirt bikes/ATCs/quads since 10 years old - just bought a new RZR this year. Sad to read all the comments about riding spots being shut down. I'm in CA and believe me those evil forces are working against us here. Between the eastern part of my state & Nevada, where I go mostly, theres so much wide open space & endless roads/trails it would seem nearly impossible to close it all off. Well worth spending a little extra time & gas money to get away from the popular spots and off the beaten path.
That old 250/310 still shows it can keep up with the bigger boys. Wickedly fast 35 years ago, and I’ve always enjoyed trikes more than quads. I never bought the talk about them being more dangerous. Get the back end cut loose and they won’t tip any easier than a quad, but both are great fun, versatile while having their limitations. 👍🏼
That single front wheel sucks. The amount of traction you get on turns is trash. You can't always power slide around every turn and if there are ruts and you powerslide, you are going to have a bad time. They were super risky on jumps too. You pretty much had to land rear wheels first in a nice straight position or hold on for dear life. Quads give you a much more stable base and much better traction, as well as much better landing stability for jumps that don't go perfectly. They are also much better at dealing with ruts.
@@gametime2473 it takes skill to ride all ATVs. These ones require the rider to be able to cut the rear wheels loose and drift around corners. They aren’t unsafe, it’s the rider and their lack of skill or the foolish risks taken that were and are the issue.
Oh that was just way cool !!! Had a 350X then a 250R and my buddy had a Banshee and we always dreamed of riding in a place like that instead of our Iowa gravel pits. You guys did a good job of riding too, slowing up when cresting the hills. Good Job ! and Thanks for the memories.

They went for a ride and the Banchee went up for sale next day. Found an 86 TRX 250r and Eddie worked the motor over. Faster than a stock Banchee when he got done yet way more comfortable to ride. The 310 had a power to weight ratio over the 350 making it faster, I've had 4 , all 250R's so I know what I'm talking about. I've rode a banshee before and they are fast for sure but they are also heavy which makes them inferior to the 250R. I beat a banshee on my 84.
Great memories of my bored out 250R. I could almost smell the 2 stroke exhaust through the video. Lol!
I want them both!
Me 2
Those 250 r's were insane.
Wish I had my old 250R 310 bore still. Miss it every time I see a video like this.
I miss Silver lake - used to be able to see the dunes from the upstairs window at my Grandpa's farm just to the S.E when I was a kid . Lots of memories from that part of Mi .
I had a 84 air cooled 250R. Sooo much fun!! And that good ol 2 stroke power!!!
the old days 2 stroke power now those 250r are rear to find in great condition love ridin
Ya, and you can jump without nose diving a tank! 😂😂
Until you ride down a steep, rutted out hill. I had a 200x that nearly killed me on every gnarly downhill.
@@tristanrivers8674not at all. Unexperienced riders are dangerous.
My childhood bike growing up having 250r back in the day it was big thing those days..and I'm sure till now if only now days kids know how powerful those bikes at that time
And forget to say I was only 9 😎
Next best thing to riding it yourself. Thanks for the ride!!
That place is awesome you guys are living my dream
Banshee sounds crisp, clean, strong. That r is old school cool and flat boogies.
Thank you!
Looks an epic playground for ripping around on some beautiful 2stroke machines , wish we had places like that here.
Wholly Molly, that is totally awesome. I had a 250 quad racer back when they first came out in 85 and lived near a sand pit and I drove the tires off, that was a sweet ride and pit back then however it was nothing compared to that monster of a pit in this video.
In 84' I bought a 200X ! It was a blast... especially in the snow 😉 I wish I had waited a year for the 250R !
( That thing is a beast )
Thank you for the great video & old school memories ✌😎
My dad had a ‘87 Banchee and those were built to scream. One day Eddie Sanders (our neighbor) peeked over the fence and asked my dad if he had ever rode a 250r Honda. They went for a ride and the Banchee went up for sale next day. Found an 86 TRX 250r and Eddie worked the motor over. Faster than a stock Banchee when he got done yet way more comfortable to ride. I bought it to ride with my buddies till we all got out of it. Miss that old quad but my bud I sold it to still has it 👍
I’ve had them both but banshee is the love of my life
love the old 2 strokes! aint riden until u fly off atleast once lol
@@gsfbffxpdhhdf7043 the point of this comment means if you like to ride hard, there is a good chance of you falling off, you just don't ride enough lmao
Flex Seal™ no its called talent and skill u dumb fuck. I started on a 250 and went to 500cc at 18 and never looked back.
Gsfbffx Pdhhdf ride some more and it’ll eventually happen. Best riders I’ve ever known have fallen off. Doesn’t take away from your skill or talent
Broke my teeth my thumb my shoulder and my ankle all different times 250ratc for life
1 of my favorite videos I cant wait to buy a ATC 250r . I already have a trx 250r and Banshee ... #braaaaaaap
TAVIS JUDGE did you buy a Atc?
I love watching these types of videos! Two stroke beasts rippin it up 💨💨🤟🤟
Had my 1985 250R for 20 years. Their wasn’t a quad made that could beat it!
Always wanted a atc250r!!! Owned a 200x it was awesome but the 250r was a different kinda awesome!!! Miss those riding days!!!
Thank you for the video. That took me back to the good old days for certain! There is just something so sweet and unique about the sounds of both of those rides. 😮
"I love the smell of two stroke in the morning." I mounted a 1985 CR500 engine in a blaster frame. Crazy fast but was hard to ride due to the horrible suspension of the blaster. Would take off in 2 gear. Very few Banshees could ever take me out the hole but I ran out of gears too soon.
I have an 85 and an 86 250R. Love that 2 stroke howl and the smell of the exhaust. It's even better with race fuel.
Blue banshees are my favorite along with the red and white ones to and the yellow and black anniversary edition banshee. Can’t just like one have to like them all
That banshee sounds so crisp!
So crisp it cant catch a 310 a blows up trying lol
At least the guy knows how to shift.
@ Don Dominy , Only because the rider. The banshee clearly was faster. Every time he got on it he caught right up then let off.
@@briankennedy5578 both are iconic machines but I'd say if it was a head to head its be pretty fair although I think the banshee would probably have it in top end but then again you never know with how people build there banshees nowadays 🤷♂️
It's very obvious the banshee was faster. That guy is scared of it. The guy on the Honda not scared. He stays on it. So the banshee catches right up, then falls back when he let's off. Have them swap riders. Or put me on the banshee. Everyone saying the Honda won...lmmfao
Man that 250r is awesome, I want one so bad. To bad they had to stop making 3 wheelers
That banshee sounds so smooth
The Banshee has to be one of the best sounding two strokes ever.
Hanky Bannist8r No mistaking that two stroke potato potato. No doubt best sounding especially with a beautiful set of toomey t5’s.
Thanks for posting. Love Silver Lake!
Thats a mother beautiful place to ride.
8:37 best part folks, side by side full throttle
Bad Donkey that 250R was handing that Banshee it’s ass.
I'm a Honda cheerleader but.. those banshee run and have a unique sound .. looks like fun..
Bad boy 250r. Loved it. I had 86 myself. God I miss it. !!!!
Reminds me of high school. My buddy had a 250r. Long live the ATC
The most fun for me was in 1967 I bought a Yamaha 100 twin street bike to ride to work.
Not fast but would run 60.
Like ridding on a cloud, no vibration.
Down side was people in n cars running you off the road
As an previous 1985 Honda 250 R owner 👍🏼👍🏼. That thing was fast. I remember smoking dirt bikes on it back in the day.
I've had both of these in my time, fun, badAss machines!
11:36 The ol' is my banshee running on both cylinders check.
James K It’s the scariest thing when you go check and it’s only running on one lol
awesome spot, wish australia had more dunes like this! just looks amazing, and that 250r kills the banshee all day err day ;D
Dean Kestle .... plenty of endlesss dunes like this over here in WA.
@@sueneilson896 Yeah I'm in WA, Lancelin probs the most frequent one I visit but it's never got massive hills to climb
Dean Kestle . We are down south. Big dunes at Meerup and near Bremer Bay. Some nice ones up past Getaldton as well.
Still have my 1985 KXT 250 had a 82R love them both
I was waiting for someone to mention the tecate....great 3wheelers......from Wyoming USA🔫🤠🇺🇸
The 250R was nice it was quick but that writer on the banshee kept letting up, you can see that the banshee was catching up to it like nothing but then he would let up. I guarantee you the banshee would smoke it, I used to have 2 banshees they are fast they are 350 twin motors the Honda is a 250 single cylinder so it pretty obvious. And when I had my banshee I had a cool head with 18CC domes Toomey T6 pipes K&N filter and v force reeds and my banshee was scary fast.
4:55
Hell yeah brother!! I have the ESR 350 PV in mine. I feel like I’m flirting with death every time I ride it
👍👍👍
350 powervalve? Wow i bet that is badass
Nothing like the sound of a good running Banshee.
Amen to that, I could listen to that banshee all day
The 310 had a power to weight ratio over the 350 making it faster, I've had 4 , all 250R's so I know what I'm talking about. I've rode a banshee before and they are fast for sure but they are also heavy which makes them inferior to the 250R. I beat a banshee on my 84. I'm 58 now and that was all back in the day lol but I'm thinking about getting another one and see if this old man can still rip it up.
Did we ask
That's cool I have my atc and I love it
Man there's just something about those 80's two strokes... My dad put a '87 KX250 engine inside of a Bultaco Astro flattrack bike and went expert in AMA flattrack racing, to bad I wasn't alive to witness it but dang. Mind you he raced from '96 to '99 and the engine was 10 years old and everyone had brand new race bikes and he was one of the best out there... Crazy 😂
Why would you dislike this vid? sweet sounds of 2-stroke music....
I still remember getting a brand new Honda 250R 3 wheeler’s and on the third time riding the 3 wheeler I swiped it over a train track in Florida and I basically just gave it away
Damn that 250r is fast!
I've rolled my fair share of 250r's. I still have one, rebuilding and restore in progress!
i would love to ride either that looks like so much fun
I had a 250R at like 14, I was a crazy little shit with no helmet and probably weighed 90lbs. I remember kicking up rocks on hoods of cop cars 😂😂
Tipping over and wiping out the three wheeler that brings back memories kind of thinking that's why they stop making them been there done that...
That's it's why they stopped making them..
Banshee's are amazing. Never been so scared in my life except the time my cousin took me out on his supped up Yamaha jet ski at 90 mph. AHHHHHHH
