A lot of people have purchased this camera recently. There are ways to get some high quality videos out of this camera it just takes a few minor adjustments to the settings. Here is how I get the highest quality video for my Sony a7III while shooting.

M is refered to bitrate not resolution. 30p 100M means 30 frames per second with 100mbps

Had this weird Sony problem that I was only able to select 25p for 50/100m - now I changed it to the PAL mode and it worked for me! Thank you so much for the Video.

Hi! Thanks for the vid. Have a question re Function ring. I have the 24-70mm FE 2.8 Sony lens and when I try to click on it to turn it on... it says that it isn't supported. Do you know what kind of lenses are supported for the function ring? other than the ones you listed? thanks!

this is an awesome video, and thank you for making this so easy to understand! I'm a newbie and starting to get into videography and could really use your advice: I am always filming in 60fps due to needing to slowmo the videos if necessary. I realize now that when doing that, I'm not getting the highest quality footage I could be getting, and I see that 4k only goes up to 30fps. What settings do you recommend, especially if you know you may need to slow down the footage later - but still want the highest quality?
I would still recommend shooting in that 60fps, but I would get in the habit of switching back and forth between 4k and 1080 in this regard.

Dude I never comment on videos either but this was perfect. You got right to the point and these things are simple or whatever, but I just got this camera (switched from canon) and this was so helpful. Making the ISO the spin wheel is so clutch, mine wasn’t set to anything. I thought I had to keep pressing right on the wheel and scrolling to desired setting. The 4k 1080p 120 frames thing was helpful also. I love slow-mo haha thanks brother

I've got a question, when I try to put on the function ring (lens) setting, my camera is telling me that I can't put on this option because my lens is not taken in charge. I don't understand 😂 can you please help me? It's one of the best option and it would be so sad if I couldn't put it on :)

Hi Zach! Awesome video! I have a question for you. I bought the Sonya7iii because I saw most fitness videos are filmed with it and that is what my business is. Do you have a recommended "default" video setting for that? I know nothing about cameras and such so that's why I stumbled upon your video in the first place.
Awesome! Yeah so the easiest way to do it would be to shoot in A Mode, or auto mode. This can be done by changing the dial on top of your camera. I highly recommend learning to shoot in M mode eventually and I have a video for that! but for now just starting out learning the camera A mode will do just fine!
What lens do you need for the function ring to work? It’s saying the lens I have on there currently is not supported which is a Tamron 70-180. Also with the Steadyshot settings in manual mode where you can set the focal length would it be better to set it at the high end of that focal length so for that Tamron lens set it to 180mm?
what video settings would you recommend for filming the aurora (not time-lapse) with the a7iii? Picture Profile, Gamma, and color mode settings?
Hi Zach thank you for your amazing video. I learned a lot from your video. I just have a question. In steady short setting and steady shot focal length option, I've heard the mm should match your lens focal length mm. Isn't that true?
Technically yes, that is true. I’ve found it doesn’t make that much of a difference when filming but in order to get the best results, that is what Sony recommends
I use xachd, what setting you are recommend for car static shot for speed ramp

When I do change my FILE FORMAT to XAVC S 4K, It only gives me 2 RECORD SETTINGS which are25P 100M and 25p 60M.

So sometimes when you buy a Sony camera it has automatic setting programmed onto it. In your case, it is currently in the PAL setting, where my camera was in NTSC. It’s simply a matter of which country you bought your camera in or where it was shipped from, etc. It’s simply a location thing.
There is a way to change that in your settings. It should be under your main setting page, and it should just say “NTSC/PAL Selector” and just click on that to change it. It may reboot your camera, but once you switch it, it will stay that way until you switch it back.
Hi Zach! Great videos! Thank you for those! I have got a question: What's better if I want to shoot in 60fps, and my sequence will be 24fps. Shall I use S&Q in 60fps recording in 24fps or better XAVC S HD and 60 fps, turning it into 24fps sequence in post?Or another way?
Thank you! Definitely using XAVCS will get you a better quality image. Then when you drag your 60fps clip into the timeline it will automatically convert to 24fps. But if you desired, you would be able to slow that clip down to essentially >50% speed because your timeline frame rate is 24, and your clip frame rate it 60 so 24/60 = >0.5 or 50%

I’m not sure! But it might be from your frame rate. Make sure you double your shutter from your fps. So if I’m shooting in 4k 60fps. I make sure my shutter is at least 1/120. Same for 4k 30fps, I’ll have my shutter speed at 1/60 at least.

Hi, if I put in these settings my camera says: " To perform shooting with these settings, use a UHS-I U3/ UHS-II U3 compatible memory card". This sounds like abra cadabra to me, do you know what this means? I was also wondering if you could set two different shooting preferences (so day and night video settings), so that I can easily shift without putting in the ISO and F every time again. I use a 128gb SanDisk Extreme Pro. It’s my favorite card out there. a little pricey as far as memory cards go but it’s really

Hi Zach, what do you think is the best way to go about using the a7iii for vertical videos? Is there a preffered setting for this or do you recommend changing in post ?
If I know I’m shooting a video that will be edited vertically, I generally just shoot it vertical instead of cropping in post. But for vertical I still shoot in 4k 24fps, and when I export, I export to 1920x1080

hey zach, i just want to ask u again. should i use xavcs hd or xavc4k and what fps do i have to use for some 1/2 minutes campaign or commercial video? and which is best to upload on a social media?
For higher quality use xavcs4K
and for fps I would use 24 or 30.
For socials I usually export in 1080p 24fps except on TH-cam where I export in 4K 24fps

Ive never understood the auto slow shutter because I've heard a lot of different opinions on it, any specific reason you keep it on? Do you shoot a lot of low light?
No particular reason necessarily, I try to always have it on while shooting indoor weddings or at night though

Hi Zach! Thank you for this video! The only issue that I have is setting up Function Ring as Power Focus. It's unavailable on my camera for some reason. Instead, I see the message while trying to klick onto Function Ring: Please attach a supported lens since the current lens is not supported. I use Sony A7III with Sigma 24-70mm F2.8, and I have no clue what's happening. I make photos and videos with this lens and it works, but to set up this setting I'm not able to. Maybe someone has experienced the same issue and knows how to solve it? Thanks!

Hi, love this video. Thanks a lot :) Question: what setting should I change if I only have the 25P 100M & 25p 60M options to shoot in 4K?
Also I can't change the steadyshot settings to various mm, it's just a ''--'' and when I try to change it tells me I cannot. Is it because of my lens? (which has inbuilt stabilisation)
To answer both questions-
If those are the settings you’re seeing, then your camera is in PAL mode, you need to change it to NSTC. It’s simply based off where you purchased your cameras geographic wise.
Steadyshot may not be available in the mode you are filming in. If you are filming in XAVCS 4K at 100M, I’m not sure if you have the ability to turn on steadyshot

either way you’ll get great footage, it’s really personal preference. it won’t affect qulaity whatsoever

Hey Zach! A couple quick questions, taking this camera and these settings in mind, what is the best SD card for continuous shooting, like for a TH-cam or music video? And do you recommend shooting in compressed or uncompressed raw for those types of videos? Lastly 😅 if I want to be able to shoot and have normal footage speeds,but be able to edit it to slow mo for creative shots, what fps do you recommend overall? Thank you!!!

I would say a good budget lens for that type of this would be the sony 50mm 1.8, but a more expensive lens, I could see the 16-35 G Master being helpful for filming food.

Hi Zach a question! What if you want to record audio when filming. Would you change the fps to 24 instead ?
No. Audio technically does have a frame rate but the way audio works is it just records off of a time code. So no matter if you’re in 60fps, 30fps or 24fps, your audio will stay consistent with the footage. Great question!!
hi. liked your video... can you tell me if you have the same issue.. im kind of disappointing in my A7III. I also have a sony FX6 and I know, I shouldnt compare those two.. but yet I do.🙄
After I have shot with my A7III there is alot of video noise, and that does not go away in post and grading. Do you have the same "raw file" issue or is your picture quality good in raw? I also shoot in Log3
Noise can be an issue when shooting in S-log if you are not color grading properly, that might be the issue. But also the Fx6 is going to waaaayy out preform the A7iii in low light, so just be aware of what ISO you are using and keeping your exposure level between +1.3 - +1.7

For Sony, It should be under picture profiles, and it will be called S-Log 3. For canon Im not sure but I assume it would be something similar!
Very helpful video but if I select the 4K recording option I only get two choices in the Record Setting screen ie 25P 100M and 25P 60M as opposed to the greater options in the video ?
There should be an option on your camera to switch it to NSTC mode vs PAL. This will allow you to see the same settings I do

I think your issue is that your camera is set to PAL instead of NSTC. This is set purely based on your manufacturer and location. There is a way to change it in your settings, and it should be on the “yellow toolbox” section.

I think they’re useful in any type of situation! I might switch back and forth between 60fps and 30fps, but other than that, they should work just fine!

To my knowledge the A7iii only can record up to 8 bit in 4K, but some of the newer sony models can change back and forth

It does have a built in microphone but I would recommend getting small Rode Mic. It’s because of the region you purchased your camera in. Either it’s in PAL or NSTC I think. but 25p 100 will still give you good footage but you should be able to change that setting. Just look up “PAL to NSTC sony a7iii” I hope that helps, i’m just not exactly sure on how to do that

i have a recording stodio in which i will be recording teachers online classes, i have all the tools needed, but i still dont have the camera and im searching to what fits me, hence i will be recording in 1080 hd, and a 30 frame, hence my studio is 3*4 meters, i have the budget of 1000$ to 2000$ so what lens fits me the best with what camera, so im thinking about the sony a7 III, note that i only to purchase sony camera. and if u want more details i will be glad to povide you with further details.
For that type of shoot with that budget, I really like the Sony a7iii and the 50mm f2.8 prime lens. The a7iii is around $1700 and the 50mm is around $250 or so. With that setup you could make the online classes a bit more personal because the 50mm really accentuates people in my opinion. Are you trying to film a whiteboard too or just the person talking

No such thing! Yeah they should work good for streaming content as well
What about color profiles?
What kind of lens do you use for your camera. My two lens do not allow me to use power focus mode.
I typically use G master lenses or G series lenses
