The hardest lesson for me to learn as a builder was that terrain is just as important, if not more important, than the structure itself. I got pretty good at building structures and even when I meticulously detailed them and put bushes and trees around them, they still never looked finished. It wasn't until I started playing around with terraforming that I finally discovered the missing ingredient. The portal and the terrain surrounding it are gorgeous. Well done.

This has become my favorite Minecraft series. Love your relaxed approach, and the way you talk through your approach to builds without showing every single step. As a relatively inexperienced Minecraft player, I feel it helps me learn building techniques way more than following a step-by-step guide.
The portal looks amazing and I love the on/off switch! How about some other ruined stone pillars or something that hints that there were ancient structures that have fallen and broken away over time?
I am very happy to have found your LP, as this style of a slower paced gameplay is what I have found for myself as well in recent years of playing minecraft. I found that I would make a new world, speedrun until I had an elytra, spam some mediocre builds without a plan, rinse and repeat. The art of taking things slow is actually what brought back the challenge and the joy to my worlds after seemingly having learnt all about the game. I very much appreciate what you have going here and I wish you best of luck with sharing your vision!
Incredible builds and vibes, Matt! I appreciate that you try to maintain beauty in your world while resource collecting. No shade to anyone who plays differently, it’s just nice to see someone who plays like myself in that respect. 😊
This is a very interesting and educational build. I had not previously thought about building a switch to turn Nether portals on and off. Thanks for sharing one way that might be done. Unfortunately, the dark blocks near the dispensers make them more visible. Placing them on the front side instead of the back might hide them better. Your idea about using multiple pressure plates would make the single plate less obtrusive, but then you'd have to be careful not to step on more than one of them as you're going up or down. You might consider using a calibrated skulk sensor instead - it could be used as a proximity sensor, detecting your footsteps as you approach or leave. The redstone circuitry might need a delay to avoid turning the portal on and off in quick succession though. I like the block palette - I have been reluctant to use powdered concrete, gravel and sand to highlight my builds, but you are pushing me out of my comfort zone, and that's a good thing. Keep up the good work!
Yea I also thought about the skulk sensor instead of a plate but I was worried about being able to control it plus I am NOT ready to go to the scary deep dark yet lol!
@@MrMattRanger Yes, building the redstone circuit for a waterlogged calibrated skulk sensor might be tricky - you don't want the portal flickering off and on repeatedly as you approach it or walk around in the area. You want it to stay lighted until you either walk away from it or pass within. By the way, you might also consider adding a somewhat hidden override switch so that you can turn the portal on or off manually. As for the deep dark: bear in mind mobs do not spawn there - you only have to worry about tripping skulk shriekers too many times. Potions of Night Vision are a great help to exploring the deep dark, and all you need is one or two skulk sensors and some amethyst shards. I hope you are eventually able to employ a skulk sensor for the portal - having it light up without openly visible instrumentation would be magical!
I appreciate how you break out your color palette of a build. Also I love how un-optimized you play. No shield, just hanging out. Great video and very inspiring to take the game more like a game and not an over-optimized speedrun
There is a fine line between a boring video and a relaxing/soothing one that is also fun, my god are you a master in the latter. Loving this series keep up the good work.
I just found your channel, and I'm so glad I did. I love the relaxed vibe. It's a breath of fresh air after being flooded by the fast edit and chaotic pace I see in many other Minecraft players. And you've got such an eye for building! That Nether Portal is really stunning. Clever, too. Well done, sir. Well done.

Thanks Fyer! Life has definitely changed a lot for me over the last two years making twitch much harder for me to do. I am happy to be able to creative this type of content here on TH-cam now.
I think you shouldn't connect the cliffs on the right side of the portal. I think it should stay a valley and that you instead build a little hanging bridge over to the other cliff and maybe set up a small camp on that cliff where you can have a little storage area, bed and a cozy campsite. Would also be a good place to store stuff you need when entering the nether so you wouldn't have to go back to your base everytime you wanna visit the nether and forgot something at base. Oh and also Bushes and trees around the portal and the pathway would look so great and go with the overgrown style.
Every time I saw one of your thumbnail, I was like: "Hey, a new video from Bdub". Took me awhile until I saw your name. LOL. I like watching your video too. You always finish the interior in the same episode (so far) and it always looks good 😆

I've always wanted to make a fancy, automatic portal. Never done it though. With the dispensers, couldn't they be on the bottom of the portal? Also, how did you stop the water going everywhere?
Yes they could be located on the bottom but i didn’t want to have them be visible at all which is why I put them at the top. As far the water the redstone gets two quick pulses so it goes in and out before the water has a chance to go everywhere.
