Such an important and often neglected subject. Iron load is important to understand. PD Mangan is a great resource.

Fascinating! So many doctors are quick to prescribe an iron supplement.

I'm new to this blood donation, but I like what I'm hearing, does donating plasma have any similar benefits or only blood donations?

My ferritin came in at 22!
I've been donating whole blood quite consistently over the past decade.

I'm hearing more and more about metabolic health. It might become a future hot topic.

One other comment: I can also lower my serum iron via sweating. Sauna and exercise are another vector to add to the arsenal.

Thank you for your video. I have read that 1 in 3 people are iron deficient. I have to believe that that effects the "within normal ranges" on let's say Labcorp values. I recently had an iron panel drawn. My Ferritin was 155, Iron 191, Iron sat 62 , TIBC 308 (250-450), and UIBC 117 (flagged low). I posted these on a thyroid FB group and everyone freaked. So I immediately went the next day and donated blood. Now that I am doing further investigation I am wondering if these values are even of concern.... it is so hard to tell. I do eat red meat daily AND use cast iron to cook daily....

Okay how about intermittent fasting and maybe semi low carb diet for iron lowering?

How would that affect iron? Good for the other things PD mentions though.

My doctor laughed at me with a ferritin level of 520, and another telemedicine company wouldn't approve phlebotomy. I've resorted to doing it myself.
