    Thanks for sharing your honest review update OMV. Your review of the Asics Gel Kayano 28 and then the 29 made me want to give them a try. I used them for walking I found the 29 a noticeable nice upgrade from the 28's. It's very different than your use but they work for me. Thanks for your in depth look at every shoe you review it sure is very helpful. I found for me having a variety of different running shoes makes me want to keep exercising and be more active gives a different feel for each one. Deciding which one to try next is another story.. Maybe I have too many shoes. haha oh well. Thanks buddy.

      Hey Jericho300! I agree that the 29s are a great option for walking, and would be a top pick for me. Glad they are working out well for you!...They're still a good running shoe, and I will try to get at least 300 miles in my pair....I couldn't agree more about having a variety of running shoes. Another main benefit is to reduce the risk of injury by working muscles differently from shoe to shoe....If you think you have too many shoes, I'm currently rotating 10 pair!! 😂
      Thanks again for your support! 👍😎👍

    I recently started running and was recommended the Kayano 29. Soon after I have discovered the Saucony Triumph 20 and that shoes has taken over as my main running shoes. I moved the Kayano over to long distance walking role, and it's been great for me in that role. The more solid heel feels stable as the foot lands and the plush FF Blast+ in the forefoot area feels nice as I push off. It's the best feeling walking shoe I ever had.

      Hey Watch and Things! Thanks for checking out my video!....You make a great point! I agree that the 29 would be an excellent walking shoe. Similarly, I panned the Adidas Solarglide 4 ST for running, but it's turned into my favorite walking shoe. I am considering ordering and reviewing the Triumph 21 as soon as it's available.

    Bill -- Thank you for this review. I totally agree with your comments as they relate to YOUR smooth stride and fast pace. For me, however, this shoe is perfect. I have two pairs sitting here right now, one for dirt trails and a "clean pair" for roads. You said the shoe is "clunky" -- well, I am "clunky" too -- I don't have the smooth, fast stride that you have. Years ago I went to a running podiatrist when I had such severe knee pain that I could not run more than three miles without pain. He analyzed my gait and measured the flexibility of my foot and leg joints. He determined I had a loose 'floppy' left front foot, and needed strong stability running shoes -- so either Brooks or the Asics Gel Kayano were "assigned" to me by the running doctor. I went from pain at three miles to being able to run the New York City Marathon ten months later. So - this shoe is my hero. Also, after a lifetime in my native hot-weather Los Angeles, I moved to New York City in September 2021 -- so as I get used to your East Coast winters, a shoe that is "too warm" will work just fine for me in these cold winters! For your needs and ability, I really "get" your criticisms of this shoe. For me the Gel Kayano has been the difference between being out running or sitting on the couch with painful legs. Merry Christmas, Bill or Van or Old Man -- not sure what to call you!!

      Hey Cathy! That's great! Glad the 29 works for you, and would definitely agree that it is very supportive. I pronate, and this shoe is great for controlling it. So far they have been decent but after less than a year I start to get blisters on the side of my foot after 7 + mile runs. I have these shoes, im a neutral foot runner, so i don´t really need stabilidy that much, although i do prefer it, i have the Nimbus 24s, and the new Nimbus 25s which are very cushy, however sometimes i just want something that feels comfortable, and not so squashy or plush, and so i reach for these, i like the upper but i don´t know what the upper on the 28s was like so i can´t compare, it is a warm shoe, not so breathable so it is good for cold days for sure. its always great to see your reviews.

    Hi Old Man Van, I'm new to running and currently weigh around 250lbs and 185cm tall. Would you recommend Kayano 29 or Kayano Lite 3 or Brooks Glycerin GTS 20 or Saucony Guide 15 for breatheablity (I live in Malaysia) and good support? All I can do now is slow run and my current shoe is Nike Vomero 16 which doesn't help that I pronate quite a lot. Planning to get 2 pairs for rotation and to run more frequently with the goal of signing up for half marathon next year. Hope to get some of your insights. Thank you.

      Thanks for the question! 👍 There are some very good options out there. The Saucony Guide 15 and 16 are very supportive, breathable, and somewhat versatile. For more cushioning while also being very supportive and pretty breathable, the New Balance Vongo V5 is an excellent option....I love the Brooks Glycerin GTS 20 as well, but it's not as supportive as the shoes I listed. This is a great review, what I understand kayano 29 might not be the best for half marathons. I hear you saying “Kayano 29 is not really a great shoe”.. so which is the best alternative? It seems you are a Glycerine GTS 20 fan, how about Saucony Tempus? Your recommendation if I need to choose one.. I need highest protection, and targeting a time of 2 hours for 21kms (not a fast runner 😂)..

    • @oldmanvanrunning
      @oldmanvanrunning  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sovan! I would recommend the Glycerin GTS 20 over the Gel-Kayano 29 for someone who wants high cushion and support for a half marathon, and is more concerned with comfort than pure speed. If you need mild to moderate support but want a lighter and more responsive shoe that is still well-cushioned, the Saucony Tempus is the best option. Other decent options would be the Hoka Arahi 6 and the Saucony Guide 15. Both have very good support, but the Guide 15 is a bit firmer than the others.
