    Thanks for a thorough review of the K29. Thoughts on the K29 vs the Tempus. Do you use the Tempus for long runs?

    • @oldmanvanrunning
      @oldmanvanrunning  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey David!...I think the Tempus is clearly a more versatile stability shoe. That being said, my long runs (16 +) are generally easy so I tend to reach for shoes like the Gel-Kayano 29 or Glycerin GTS 20. I wouldn't have any qualms using the Tempus for long runs, however. If I could only purchase one stability shoe right now for all types of runs, it would probably be the Tempus.

    I got the Kayano Lite 3 instead the Gel-Kayano 29 and I had to break the foam for around crazy 10 miles ! After that the shoe became a total gem in confort and very nimble.
    But the feeling of the foam is super soft and delightful but it is different from the Flyte Foam Blast plus of my Gel-Nimbus 24. I prefer the Blast plus and I wonder if I would have liked even more if I bought the Gel-Kayano 29 instead.
    Anyways, I overpronate a bit and it is good to have at least one stable running shoe in my rotation to give my ankles some time up.

    • @oldmanvanrunning
      @oldmanvanrunning  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Miracle! Thanks for checking out my video!...Haven't tried out the Kayano Lite 3, but can say the Gel-Kayano 29 midsole is getting better with more miles. It's still heavier and warmer than my other stability shoes, but I am enjoying it more. I can see myself reaching for it more as the weather gets colder.

They felt a bit tight and my left arch hurt a bit at the beginning, but after about 5 min they were feeling pretty good. I think I just need to break them in. They felt a bit bouncy which was nice :^) and also no foot pain the next day unlike my older shoes. I’m looking forward to continuing to try them out, I’m trying to train to improve my 5k time. How does it compare to the Guide 15? Specifically the comfort and midsole cushioning. Thanks.

    • @oldmanvanrunning
      @oldmanvanrunning  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Beast Mode! Thanks!.....The Guide 15 is significantly lighter, firmer, and has a thinner upper. Also the Guide is a bit narrower in the toe box. I find the Gel-Kayano 29 is a much warmer shoe on the foot and in some ways, the upper is over-built to me. Both are comfortable, but my preference is the Guide 15 outside of the firmer midsole. In that regard, the Guide is better suited for short to mid-distance runs at varied paces as it's more responsive, while the Gel-Kayano 29 is better suited for easy runs and has enough cushion for longer runs. Hope this helps.

  • @abruenin236
    @abruenin236 ปีที่แล้ว

    For me, the Kayano 29 is one step forth and two steps back. I really loved the 28, which was perfect for me. The first kilometers with the 29 gave me a wow effect. But then I noticed, that my feet were moving around in a little, enough to have some friction which became uncomfortable. The next run, l locked them tighter, but that became even more uncomfortable and still my feet were moving in the shoes. It was as if the midsole under my feet was constantly moving, rubbing, creating some friction. I did not get blisters, but a wound feeling under my forefoot. And for me, it is also too much padding around the heel. That also has been better with the 28.
    I could not feel any advantage of ffblast+, but what they have really improved was, that I found it easier to speed up a little compared to the older model. So there is definitely some improvement, but it gives me wound feet. I will sell mine and try something else, maybe the Puma Foreverrun. Unfortunately, the Kayano 28 are out of stock here.

    • @oldmanvanrunning
      @oldmanvanrunning  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Argumon! Your experience with the Gel-Kayano 29 is very similar to mine, unfortunately. Although the 28 was a bit more narrow in the midfoot, I enjoyed that shoe much more. I've been considering trying the Puma shoe you mentioned, so maybe I will now!

    • @abruenin236
      @abruenin236 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@oldmanvanrunning I gave them a 2nd chance and ran some 5k's in them. I locked them down to the lower strap holes, which made the fit better. And I need to correct myself, a/b comparing them to the 28, the FFBlast+ seems to be softer than the older FFBlast, at least in my 1 yr old Kayano 28's. But maybe this is part of the problem, they are so soft under the forefoot, when they compress it creates more room so the feet can move inside the shoe. And yes, as you wrote, the 28 was narrower.
      So after a few weeks, I don't see them as bad as in my first impression. But overall, it is the biggest disappointment from Asics in years.
      I would love to hear your opinion on the Puma Foreverrun and will take a look at your videos on the Kayano lite and the Guide, many thanks for these.

    I have wide, odd-size feet.
    I read and saw some really good things about the Novablast 3. So went ahead and bought it.
    Mistake.
    My feet hurt like hell the morning after a 5k. I was gutted because I really liked the shoes on the surface.
    So I went back to the store and bought the Gel Kayano 29.

      So went for a 5k run to break them in. So far, I'm glad I made the switch. The extra room on the toe box makes the shoe right for my feet. Also, the shoe is very well padded.

    • @oldmanvanrunning

      Hi philippe! I don't think it was due to the rocker in my case. I have a number of shoes with more pronounced rockers and have never had an issue. Personally, I think it's more due to the fit and sockliner in the forefoot. It has settled down over time, though.

    Hi, Van, did I understand correctly, that K28 was a better shoe for you? I found both quite cheap here in Bangkok, but K28 is cheaper by $15 and it's even more tempting. Adding to that, what I understood from the review, is that they've made the support less in K29, than it was before and I rely on that sturdiness to keep my overpronation corrected. Thinking, what would be the better option in your opinion.

    • @oldmanvanrunning
      @oldmanvanrunning  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You are correct, Sir! I do like the 28 better than the 29. The primary reason is the upper (thick and hot) and hot spot issues. As for support, the 29 is not far off from the 28, so I don't think that should be an issue. I will say the 29 has slightly more room in the midfoot and toebox than the 28, but for me it wasn't an issue.

      Hi Kessarin! Thanks for checking out my review!....I haven't had any issues after that first run with hot spots/blisters. I think this is a shoe that requires some break-in in the sock liner. • @kessarinkullaphatkanon3695
      @kessarinkullaphatkanon3695 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi
      I find that no.29 has nothing protruding & bothering my arch, unlike no. 27 (I am neutral, but I like stability shoes).
      I m a heel-striker. W my running pattern, the sole of no 29 is great ! And the energy passing from heel to mid foot is very smooth. The mid sole of 29 is more bouncing than no.27. This no.29 is also a bit lighter than no.27 (women, size 9).
      I m just a casual runner, so I dont expect my shoes to be extremely bouncing or light but I prefer something making me feel that my feet, ankles are well-protected - keep me from an injury...
      I felt a bit nervous when I stood on Nova blast (too high, and its heel is narrow) but w no.29, i feel that there is a solid "frame" supporting around my feet.
      I have long been a loyal fan of Kayano. I switched from Nike to Kayano 15 and never switched back.
      The price tag of no.29 in Bangkok is quite high but the promotions from the store and Asics TH are very helpful (i got nearly 25% on top discount).
      In general, I enjoy running in no.29. It now makes me hesitate to get Arahi 6 of Hoka :-)

    • @oldmanvanrunning

      @@kessarinkullaphatkanon3695 Although the Arahi 6 is a good shoe that I enjoy, from a durability standpoint, I believe the Gel-Kayano 29 is the better choice, and will be easier on the feet and ankles.
