I got TH-cam Music to play laggy music videos in a group with the 'move the music' casting feature. Started a music video on my phone app, casted it to my chromecast, and then asked my google assistant in my living room hub to move the music to my 'Hub Group', a speaker group of Nest Hubs around my house that now includes my chromecast. The first video will play no problem and the second video is noticably laggy. And if you try this trick on your Netflix app Google will tell you it 'Doesn't work for Netflix'... 🤨🤔✍️
I'm not really understanding what impact the Bluetooth capability has on the ability to do sync video with audio on different devices. If Google is able to send simultaneous audio to everything over WiFi, why can't video be included in that as well? I understand there may be latency differences, but I'm sure that could be compensated for. Anyway, good video, thanks for explaining it. :)
Have they fixed the sync issue yet? It’s funny how they are all google products and they don’t work well. AppleTV doesn’t do this kind of issue. I just bought the googletv and 2 mini gen2 to try it out because it’s cheaper than the Apple products.
What a lost opportunity for Google. Having compatibility with Chromecast GTV and nest devices is a perfect opportunity for Google to take over in the the home theater industry. Hope they get this up and running, would love to have a few hidden nest speakers working together as a 5 or 7 speaker setup.

Shouldn't have to use Bluetooth at all. It should let you select a speaker group as the default sound playback device and remember that setting between reboots. Anything else is just a bodge job (UK Terminology!).
As always, Brett, I loved the thoroughness of your video. It's disappointing the Google has still not addressed this video/audio issue. Amazon has had a home theater solution for a while now, and I'm disappointed the Google has not kept up. Hopefully, they will get their act together soon if they want to stay competitive.
This is such a missed opportunity for Google and could be integrated natively. However, I can see that connection reliability would be a big con and the lack of physical audio ports on the speakers would make this hard to negate.
From the technical side it sounds like a nightmare. I have always wanted a 3.5mm jack on them to help support this but I think with how good the Nest Audio pair sounds it could totally be done with just the speakers.
@@TechWithBrett I've been looking at getting a pair of nest audio speakers. Was wondering if the pairing would sound better than a single Google Home Max. That's why I was looking if Google speakers could be the audio out for the new Chromecast then it would probably be an easier sell. But I wouldn't say that the Bluetooth work around is a viable option. Especially if I would have to ask the pair to connect via Bluetooth each time I turn off the Chromecast.
@@RamsayandClements , to my ears a Nest Audio stereo pair sounds better than a single Home Max. Beyond getting good stereo separation, the high and mid ranges are noticeably cleaner. I can hear tiny, subtle details in music that usually require good headphones to notice. The big downside is weak bass. It's actually amazingly good for such small speakers, but it still lacks oomph on the low end. I'm considering getting a Chromecast-enabled subwoofer and putting it into a speaker group with the Nest Audio stereo pair. If anyone has recommendations, I'd love to hear them!
This is the closest we've gotten, so great, but... I'm still shocked Google hasn't prioritized making a seamless experience between their audio products and their video products. Like... I just want my video to stream to my Chromecast and my audio to stream to my speakers and my Chromecast. The same technique used to sync audio across multiple speakers can be used with a TV speaker, which would take care of video syncing. Is it really more technically challenging than that? Please, Google!
This is nuts. I should be able to stream something on my chromebook, hub, and Chromecast, w all my speakers. Specifically thinking of live events that I don't want to pause or miss any audio. Which is often over TH-cam.
To anyone reading this now. This now works out of the box. You can group your speakers to your Chromecast in the app and have the sound play on the group. No need for Bluetooth. All speakers play the same sound though, unless you have a paired set for left and right. so no true surround options yet.
Did you send a report and feedback to Google? Why I ask is because when we are dealing with something like BLE/Bluetooth connection, it suppose to work normal once both devices uses the same codex and the low latency is usually fixed with software updates. It's nothing complex like zigbee, VoIP etc.
So I directly reached out to Google about the Pixel Buds a week ago and they must have fixed some of the issues since I sent that in. My other question is what Bluetooth version is on the Google TV. Its specs state "Bluetooth" and the Nest Audio is Bluetooth 5.0. Every who does want this should use the "Send Feedback" command with Google Assistant.
There is a latency for Nest Audio stereo pair, because it streams 1 channel of Bluetooth to one speaker, then it uses Chromecast (via Wi-Fi) to sync to the other Nest Audio. I tried this setup before with a LG TV with dual bluetooth out channel, so pair 2 Nest Audio (not in a pair), both directly to the TV, and there's almost no latency.
I got it to work with music videos that are only launched from the YT Music app on my phone. It would not work from the regular TH-cam app only the music mobile varient.
Can confirm as of the latest update there is 0 delay when watching movies on Plex with the Chromecast with Google TV and a first generation Google Home Mini. (5Ghz network)
very good video to try and pass the time, but I do not understand why Google has not released that feature officially. even Apple does it with IKEA speakers.

Is the Disney+'s Bluetooth issue across all Bluetooth speakers or just to Nest Audio? I been using 1 Bluetooth speakers with the new google chromecast and Disney+'s sound works.
I like using my AirPods with my TV. When I’d connect them to my Fire TV, they’d connect but there’d be no volume control. With Chromecast with Google TV, there’s volume control and they sound louder than they did on the Fire TV... but they don’t stay connected. If I pause on Netflix, they’ll disconnect and I’ll have to forget the AirPods and reconnect them. It’s such a hassle. On top of that, I wanted to use my Nest Hub Max as a subwoofer for my Chromecast but it looks like there’ll be latency or lack-of-support (e.g. DIsney+). I’ll try it myself since, like you said, YMMV. Thank you for making this video, this is something I actually really care about but it’s a super obscure thing to find - at least for me.

Yep, still not able to do it. I've been trying to connect a Chromecast Ultra plugged into a spare monitor to a pair of Nest Minis to use as speakers while playing Stadia, streaming tv, etc... no dice. This seems like it's a no-brainer, but as usual, Google has apparently moved on to something else.

With the Max speakers, it's easier to use an Aux cable, but you can't use one AND have two Max speakers paired (it will cause a huge delay). Use a L and R splitter for a two speaker system, but one does great already. Another downfall of the Max speakers is that they will stop audio playback when the playback gets really quiet (like just before a jump scare).
Even though it's not the main topic, thanks for letting me know I can pair with my pixel buds pro. I didn't even realize the Google TV has blue tooth. I watched the rest of this video with earphones on. It has occasional minor sound delay on first playback, similar to when connecting to phones sometimes, but pausing and playing video seem to fix it.
Also if you are bluetoothing from Chromecast with google tv. To a google home/nest speaker You can go to the google home app media section and add more speakers.
I was about to get these for my TV and I just assumed that it would work with my chromecast seamlessly and over wifi!!! Definitely not doing that now. Thanks Brett
UPDATE: Can confirm this works! Go mess with this setting and you can fix the delay, woo! Idk if this will help, but if you go into the Google Home app on your phone, go to the speaker group, click setting, and scroll all the way down, there is a tab called "Group Delay Options" . Click that, and you can mess with the audio delay when connected to Bluetooth devices. Ill try it out once I get the new chromecast!
@@纽约霹雳狗 I'll have to double check. After starting videos, adjusting the delay, then rewinding the video to adjust for audio, it seems to sync pretty much perfectly. Ill try all the same without adjusting the delay, see if it does anything. Im really enjoying using them so far though!

Is it possible to add an Bluetooth dongle to the TV in some way to connect ie to your TV? (nest audio connected (paired) with dongle, or standard "speaker") hope you understand my question
I have a Chromecast3 and a Chromecast for Google TV, I also bought 4 Nest wifi points and a Nest wifi router. The Nest wifi points also act as a speaker, they are loud and bass heavy, it is good enough to use one for the TV. However, you cannot cast from CGTV to a speaker except using Bluetooth protocol. This is a huge bummer.
I found a work around that works even if it's not optimal. I start Netflix on my computer and cast the sound to my Google speakers, then I use a hdmi cable to watch on my tv.
I don't understand why you can cast a music video to a Home Nest Max, then go to the nest home and click the cast and cast to a speaker group that includes the chromecast and the video will continue on the home max, and the Audio going to all speakers in the group including the chromecast having not just audio, but album art too. But try to send the music video to new chromecast and no way to send the audio to the speaker group
We are about to put a TV outside on the deck and have been debating for days now how we're going to get sound. The TV speakers just aren't loud enough to hear from where the seating is, and obviously outdoors we can't do a full receiver setup. We were just wondering if a chromecast paired to a Nest audio would work, so the speaker could be placed much closer to us than the TV. From your test it appears this is not a viable solutions at this time, so will definitely help in our decision making. Looks like for now we'll have to put a sound bar under the TV and just annoy our neighbors with how loud it is 😀
Yeah that is a pretty good option. The cheapest would be to get a Fire TV Stick and an Echo Dot as this function is supported and then you can plug in a speaker to the Echo Dot with 3.5mm jack.
Thanks for the info. I buy 2 minis and 1 nest thinking of create an "Home audio" for my projector and I expense 2 days trying to pair with GTV... what a mess.. I hope google can fix this
Hi Brett, thanks for your videos. I have exactly the setup you mentioned. Projector with the chromecast with google tv plugged in it and Google Home Max used for the audio. However, I have two problems: 1) I still need to shuffle with two volumes - on the chromecast and also on the Home Max. Is there any chance to just shuffle with one? E.g. when the projector is turned on the Max goes to 100% automatically and I can just use the remote to tweak the volume on the chromecast to the final level I want. I tried routines but not successful. 2) Right now I do the above mentioned manually. From the home app I set the volume on Max to 100% and then I adjust the volume on the chromecast to some final level either through app or using its remote. But later when I finish watching and turn the projector down, the volume on Max stays 100% which means that when I ask assistant to turn the lights down, it screams like crazy and wakes up my child. Do you have by any chance some advice on what to do? Thank you.
Thanks for testing. Disappointing that it won't work seamlessly, Chromecast w/ Google TV to a pair of Google Nest Audio speakers. They have work to do here.
connect a bluetooth dongle to the audio out from your TV and connect the Nest Audio to the dongle that way you don't have to worry about what sound setting the apps are using because you are getting the audio from the tv output
Appreciate this review and experiment. This is exactly what I needed to know. I wanted to optimize my google nest and chromecast with google tv. I guess it’s still best to have a separate home entertainment speakers.
what would be an alternative solution if I need a device to make my TV smart (suck as chromecast) and also I want to buy smart speakers that as well work as speakers for the TV?
@@PlanetNinetyTwo Yes you definitely can. Play audio form the echo dots and video in firetv stick. For over 3 years now!!!. I can't believe Google did not do this by now. I would have switch but I am to deep in the Googlr ecosystem

One thing I'd like to see is a speaker or headphones connected to a USB-C hub that has 3.5mm audio out. Your Anker hubs from your other vid don't have audio out, but I know there are plenty that do!
Thanks! Helped (Chromecast 4K and Home Mini stereo pair). Of course there are small lags, but not critical. And then my old, cheap TV sound is terrible, but now it's good.
lol.. sad that Google doesn't include these instructions on their page. I connected my Chromecast +TV to the Nest mini and kept disconnecting so I paired it with a Samsung Wireless Speaker and works like a charm. No delays or anything.
I had a Nest Audio that I wanted to use with my projector and chromecast but somehow bluetooth connection won't play audio on the nest audio. Pretty bummer, as I had hoped both Google products would function together. That they did not include the opportunity to cast via WIFI is a huge miss
I don't get it, in the video looks like he got the Google speakers to work with the tv but didn't show how they are connected, was it bluetooth or the chromecast group?
Hey Brett, after seeing your home I wanted to make mine like yours very badly. So i bought nest hub and a mini and few smart bulbs and Chromecast and so. Any recommendations on very cheap and affordable door alarm?
If you have smart view on your phone you can mirror your phone to chromecast and connect google home mini as Bluetooth speakers to your phone to have audio played on Google mini, if you have samsung phone it allows dual audio so you can have 2 speakers
I have had the same issues with a fire cube and echo studio setup.I have the new chromecast with google tv and used it with one of the echo studio speakers and that's fine. Can't use a pair though with sub.
Hi, I have the same problem. I have Google Chromecast 4.0, he is connected to a computer monitor. And I tried to send audio to google home speakers. The only option is bluetooth however, such a solution generates a considerable delay in sound :( Google, why are you doing this?
Super job as always. I was wondering if you can help with an issue, i have 2 Google speakers in 2 different rooms and if playing music on one and someone goes to play music on the other (say in the downstairs living room) the music will cut from the first speaker and redirect to the second. Have Spotify Duo set up and it does the same thing with that also. Does the person who uses the downstairs device (elderly mother) need to have a smartphone with her her own Google home app on it for the system to then become separate? Cant find the answer anywhere and you seem to know your stuff, cheers.

I think that adjustment is only adjust delay between each of speakers in paired group.
@@Official-Lupex i returned 2 nest audios because its terrible delay.😔so despoint.but i reorder 2 nest home max.hope that will be much batter
@@纽约霹雳狗 I hope those work for you! My Google Home Minis are working great. I have only used them with Netflix, TH-cam, and Hulu so far. Netflix was what had about a 2 second delay, but after rewinding and messing with the setting, it got much better. I hope you can use your new speakers when they come as well.
Thank you so much I've got it working with my projector with the old google max speakers.
Is it possible to add an Bluetooth dongle to the TV in some way to connect ie to your TV? (nest audio connected (paired) with dongle, or standard "speaker") hope you understand my question
I would like see your settings to add or repair the right channel.
Also wich device are you using?
Hi, do you know when we can expect update? Thanks. I have next but Bluetooth is not good..I think Amazon is doing better
I feel like I gave you a video idea 😉. Thanks. Until they have video groups I don’t see this as a feasible solution.
You maybe have started the flood of questions about this and so I had to bring it front and center.
Thank you for being straight forward! Appreciate it I subscribers purely for that
I found a work around that works even if it's not optimal.
You don't need Tidal with bose speakers bruh 😂
Just teasing, thanks for posting your videos you have helped me more than once!
However, I have two problems:
1) I still need to shuffle with two volumes - on the chromecast and also on the Home Max.
Thank you.
Pretty cool I didn't realize it'll work with Bluetooth earbuds! Gonna have to try it out!
My best youtuber in google tech
what would be an alternative solution if I need a device to make my TV smart (suck as chromecast) and also I want to buy smart speakers that as well work as speakers for the TV?
Been waiting years for Google to do this. If it doesn't happen soon I may have to switch to Amazon.
Does Amazon support this because if so I'm switching right away?
@@PlanetNinetyTwo Yes you definitely can. Play audio form the echo dots and video in firetv stick. For over 3 years now!!!. I can't believe Google did not do this by now. I would have switch but I am to deep in the Googlr ecosystem
My new tv now just bluetooth connects with the home speaker. But only 1. And my tv is connected to a soundbar. Sync them and done. But i wish i could make a whole speaker group. With all speakers. Like it does with the audio
Great video! One question: Would it be an ez solution to use the home max and connect it to the TV via 3.5mm AUX?
I was trying to do that but apparently google home max is out of stock. If you already have home max , that should work pretty well.
there's a audio setting in google home to enable sound in disney + . something to do with codec.
Thank you for this material. It is very helpful.
I don't get it, in the video looks like he got the Google speakers to work with the tv but didn't show how they are connected, was it bluetooth or the chromecast group?
Man, you are incredible. Thank you SO MUCH.
Hopefully that answered your question!
now it works with everything with no delay
You sure? Whats your setup
??
how?
3 years later update please. This seems to be working great for me with one Nest Audio
You are doing it over Bluetooth?
Hey Brett, after seeing your home I wanted to make mine like yours very badly. So i bought nest hub and a mini and few smart bulbs and Chromecast and so. Any recommendations on very cheap and affordable door alarm?
I was going to recommend Nest Secure but it looks like it isn't available. The best option is to get a SmartThings Hub for this.
@@TechWithBrett oh thanks Brett. Means a lot
is it good to create a theater system in a small room with this audio ??
If you have smart view on your phone you can mirror your phone to chromecast and connect google home mini as Bluetooth speakers to your phone to have audio played on Google mini, if you have samsung phone it allows dual audio so you can have 2 speakers
Great example Brett, I hope google did some changes. If they do I hope you do another video if new changes has come.
I am using Chromecast with my Google Home Max speaker connected to my TV through the audio jack. Muted my TV since the sound on Google is much better.
I have had the same issues with a fire cube and echo studio setup.I have the new chromecast with google tv and used it with one of the echo studio speakers and that's fine. Can't use a pair though with sub.
Did you test the 3 methods with Hulu? How was it?
Hold on a bit Brett, Yes it can. Then again i am in the uk, so maybe its different here, but i was wondering the something. i tried it, and it work.
The main reason I want it for is to reduce the amount of devices in my tv setup. My experience with Bluetooth is lag
Love the lego in the thumbnail.
Haha! It was the only way to get it to stand up without take years of Photoshop courses. Too bad I don't have a sky blue lego.
Thank you for amazing review. Just few minutes ago pair of Google Nest audio speakers arrived. I tried step by step how you showing in your review, unfortunately with no luck. Chromecast keeps looking for BT devices, unfortunately nothing has been found. Seriously thinking of sending them back, because like this they're useless to me.
Did you get it work finally?
Dear Brett,
I Was Wondering If You Could Make A Video On How To Connect Your Nest Audio's To Your Google Tv So I Can Hear My Shows From Them. I See You Have Some On Your Video Here. I've Got 2 Of Them. Thanks Bob
Hey Bob, as of right now there is still no way to do this. You can only create a stereo connection between the for music and can't pair them to your Chromecast for sound.
