Looks like a nice hiding place. Long ago it was. It probably was not so wet. Unless I saw it myself, I don't know how dry the ground is. It seems like a place native Americans would use, many made thier homes by rivers and creeks. I remember my great grandparents had a house not far from a creek. They kept a lot of the old ways hunting fishing
They always lived by woods. I guess they didn't feel safe was on guard, if felt threaten they could go deep in the woods. I admired thier courage, I remember my mom maternal grandfather, he taught us a lot about herbs, natural meds. Grew a lot of what they ate ,hunted and fished. He was already in his 70s by time I was born but he had a lot knowledge, his sight became cloudy, cataracts were not talked about. He could see, knew well where things was, had us digging up roots, from certain trees, we'd clean them, boil them, strain the water through a clean cloth, he would drink the liquid. He said the Berry root had just as much vitamins and health benefits as the berries themselves . My. Mom said all her life she never knew him to be sick. Just before he got in his 80s he just went down health wise and he passed. There was natives on both sides of my moms family, her mother and father. I'm greatful to have known them and I still practice herbal medicine. I'm doing research, following my moms mother family.thier journey from one town and county to where the settled and passed. I hope to publish a book, if not for but just my family to have the information. Thank God I asked questions and learned a lot
You are never to young to learn. I keep old obituaries. They have come in handy. Love, respect and positivity always. Neita.✌🖖🕯🙌🦋🌠🌻💕✨⚡🙏🤗🙂👋👣.

Thanks for posting this video. David Lewis was my 4th great uncle. Even though I grew up in PA, I never knew about his history until I left the state, so I've never been here. It's a crying shame how people have trashed such a historic site!

At least there's one landmark of my youth that hasn't been torn down and redeveloped. I grew up about half a mile from Cave Hill. Back then in the middle 60s there was little graffiti, but still the same mud. It sure looks different with real lighting. We used to go in with an Eveready flashlight in each hand. (one of which which would usually croak before we got 30 feet in) I had a map of Carlisle, and swore I had plotted the course of the cave past the collapsed section. I knew it was right in our backyard, and I spent weeks digging a four-foot hole that was all limestone, and man, how I wanted some dynamite to blast a new entranceway into the cave. Then we moved before I could prove that I had discovered the lost passages of the Cave Hill Cave.

This was so INTERESTING. I have a book I bought from the Luzerne County Historical Society that contains stories from old newspaper articles and it contains two articles about David Lewis and the copyright is 1924, so the stories are old. The stories say that David married the daughter of one of the the jailers he was in for a short time, and he and his gang did hide loot in the caves. He would also counterfeit money and take it to Vermont and say he got it from banks in Philadelphia and other PA towns. He really loved his wife and was devastated when she died, and he also loved his mother and would visit her. He also had friends that really liked him and even helped him with food and other supplies. He had his charms even though he was a robber. So interesting to see this cave. Thanks.

I wonder if this cave is part of a larger system...the Nuville Quadrangle...I think it's called. Imagine four hands with their fingers spread....all just barely touching finger tips. I heard some cavers went to the furthest point in a Carlisle cave to where the cave petered down to a small hole. They dug the mud out and discovered the linking tunnel to one of the four of the Quadrangle...the Carnegie in Shippensburg!! One of Pa.s largest caves!! Open to public. While living in Ship. I got interested in the Carnegie cave near the 81 . It's Hugh!!!.Takes hours to explore.

Now that’s a cave They are so fascinating. I’ve heard stories about Lewis the robber. My father in law said the ole boy would rob the stage coaches in the area and hide the loot in caves. . Don’t know how he knew this but he acted like Lewis and he were best friends ! This cave is huge I’m surprised there aren’t any stalagmites. Or stalactites inside. Well cliff the adventure was fun. Keep making your videos and your fans Will. Keep watching me included.

The Wandering Woodsman I subscribed to your channel today. I really like what you do on here. I live in a small town in Centre county and except for a couple years ive lived here my whole life. I also enjoy doing what you do during the spring & summer but its always kind of been a challenge for me to find things other than well known places to explore. You've really showed me a lot of areas that i can now eventually check out. But how have you learned about all the hidden away gems you know about? Cause around here either there isn't anything or i need better resources to find them. I'm about 20 minutes away from State College (PSU) . If you know of anything closer my way I'd appreciate any help. Ever heard of the cave system named J4 ? Thats the coolest thing thats close to me im aware of. It's by Pleasant Gap I believe. Not sure if its still accessible these days, but J4 is the biggest and best cave in PA and please, if given the opportunity to go here, u must! Definitely need a good flashlight and a good friend tho cause it can be very dangerous in there. There are some videos on here and info online about J4 if its something u want to lean about.

  • @paulmerritt7540

My research of another part of the nearby countryside yielded information which indicated Lewis and a cousin had at one time tried to rob the cousins relative who ran a sawmill, only to end up killing the man during the robbery and then they hid in the famed "Lewis Rocks" over near the tumbling run nature preserve. Don't know if it has any further story beyond that....

check out Letort springs, in Carlisle another cave is there, I was in it and found a period shell casing and a lantern. Any way that is a cave that he supposedly stasched gold in and people have found gold coins along the creek there. Ok I caught something odd but awesome... Ok go to 13:08 an pause it then watch the bottom right there is a figure standing there once u shine the light on it it drops really fast right behind that rock turn on the bottom right... Play it in slow motion an watch it a few times from 13:05 an u will see the figures eye shine drop when the light catches him... Then I'm thinking what would be like probably 4 to 5 feet tall following him that quietly deep ina cave then I get to 13:34 and Bam it's laying on the ground on the left and it's a young Bigfoot!! People can say I'm crazy but watch the footage he caught a young Bigfoot which I would assume is where the Bigfoot lives following him!!
