That christmas I got the Blackfoot and one of my older brothers got the 959.. this Christmas I will get that Blackfoot again :) great vid by the way, thanks for taking the time to make these

Same but I did get one - I had to pay 1/2 and my parents paid the rest for birthday and christmas combined (took many hours hard work!)

Back in the day when I had an original clod, I modified mine to have dual servos inside the centre section of the chassis. Having dual servos allowed me to have full control over each gearbox. I also changed the shocks and added smaller pinion gears to go slower for crawling. Fantastic job on the chassis btw👍

The Clod Buster has always been a dream of mine. I have wanted one since they came out. I plan to buy one as soon as I can and do a complete upgrade, similar to what you have done with this one. not sure if this will happen, my kids take up most of my money. I have watched this series several times and still don't get tired of it. The guy who owned the hobby shop, when I was a kid, had one that he put "double stacked" wheels and tires. Not sure how he did that but then used his as a pulling truck. He even had a hobby sized pulling sled. It was pretty awesome.

I had one back around 1995 and just gave it away. I was pretty stupid. Now I have the Black edition, still unbuilt. The box is so massive, I just like to look at it. Don't scrape it up yet, you still got to paint it!

This brings back some memories that i am more than happy to relive. Very tempting to go and build a second one but i did note a number of parts are slightly different to what i remember, the bump stops in particular (i rember it having crazy travel) and the mechanical speed controller. The one memory that does stick out was going to a monster truck show and coming back with one of these when i was young, then having the clod buster on display for a good 10 years after that i really do wonder where it ended up

Build tip.... Make sure the rubber stoppers in the shocks in the forward most and rearward most positions are slightly shorter. If the shocks bottom out on the outer shocks it will break the ball studs off the arms as it's a very weak point. Love the channel and keep it up. Clodbuster forever 👍

Never floated my boat back in the day, i was all about the buggies plus i had other interests mid to late 80's😉😉. Wasn't till years later when i got back into the hobby did i purchase a monster truck.. the mighty hpi Savage, which got the ball rolling again and went back and started collecting and restoring old tamiya's.. now it's gone full circle with me now restoring my Savage 21 as it's nearing its 20th birthday and parts are starting to get scarce and in some cases expensive.. I enjoyed watching this build and even considering getting one🤣👍👍

Who cares about the steering slop? It is a 1:10th scale RC model. I don't remember 1:1 monster trucks on TV in the early 90s that turned on a dime, infact, thats what made it fun to control a Clod, it behaved like a 1:1 scale monster truck, roll over anything and handle like crap. Long live the Clodbuster! Such good memories of building and bashing!

Awesome build bud and very interesting build, never pushed the button on a Clod, always fancied the Bruiser or Mountaineer so was great to watch how one of these Badboys is put together. Wow those drive hubs are massive!! I have an original RockBuster TLT and I run that with dual servos (on the axels) and 4WS so yo might want to go that route to make it a bit more nimble as the single servos as you mentioned probably not man enough for the job. It is going to be fantastic to see the upgrades (especially the shocks as they seem rubbish - dry shocks indeed).

  • @Pablo668

While I always had a soft spot for the Clod as a child, I found the Kyosho USA-1 a much more refined and enjoyable machine. Still, I can't wait to see how it does with a few mods thrown at it.

I took a Clod WAY TOO FAR back in the 80's!! I did Sled Pulling. We'd have custom Motors, hand wound for us, custom Steel Chassis and Links, and Aluminium Wheels ($80.00 EACH in 89!!!).
The rules stated that only the Axle Housings had to be Stock....
People thought we were NUTZ!!! 😲 We were building the first $1000+ RC Rigs!
Beastly though, top pull was 291lbs!!
And the Stock Steering is PANTS!!! Absolute Rubbish, that gets worse as it goes.
There are several small Companies that make Servo on Axle Adaptors, that look professional.
Even Tamiya Reps KNEW that stock Clod Steering is CRAP! It's almost designed to give you barely one Axle Steering.
    The rest of the Clod...
I'm CHUFFED, and can't wait to get my own! 😎

number 1 fail for the clod
steering slop, must be the worst designed steering of a RC model car ever
every link has slop and the servo saver is sloppy as too
the hard plastic body does not last in use
much better to find a polycarb body if your going to run this car, save the plastic for display only
and the steering nuckles (part D) tend to break at the points where the king pins screw in
the shocks are worthless, must have oil filled shocks
finally should have had ball diffs, the wheels fight each other when cornering

  • @puritan7473
    @puritan7473 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I can't work out why your steering is so bad, mine still fully original and 33 years old steers better than that, at least it can turn the wheels even if it is a bit slow.
