Motivation Madness the background music is highly unnecessary and ruins all of your hard work for this video

Didn't need the back ground music. It really takes away from what Dr. Peterson is teaching. Good work. The background noise undid all you strove for.

    • @Jacco0
      @Jacco0 6 ปีที่แล้ว +34

The background music actually helps me quiet my mind and actually listen to what he has to say while conceptualizing it abstracticaly (is that a word? I'm not an English native speaker). So to me, well done on the background music, it kind of made it a psychilogical trip to me! A journey if you will.

How come you don't simply suggest people bookmark it or go to it later in their watch history?
It's because of the bias involved in being the uploader of this video.
Jordan Peterson would want you to question that bias.

    • @48956l

God the fact that your first suggestion is to like this video is frankly pathetic.

Dr. Petersen, I am a 61-year-old woman. I am reading '12 Rules to Life An Antidote to Chaos". I am also doing your Self Authoring program. I have also watched almost everything of yours on TH-cam. I have had the weirdest life. I cried many times reading your book. It has just been so personal to me. So I just want you to know, if you don't already, that your 'demographic' of people listening to what you have to say is expanding. I am beginning to think much clearer as I work through the self-authoring program. You are not just speaking to young university students who are mostly male. I want to thank you for what you have done for me. It has been life-changing and transformative. I had been beaten up so much that I just couldn't revive myself anymore. But that has changed and my spirit is coming back and I'm becoming more articulate. I think you are having a great impact on the future, helping to eliminate suffering. God bless you.

consider making online notes like OneNote Write a ton of important stuff in it - I have a lot of super densed information there from growing children to my current tasks, values I might kind of forget, geography, career.
Like with children I have the rule of avoiding OneUpping much more than grownups(gives them confidence and value issues) but still show that growing them is hard in some way so they become more appreciative of me and their friends, lovers later in life - something I might kind of forget if I go with the flow too much.

@@hemantbanik7493 Parents will almost always have an experience similar to what the kid is bragging or telling about. (E.g. son is saying that he was winning a lot of bets lately. The father says an example of him doing it more/earning money through it etc.).
Doing too much of this is bad in any relationship. But when you do it to your kid he's likely going to see that he's not only normal. But that he's stupid/bland/etc, that he may just as well give up.
Similarly there are lots of examples where my parents had dismissed me, made me stay silent where they would not as adults. E.g. I could not say I didn't like how the hairdresser cut my hair, my mom got mad at me and says I should just say thanks. This is still a bit too strong in me now, if a person you're going to pay can't fallow your instructions you should tell it and possibly demand to fix it. If my mom at least said something like, the haircut is good, you can complain when you grow up a little. It probably would've been better.
This is also how grownups often have irrational fears of dark/some animals/etc...

      @Brockt87 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

True story! The more we accept responsibility for ourselves & our life, and start focusing on bettering everything we can control the better we become & life completely transforms in unbelievable ways fairly quickly.
Even if starting from scratch, & income & education take a while in the beginning to get where we want it, but after we have a strong base it happens fast & it’s so much easier to grow in that area significantly so much more quickly the higher we build that pyramid.
Quality of life can improve surprisingly fast, though often in just 2-3 weeks after taking complete responsibility, in my experience & those I’ve coached.
Ironically it’s doing all the the things we thought we didn’t want to do, that creates happiness, character, self esteem, quality of life etc.

Some on the right even argue that fascism was really a leftist movement, or that leftists are the real fascists. The truth, though, is that rabid anti-communism and red-baiting can lead people who allegedly oppose fascism into a fever swamp of anti-Semitic conspiracy theories and alt-right hate. To understand how this can happen, you have only to look at the career of Jordan Peterson.”

Even though the amount of suffering in the world seems like an overwhelming obstacle. It is amazing that there are so many tools available to us to actually work on ourselves and get through tough times. For example, In the 90s ppl going through the hard times of mid-life and relationship issues they had nothing. Maybe some books but nothing like this. We suffer hard nowadays but we have the tools at our fingertips to heal hard as well. My gf of 18 and half years just broke up with me about a week ago. And though the darkness was real initially, motivational videos from this channel gave me the soothing words and hard love advice I needed to hear. Woke up today feeling like things are lighter and brighter. Thank you for helping to get me and everyone else suffering through those tough times.

External forces that are legally allowed to trigger your dopamine responses and addict you to their interface have silently taken over the masses minds. Hell, it's a struggle for me on a daily basis with video games. Can't tell you how many times I've spent 4-5 hours a night playing when I could have been listening to this and on every other night doing something more towards reaching my dreams. I wonder if I can be happy working towards my future.. my goals.. not like a 9-5 but projects that would benefit me personally.. I’m gonna find out if my life feels better doing that, and maybe I’ll start cutting the hours of gaming that I’ve been doing for so many years.

If you've already started to see the benefit from not having it in your life, it can only get better right?! Since commenting on this, I've spent one night playing for only about an hour / hour & a half, the other nights were spent doing something productive (whether it be educational, for some money on the side, or for enlightenment).
There's been some progress in the right direction, but it takes time and consistency. What I have noticed is a better mood at night and especially in the morning. Not a feeling of dreading how much there is ahead to do, but excitement for the opportunity to tackle another day of progress.
Quitting my 9-5 several months ago has actually been a huge catalyst for me in recognizing my bad habits and started the process of creating better ones.
I think we both know that it will feel better in 20-30 years when we see the result from this positive lifestyle change, if we really commit to it. As Jordan mentions early on in this video, "You can forestall gratification now, and it will payoff at a time that doesn't even exist yet!"

I am a 57 year old man. I came across Dr. Petersons content only a few months ago - I can't remember how, I wasn't looking for it. In fact I am generally suspicious of people giving life advice, on any platform. But Dr. Peterson is giving more than advice really. What he is doing is reminding us of things we have always known and, in doing that, giving us the courage to shake off the detritus that we have gathered, accept the things we have done that we cannot change and clear our vision and get back on the path. I bought 12 Rules... just the other day and I am reading it too. Although I have say that I have always been very good at making my bed, keeping my room(s) tidy! 🙂
Over the last years (probably since about 2004!) I have come to realise that my life isn't right, it feels like things have been slowly falling apart for quite a long time. I used to be a confident, focused and driven person. But demons (I Guess you'd call them) I have been carrying around for a very long time have really helped me to sabotaged myself really. I'm not afraid to admit that here or to admit that my personality, the toolkit I have developed over my life, only seemed to have one way of dealing with it. And I recently realised what I have been doing (banging my head against a brick wall!) wasn't working and I didn't really know what to do. Good god, it's taken me long enough to look up and see! I am determined to make the rest of my life the best it can be, to find a responsibility, to take courage, face my fears and follow a dream, a passion, I have always had so that my light shines as brightly as possible.

We are as the yin-yang, perfect balance of Light & dark - well, the "perfect balance" part is up to us & free will. That's what 3D life is all about. We go a long way toward awakening, though, when we allow the dark to just be what it is - the absence of Light - not some great monster-filled space of danger. IOW, it's okay, even great that we contain both. 😲

I cant help but imagine how much better my life could have turned out if Id have been fortunate enough to stumble upon Dr. Petersons teachings when I was a teenager.
In a similar sense I feel overwhelmingly happy I've found him still early in my life. In an astoundingly short amount of time my life has improved tremendously, and although my mind is still a slew of problems and depression I'm certain I will only continue to improve. God bless.

"If you're constantly in a state of placidity, satisfaction and happiness, then nothing is going to affect you deeply enough. Not your own suffering, not the suffering of other people, not injustice, not the horrors of the world. Nothing's going to affect you deeply enough so that you'll become deep. And life without depth is by definition, shallow and meaningless and there's a problem that's associated with that... because life is tragic and because life involves suffering if your philosophy is shallow and meaningless when you suffer, you'll become resentful, and hostile, and self critical and then you'll become cruel, and destructive."

I find that an alien's race called Goauld from "StarGate" - old SF tv show is literary the finished work of this one psychic process described here :) They could be seen as mythical horrors from space :) During their exploration of the space they wanted everything, they ruled everything, at the last they owned everything and in the process of conquering and owning everything - so having all the means to be happy and placid - including the technological devices for making them immortal - they become not empathic psychopats, cruel and destructive. Becouse they havent allowed themselves the chance to endure any obstacle and any pain and any sacrifice and any hardship.

This quote is really true. It's like trying to ignore reality for what it really is because either you try and run away from it and life in fear or indulge more in the things you want and look away while probably still being over critical about the world and the suffering around them. Instead the goal should be: take your responsibilities and do care and interact with your own suffering and others. It will automatically give depth and meaning to anything we do.

When you say, “of our time”...to what time period do you refer? Because if you want to talk about truly great minds in the so-called modern era, none come close to Nikola Tesla. His teacher was within and it showed him how the Universe works.
Tesla was very respected by those who weren’t out to profit from his work. He was a responsible adult who managed to hold on to his inner child. He is said to have died a virgin because he dedicated his life to making the world a better place for humanity. But the very same people, who have designed the system that destroys imagination, also destroyed Tesla.

33 here. I thought I was in a minority, but apparently I'm in the average 😅 shows the state of the age where we are learning these things so late in life.
That said, This man has changed my life. In some ways at first glance it's in some bad ways, but they all add up to a sum that is elevated far above where I was even a year ago... its never to late to teach an old dog new tricks. It created havoc in my life listening to him, but it bettered me once I resolved long ignored issues. Even right now I'm in tears over one of the largest changes in my life, but this man made it possible for me to analyze the problem and over come it in a way I never thought possible. I wouldn't even be alive or free of addiction at this moment if it weren't for the words this man speaks. I can over come anything given the right thought from this man or time to think for myself compiling all he has taught me.
I hope his life gets better, he deserves to have the strength of those he helps.

Having experienced this myself around her age, I knew what it was & was able to help her somewhat. Later, I played her JP’s piece when he says the psychological profession is neck deep in the pathology of telling people “you’re ok as you are”. As she listened to him telling us that his audience knows that’s crap & that many are suffering so much they can hardly endure it & that accepting you’re a mess but that you don’t have to remain like that being a positive message, I could almost hear the penny dropping. There is something for almost everyone if you only listen. And thank you,
