    Awesome. Thank you. I was trying to find out what the hell frames really does. And as you said there are few TH-cam videos on it. Your really helpt me get how surprisingly good this module is.

    It's very helpful when you focus on the capabilities of a single module. Also, helpful to see your usage to produce different melodies. Thanks.

    That was really interesting and gives me yet another cool thing to use in VCV Rack. Thanks, Greg!

    You've convinced me. I'm gonna give it a go. I've never looked at it before now, as its use wasn't immediately obvious to me. But I can definitely see the power in it, and have an idea or two to try out.

    Great tutorial, I have a physical Frames and love it especially for slow ambient music. There are folks on Muffs who do sing its praises and consider it to be Mutable Instruments Maths in terms of it's crazy possibilities. Like most of the MI modules it really does take a long time to learn it's functions and I'm not even mentioning the alt parasites firmware.

      I was thinking of calling it the Mutable instrument equivalent of Maths as far as functionality goes but thought that I may be exaggerating too much. So it's good to hear you same the same thing.

    Awesome, this would be super useful.
    P.S. I think the idea of key frames predates computer animation; in a traditional animation studio, they would have one set of animators drawing the "key frames", and another set doing the grunt work of "in-betweening", which is now just called "tweening" in a lot of software.

      @modularcuriosity  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      OK, well that makes sense that the software would follow a pre-existing animation process. Cool, I just learned something. :-)

    I've always used it as a vca / mixer... will have get into the mod side next patch. Thanks for the vid!

    Excellent walkthrough... I'm strongly considering this as a mod source to pair with FM, for the ability to cleanly slide multiple destinations in sync.

    Hm, I'm in need of an additional mixer and I'm torn if I want to get another simpler module (Doepfer A-118 or a Mutable Shades) or go for the Frames---I'm worried I'll end up tripping myself up a bit if I add this to the mix currently and might hold off for a bit

    Very nice, as usual.
    But in the last example, starting around 25:00 you have one of the Quantums wired wrongly. It is in the audio path of the oscillator rather than in the pitch CV path. Hence the "strange" notes, which also sound a bit low-fi due to the bit-crushing the Quantum does on the audio signal.

      @2JohJoh2 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hearing it was easy enough, but I had to look three times before spotting the error ...
      Sounds interesting though !
      (I guess the DC from Quantum is not exactly what the D/A is expecting however ;) )

      Did I do that again? I was wondering where that snare sound came from.

    You can store up to 64 (!) keyframes, although it only cycles through 8 colors. :)

      On the physical module it's 20 keyframes max.

    very cool, as usual, thanks! I especially like the trick about using Frames' Poly LFO mode as an input to melody generation. I experimented with that in this patch: github.com/codekiln/vcvrack-playground/blob/master/patches/modcur_17_keyframe_aka_frames_01.vcv

    How do I find the module for audio outputs, where it has the driver and sound card options ?? sifting through all these modules to find the main thing I need is pretty tiresome when I'm just trying to learn. I hope they make navigating modules more straight forward in the final release

    • @modularcuriosity
      @modularcuriosity  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The audio output I'm using is in the "core" module set. And yes, there are now so many modules that they had to add a "module type" group at the bottom so you can see all the drum modules, or clock modules etc. I think you can also set a module as a favorite so you can get to them more quickly. So yeah, that's been an issue. VCV Rack is becoming a victim of it's own success as far as having an overwhelming number of modules.

    At around 13:50 is this not a "Shepard Tone" that has been the subject of discussion in a very recent thread in the FB user group? Just occurred that perhaps I should watch the entire video before I ask questions... So Far, Excellant as always!

    • @modularcuriosity
      @modularcuriosity  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, you're right, it's very much like the continually ascending Shepard's tone. I didn't even think of that while I was building it.

    • @lwalto
      @lwalto 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is fascinating. I was recently wondering about the best way to build a shepard's tone in eurorack. I was thinking someone could get close with clouds. Maybe ideally a sinewave osc., frames, and clouds. Great video.

    I see a lot of similarities to what you can do with the Planar from Intellijel

    Inspired by this video, I created this soundcloud.com/dusty-bible/vcv-gg
    Keyframes used to random up the snare and hi hats. Thanks for the great video explaining this module

  • @Unifono2012
    @Unifono2012 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Finally, thanks. Can you do one for tides? For tides there also doesn‘t exist an overview

    • @modularcuriosity
      @modularcuriosity  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll check tonight and see if VCV Rack has a version of Tides. Rack has most, but not all, of Mutable Instruments' older modules.

    • @Unifono2012
      @Unifono2012 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice. It has. It's called Tidal modulator. You can even choose its sheep firmware.

    1:10 ya why not?

    • @modularcuriosity
      @modularcuriosity  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish I knew. It's quite a useful module and I'm surprised that even DivKid doesn't have a Frames video.
