    First of all, let express my admiration and gratitude to you and your grateful efforts and precious time. If you don't mind I have two inquires one of them about Mistake no.2. The question was in negative form (you don't have time) in my opinion, why we don't use yes+I don't. Yes here considers to be positive form in this case if we applied to mathematical processes, negative + positive = negative
    Mistake no.4 in all cases we use(or)for choosing, (and)for adding. Why we should not use 'and' in there sorry 'or' seem doesn't make sense there. Could you illustrate.

      I understand your logic, but the negative answers don't work that way in English. You don't have time tomorrow? No, I don't.
      It's true that we use "and" for addition, but it is just the rule that we use "or" when the verb is negative. Sometimes you can hear people use "and," but "or" is usually used and is considered the grammatical choice. It is because the verb is negative.

    I like this type of videos, I hope you make more. Regarding the reason why "I" always goes last is purely a matter of courtesy it is more polite to put it last than at the beginning, this is just my opinion I might be wrong. I have a question but not quite related to the topic of this video, please only if you have time, if you don’t it is fine. I heard on TH-cam an American native speaker say the following sentence “Do your legs ever gone numb when you sit down on the toilette too long?” I know that native speakers don’t always respect the grammar rules, shouldn’t he have said “HAVE your legs ever gone numb when you sit down on the toilette FOR too long?” thank you in advance.

      He probably said "Do you legs ever go numb..." (not gone). This is actually totally fine and sounds normal to me. We use "ever" with present perfect to talk about things we may have done once, or with the simple present to talk about things that may happen sometimes. Do you ever wish you lived in another country? Do you ever skip breakfast? That's asking about things that are generally true in our present life versus "Have you ever skipped breakfast?", which changes the focus to something we may have done in our lives (in the past).
      We often omit words, and "for" is one of them, especially before "too long."
      Also, just so you know, toilet is spelled toilet in English.
      I hope that helps! :)

      You explained it very well, thank you so much. About the word toilet, I often mispell toilet and example with the French spelling "toilette" and "exemple."

      Yes, I assumed that was the reason, especially since there are so many cognates in the two languages. No problem :) I just wanted you to know.

    Very well done! I sometimes make the mistake number 3. Now I'll try to remember the tip you gave me on this video.
    Jenna, at the mistake number 4, talking about negative verbs with two nouns, would it be wrong if you have used "nor" instead of "or"? For exemple: I don't speak Spanish nor Italian. Thanks in advance.

    • @LearnAcademicEnglish
      @LearnAcademicEnglish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, we use "nor" with "neither," so you can say "I speak neither Spanish nor Italian," but using a negative verb + or would be more common, like this: "I don't speak Spanish or Italian."

    Good morning! I have a question which doesn't relate to your video if you don't mind. I heard one of the English series about a friend of a girl who asked her who is elder you or your sister? She replied that she younger than I'm. Why she didn't than me instead? Could you illustrate?

    • @LearnAcademicEnglish
      @LearnAcademicEnglish  หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can respond with "She is younger than me." or "She is younger than I am." In the second case, it needs to be a clause with subject and verb. It is not possible to say "than I'm" at the end of a sentence because we don't end sentences with the contraction "I'm". I hope that helps!

    i've two question prof,i hope you dont mind
    i do a lot of training toefl lately and i have weakness with grammar especially when the test like this one
    tornados, powerful, destructive wind stroms, occur most often in the spring when hot winds................. over flat land encounter heavy cold air.
    A. which to rise
    B. that rising
    C. are rising
    D. rising
    that was make me confuse when the option wanna us to choose one of them, are rising and rising???? that rising??? what's the different???? urghhh and there are serveral same question in my exam. so i decide to fixing more about my grammar. would you help with this topic??? cause i was try ask my room mate but they just laugh me and called me stupid. and when i ask my teacher, he doesnt care and pass my asked. that's make me sadness, but i doesnt give up just like i do, just studying with youtube or maybe book, so would you help me
    and there is to many rules in grammar, i've listen and studying and writing all about it since i was younger, but i cant remember clearly even one rules after 3 days. i was understood about the rules but why i cant apply in speaking and writing??

    • @LearnAcademicEnglish
      @LearnAcademicEnglish  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a feeling that your roommates and teacher don't know and that's why they avoid your question (or maybe your roommates know but they don't know how to explain it). The answer is D (rising) and these are called reduced relative clauses. I can make a video about this but not until next month. In the meantime, try this video about reduced relative clauses th-cam.com/video/d-0T4GozCJ8/w-d-xo.html
      Do you have a good grammar book that you use to learn grammar step by step?
      Finally, it is normal to forget the grammar that you learn. Do you have a way to practice grammar? Do you have people with whom you can speak English and practice?
