Salmon is lore officianado here. Wanted to point out a few things you seemed to have missed or gotten wrong. Just want to spread more knowledge about these little goobers!
-Fish Sticks are directly relate to Stingers. As stated in the Employee Manuel, they are Stingers in training, working to improve their lung capacity in order to operate the powerful face-mounted laser used by Stingers.
-As far as we know, all Salmonid are the same species. Instances of specific species being referenced in Salmonid names don’t exist in the original Japanese version. Steelheads are just called “Bomb” and Chinooks are just called “Salmon ‘Copter”. Maws’ color is quite strange, though I doubt their Japanese name of “Mole” has anything to do with that.
-We do have some information regarding Smallfry and their transformation into Hugefry, albeit mainly in Japanese sources. According to one of the Sunken Scroll’s Japanese text, Smallfry is a “keiji”, a phenomena which refers to smallfry that are separated from their schools during Big Runs. These keiji Salmonid have notorious hungers and are capable of turning into a Hugefry, for reason unclear. This is actually a reference to a real world phenomena regarding salmon. A keiji salmon refers to a baby salmon born in Russian waters that gets mixed up during migration and end up in Japanese waters. These keiji salmon are very rare and very expensive due to supposedly having fattier meat.

I meant to mention the first part!! As for the maws and steelhead situation, for at least the steelheads and big shots, they are both directly confirmed to be rainbow trout (note that their names in both languages have nothing to do with this)
maws is also said somewhere to be an eel, but i dont think this is true as it pretty much resembles a salmon. Thanks for your input though!!

@@sove4503 Glad to help out, though I must ask you something. Where are Steelhead and Big Shots confirmed to be rainbow trout, aside from their English name? I assumed you were pulling from the fact that there is a rainbow trout in real life called a Steelhead, but now I'm genuinely curious.

@@chaoticdumbasspan5571 i actually made a mistake the English name does say it's a rainbow trout, but it's implied this is the case also due to big shots being designated a different species as well (the same as steelheads) and due to how salmonids work this wouldn't really make sense if they were normal salmon, my fault

@@sove4503 As far as I can tell the Salmonid Field Guide simply calls Steelhead and Big Shot "muscle-bound Salmonid". Is there something in the Japanese version I'm simply unaware of?

I'm not the best at researching, and I'm limited to the English side of research... But I have *never* seen or heard anything confirming them to be trout aside from the references in their English names. The idea that they have been "confirmed" as trout is probably something this person or a friend of theirs heard once and took it at face value.@@chaoticdumbasspan5571

the smallfry we get in splatoon 3 basically split up from its school and found agent 3 but im sure we all knew that. what im here to explain is why smallfry turns into hugefry.
smallfry is actually a rare type of salmonid called a "keiji" which has the ability to transform into hugefry. this is also why smallfry has such a huge appetite.
keiji salmon are also a real thing and only 1 in 10,000 are caught, this is also what the splatoon dev team used for smallfry. keiji are usually born in russian steams but if they stray to far they might end up following a different school back to japan and thats why they're called keiji.
(also smallfry gets split up from its school during a big run.)

I don't think it's weird that only the salmon mutated since the other anthro aquatic animals we see in-universe can't even enter water, while the Salmonids literally live there, so I think it makes sense that genetic damage (or i guess enhancements in this case?) would only happen to the creatures who are always in the radioactive water

    • @TrinityCore60
      @TrinityCore60 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

That isn’t a bad idea. I’ve heard that Salmonids develop into large forms by surviving hardships. And the Splatlands are as harsh as it gets around Inkadia and nearby places.
The only question is, when and how would a Salmonid stay there long enough for that when their territory is further away?

(you could probably could use some more SR gameplay if you have a capturecard)
Another thing to note that the sunken scroll for our smallfry has a few things omitted from the japanese text. Being that sometimes in a school of 10,000 salmonids will have a rare 'rogue' smallfry that usually ends up separated from its school during a big run.
As for Hugefry, irl salmons do go through metamorphosis during a salmon run and calamari inkantation is a weird song with mystical properties as we seen when agent 8 and Marina leave the octarians cause of it but otherwise, I'm not sure what exactly causes smallfry to evolve so to speak.

There is another way: The capture button on the left Joy-con. Pressing it for 1s records the last 30s of gameplay to a video file - less time if the last clip was taken less than 30s ago. It's possible to just spam it every 20-ish seconds or so, then line up all those clips in order in an editor. There's a noticeable one or two frame cut between each clip most of the time when lined up this way but better than nothin

I think that the king salmonids are the ones that hatch from golden eggs, that's why the salmonids care so much about them, but the ones that hatch from these eggs not always become Kings (as an example, there is a huge similarity with megalodontia and maws, this may prove that maws didn't have the training/life condition or are simply too young to become a king salmonid)
Oh and the goldies probably do not serve any purpose to the battlefield, because they only come out during the night and most importantly, only in certain nights, when there is the fog (the goldie needs to give oxygen to the eggs she carries, and the fog is the safest enviorment given the low visibility, even other fish species do so, like the mudskipper) when there is the rush (they didn't have any training since their purpose is just laying eggs, they get lured out of the water from the glowflies) and during the sewer nights (when they just hide in the sewers, where they probably take care of their eggs, they also get defended by the lessers hidden in the sewers with them)
