They were really good. Saw them in 77, and Page and Plant in mid-late 90's, too. Not in a really good venue, sound-wise, but 'The Song Remains The Same' is a damn good opener for a concert.
I'm with you brother, Zeppelin opened my eyes in 69. Nobody had ever heard anything like it in my world at least. I can't really choose one favorite but Rain Song, Ten Years Gone and Ramble On would probably be top 3. Kashmir is really the only hit song of theirs I didn't dig

Roberts voice, Jimmy's guitar playing with JPJ and John Bonham, just carries you away on a journey through the cosmos. Those Folk inspired songs, just perfect to help you escape.
It always blows my mind how Jimmy Page heard chord progressions and put seemingly random inversions together into highly memorable, groovy, and often moving songs. Never cliche and always surprising. We’re not even talking about the genius production tricks and methods that makes everything so distinctly Zeppelin (e.g., When the Levee Breaks). JP was flat out a genius in the Zep years and my musical hero!
I loved alot of the rock edge that Cream. Hendrix, Deep Purple & more had, BUT when LED ZEP 2 hit, Man it ran the table & cleared out the hall. It changed EVERYTHING. I was 17 .It was Huge.
Thank you! Pagey has been in my top 3 since Zep arrived when I was 14 in 1969. My older brother had a band in the SF Bay area in the 60s, so I have, because of him, been a musician all my life. Jimi, Jimmy (Pagey), Jeff . . . The Who (all the classic masters and truly greats)! Another really and truly great one is/was Tommy Bolin. Enough can never be said about Tommy! No matter what band he was in, he was a force of nature within it and left his indelible imprint upon it forever. Also, there's one greatly important song which must never be overlooked, and that is "Beck's Bolero" which was the original concept for Led Zeppelin; with Beck, Page, Moon, Hopkins, and JPJ. That song predicted the future of music. The production is (was in 1968) so ahead of its time! Really, the birthplace of heavy rock. I saw Zep 9 times. I've seen Jeff Beck even more. I began as a recording engineer in 1972. I am a composer/producer/guitarist, and I blame this all on Jimmy Page. And Eddie Kramer. Anyway, the pandemic lock-down has given me the time to research and revitalize. I built a home studio which my son uses for his EDM stuff (Mixing EDM with hard and heavy rock). And about to celebrate my 66th birthday, I figure it's time to complete my own musical oeuvre before its too late. Leave my many albums of original music to my grandson (FWIW). So, you, and many others are being my refresher coaches. Making me remember all that I know, but had become a bit disconnected from for the past few years. Most of these videos I watch, I say, "Oh yeah, that, already know it, next." But your videos are enjoyably entertaining. To see such a young person as yourself so involved and invested in the music, the soundtrack of my own lifetime. Fantastic! Keep on rocking!!! Again, thank you!!!
As far as my favorite band's go, Zeppelin is second only to Rush, and it's close. I'm an adult beginner guitarist playing a year and a half, so I'm still a beginner; but with enough musical miles on me from listening over a half century to appreciate your more advanced topics, David. I came across your channel a few months ago, introduced my friend who's been playing almost 5 decades to it, and heard him rave about your content. Thank you for it.
I love bands who don't consider any style of music "off limits". Led Zeppelin might be at the top of the list for that reason. It's why "Physical Graffiti" is such a perfect double album.
Killer killer killer!! Thanks for shedding light on the bridge (where’s that confounded bridge?!) in the Wanton Song. I also have to play Rain Song all the way through. Great ringing chords. There’s a great Guitar World transcription from 30 years ago where I learned it.
_The Rain Song_ is also my favorite Zeppelin song. I used to play it often on my 12 string acoustic witch went everywhere with me back then (note: I know Jimmy played it on 6 string guitars). I also usually play the first version I learned in standard tuning. It's a lot trickier, but not only convenient when you only have one guitar with you, it actually blends perfectly well with the alternate tuning.
In case you aren't aware, There's a Great White album called "Great Zeppelin." It's a full live concert recording of Great White performing all Zeppelin. It is the absolute best f*cking thing, man. It's like...if Zeppelin had been able to record the concert they always wanted. Years ago I worked in a local music shop and I was playing it in the store. A customer in the store said, "what album is this? I have tons of bootleg Zeppelin, I don't have anything this good." I told him and showed him the CD case and I think he was actually bummed it was Great White. Not that it wasn't Zeppelin, but I got the impression he hated having to admit it was incredible! And hats off to Mark Kendall because he is an enormous Page fan and I've never heard ANYONE play those parts so genuinely. The whole band was stellar.

Going to be super duper picky here. After the slide from 4th to 9th fret in Rain Song, don’t forget to drop 8th fret “A” string. Awesome lesson that brought out so much of Page’s nuance and creativeness.
Great lesson. I didn't realize all the "dancing" triads on Dancing Days. I always played it in first position (with D/Dadd9), but when you play it, its much more harmonically rich. I agree that Zeppelin is the most influential rock band, but think the Beatles were the best songwriters in pop/rock history. Both belong at the highest tier.

I was only 11 or 12 years old when the first album came out & hearing good times bad times It just blew us away, It sent a chill up & down my spine. I mean we had The Cream & Hendrix back in that time but Zeppelin inspired me to getting in to the drums Bonham was it. But yeah i feel what you're saying they inspired & really changed music, It was different & a harder type music, I think they started hard rock. Great great band it never gets old! I'm picking up the guitar & playing around with that now. Great job dude!

I get the led out on my 07 R9 and 59 Supro every day. Took me years to nail Houses of the Holy solo and outro solo. Plate reverb dialed down on the bridge and just really feeling the lightness of jimmy's playing
In the early 80's I learned how to play "Rain Song" in standard tuning. I wish I knew about this tuning long ago, it's so much easier to play this way than standard tuning.
I love Led Zeppelin! Quite a few years ago I recorded all the guitar parts to Achilles Last Stand. It took a while because I kept hearing parts that I missed, there are so many layers of guitar orchestra to that song. It was a lot of work but the experience taught me a lot that I use in my originals to this day.

Secret notes, I like that! I have a tendency to do that specially when I was younger. When I would write a song, even if I was going like a thousand miles an hour, I would sneak in a note here or a quick power chord there that only I realized made it kind of extra special! Then after the years I go back and relearn these songs and I almost forgotten that I had placed those things there. And I would like surprise myself, like "hey" that's pretty cool! LOL That's truly what makes Led Zeppelin special I would say. Jimmy Page always had the tendency to go the extra mile. I wonder if he got that from all those years of working in the studio. Perhaps it was out of the very boredom, that he would like to stretch himself! LOL

Thanks- I play Ramble on with a slide upto the 11 on A string(with open E ringing) and grip the 9th(A shape)behind it for the first chord-then go to bar on 7th. Thanks

I got into led Zep in the early 70s when they was way up there, without doubt one of the greatest rock bands ever they took it to another level, but there is also a gentle side to their music such as the lovely rain song which I played recently in open the open tuning, Jimmy is fine acoustic player, thanks for this insight into the giant that is Jimmy Page.

Secret notes, I like that! I have a tendency to do that specially when I was younger. When I would write a song, even if I was going like a thousand miles an hour, I would sneak in a note here or a quick power chord there that only I realized made it kind of extra special! Then after the years I go back and relearn these songs and I almost forgotten that I had placed those things there. And I would like surprise myself, like "hey" that's pretty cool! LOL That's truly what makes Led Zeppelin special I would say. Jimmy Page always had the tendency to go the extra mile. I wonder if he got that from all those years of working in the studio. Perhaps it was out of the very boredom, that he would like to stretch himself! LOL

I have watched a lot of videos covering the Rain Song, lessons, etc., all good, but yours is the most authentic sounding that I have seen and heard.

Excellent lesson, I never stop learning from Page. I've played the Rain song a billion times but this time i had the electric behind you doing fills, and had a blast! Thanks- I play Ramble on with a slide upto the 11 on A string(with open E ringing) and grip the 9th(A shape)behind it for the first chord-then go to bar on 7th. Thanks

AWESOME as usual. You could do a complete lesson on the Bass line of Ramble on as well as the others. It is definitely part of what makes them so great, 4 incredible musicians.
I got into led Zep in the early 70s when they was way up there, without doubt one of the greatest rock bands ever they took it to another level, but there is also a gentle side to their music such as the lovely rain song which I played recently in open the open tuning, Jimmy is fine acoustic player, thanks for this insight into the giant that is Jimmy Page.

The new rig sounds pretty well dialed in. Can't deny the creativity and talent of Zeppelin. A 'greater than the sum of it's parts' band. Tangerine is my fav.
