Just got a 3 pack of 1980 ct 70s...got 2 running already...just needed new carbs (which came with the purchase) Third one has engine off...missing a few covers. Piston seems stuck. Gonna soak it like you said. $1500 for all 3 and the new carbs.🙂

Great minds think alike! Finally getting some work done on my dad’s 88 300 4x4. Nothing major just cleaning, maintenance and preservation. I forgot how much I loved these ol’ work horses! I noticed something on the Honda manual for this one I hadn’t seen before, printed in 87, the 300 rider looks on at a couple of what I believe look to be 350 riders, ATC and FOURTRAX. Is that a clue there was an 87 350X? Prolly not, but I like to think so 😆

Gotta look into that bypass system, we have electronic shift problems come in all the time. That strip of seat cover material on the nose was perfect. Just sold a 250es and a dx225 and celebrated with a nice steak while watching the vid. Party's over, back to the ranch for work and sweat, breaking up my 13 day work week and only 6 more days at the shop till a day off. Take care, I'm already thinking about cooler weather!

hey man a while ago i took apart and replaced my clutch and when i got finished i found a copper washer near where i was working. a few years have gone by and now my motos has aluminum metal in it. is there a copper washer in there anywhere or no?

i ripped my motor out 4 years ago to restore the pain on the frame and engine now i really wish i went through the top end because i am having some grinding noises im hoping its just cam chain and guides. and yes Lou knows everything about atcs, quads and motors.

I just bought a 1998 honda fourtrax 250 that's identical to the recon, they are nice bikes!

Its looking good i told you my razor blade trick works lol

So instead of scraping the plastic. Use a heat gun on it. Brings it back to the original look. And so much easier. Some people use a touch. But I find the heat gun is more even.

Fantastic vid. A sweet looking ride from a humble past. Not a critic, just adding some information about a topic I've spent some time with. The length of the staple is also important, I use 3/8 5/16 and 1/2 inch or the metric equivalent, depending on the placement on the underside of the pan. {I've put them right thru brand new covers from underneath} Old and more brittle covers are great to use over foam that's been patched to give soft areas a little more body before the new cover is installed. I totally agree about not liking the one piece covers, the stitches even make it easier to install them evenly from side to side. Just for the record, without having an amazing skillset like yours, I'm kind of a 1 trick pony and could have salvaged that old seat on a clean piece of cardboard on my tailgate. If you ever get this far up north, let me know and after I teach you everything I know in 30 minutes, and the rest of the time riding or throw a line in the pond for some small mouth.
