Yes, bread is made from FLOUR, not FLOWER (which, by the way, are pronounced exactly the same!) 😂 Anyway, this isn't a cooking class... Hola from Perú. Biggest thank you for your lessons. I have to admit that British English sounds very hard for me. I saw flower and thought: I know nothing.
When you understand the word "make" as "create", everything becomes much clearer. What are you doing? = What action are you performing? What are you making? = What are you creating?
Some Americans do say "make a photo" or "made a photo," particularly if they are photographers. (I've heard Ansel Adams may have been the originator of this usage.) Do/make in conjunction with the word "project" is an interesting one. "Are you making progress on your project?" vs "How are you doing on your project?" "What are you going to do for your final project?" and "What are you going to make for your final project?" could both be acceptable, depending on what the context is for that final project. If you're writing a paper, then "do" refers to the subject of the paper, but if you're in a class where projects are physical items, like food or clothing, or sculptures, etc., then "make" would be correct.
Thank you... very useful. Interestingly, make is used for food and drinks but we can't say "I make the cooking" we have to use - do in this context "I do the cooking".
Thank you for your effort, you do a great job for us. To find your channel was out of the blue for me. You are one of the best teachers. I try to do my best in English, you help me a lot, teacher.
@@EnglishWithGreg I watched the video several times now. And between you and me it's fantastic. So much information, so many examples. I enjoy it every time. You are right. It's worth it to put it in my "Favourites". I'll watch it again and again. I love it. Thanks a lot for that. I appreciate your effort with this video. Take care. Marco
Good day, Greg. Thanks a lot for this lesson. It's helpful as always 🙂. Could you explain the difference between "make from" and "make of"? Thank you in advance 💓
I would say reading many texts and books can give one a feeling for this, but reading short stories and watching videos of Greg in between could be a good way to proceed.
Hello Greg, cheers from sunny Brazil. Congrats for the videos, excellent learning features, specially in pronunciation, very helpful indeed. Could I suggest a theme for a short video? What are the differences in meaning among the words: between, among, amongst, amid and amidst? I hear people using between all the time even for more than two objects. Thanks in advance!
Thank you so much.I mostly use do and make correctly ,but it's quite difficult to explain the differences.Maybe just because we used to learn the expressions by heart in school .
Hi there, thank you for your teachings. If possible,Can you please do a video on examples: he doesn’t like, Simon don’t like or doesn’t like.. and also use of “ The “ kind regards. Sultan 🙏🏽
Excuse me , do You have a vídeo which explains the present perfect or past perfect when you indirectly ask a person for a favor or service,Or describe something someone else does.for You ,I'd be really grateful.
Hello, Greg, could you make a video explaining the differences between words like change, swap, exchange, switch, etc. that sometimes tend to be a little confusing. Thank you.
Big like! 👍 Thank for this video,Greg! P.S: Expressions that are obvious for English people are not always obvious for foreigners. 😜 Greetings from Hungary! 🥰
Great job, Greg! Can you tell me if the following sentences are all right: You made a good video about do and make. I did English at school ( replacing the verb to study) Have a good one!
Hi Greg, İ hope you are good. İ will be a question to you. İ 'm confusing abouth that. ( Up and down) Both of them is used a lot in the sentence. Forexample come up, put up, set up, was up, now up etc...noise down, knock down, downward , downhearted etc.. they are both are used with verb. Please ,Can you post me a video or lesson with These. Thanks in advance.
My (French) wife still says “make a tour” to say something like “circle around the parking lot,” even though her English is impeccable. As an American, I might say something more like “make a loop.” For me, the word “tour“ always means a guided visit. When she says “let’s make a tour around the supermarket,” I always joke that I’m not really interested in touring the place where I get my groceries. Does anyone know of an English dialect where “tour“ means just to walk around in a circle?
Hi, Greg. Thank you for the video, it`s really helpful. I would like to ask you if I could use some of your tips and examples in my videos. I am an English teacher in Brazil and I always recommend my students to watch your channel. But most of them can`t understand everything in English, yet. So, I would like to use your tips but in Portuguese, if you allow me, of course. I would mention where I got the content and I would leave the link to your video, too. Thank you.
Very useful thank, BUT there's one thing I don't get 10:43 here you say do substitutes the obvious verbs in the context. But based on this, practically like 80% of the sentences could use do. Who says what's obvious? :) and for who is obvious in the first place? Also just as a side note and philosophy, isn't this a kind of phasing out of these expressions from the language? Cos if you only say do, and not paint, after a while it will be forgotten, that you 'paint' your nails. You just do it. Just a thought experiment, I'm not a linguistics expert or anything.
Not easy to remember all that. I think the best thing is to learn all these expressions by heart as many times as necessary so that they impose themselves in your head the day you need them.
8:20 Can't we say?: "fulfil" or similar words like "perform", "carry out" etc... We are fulfilling all these tasks. "Make bed" is something like "Prepare bed". Am I missing something?

I am used to writing word's 5-10 tens times to I know it because it was practice.
Greg, especially for teachers
Make corrections? Or do corrections?
Make 👌🏻
Which is correct, Greg? It is very important FOR me. or. It is very important TO me.
Summary: "do" - in some cases (the list is very short), "make" - in all others. Right?
