Terraria could take a page from the dwarf fortress wiki and have a multiple variations of pages for different versions. Although I understand that’s probably a lot of effort.
you're right, but to be honest, Terraria is definitely a community that would put in the work!
The binding of Isaac wiki has variations of every single page that are accurate to what DLC you're playing on, and to not give spoilers
or they could just do the thing that literally every wiki does and keep a revision history. but that's too simple, you gotta cram all info ever into a single article.
I just learned about Terraria today, so first thing I did was find out where I can buy it. After going to the 14th page of Google search results, I found someone selling a used copy of the game on eBay, along with the Xbox 360 (from 2005) used to play it. Very excited to play! I sure hope the wiki has a ton of outdated info mixed in with relevant info!

I love wiki culture but this it more and more strongly become anti-edit over time. I see this same type of thing brewing on the Dwarf Fortress wiki mostly in the "community articles" type sections. Once someone adds something to a page, if it gets deemed as part of "community culture" in some way it basically never gets removed, like the piles of bad fan fiction cluttering various articles.

One of my favorite lines from the Terraria Wiki is, on the trivia for the Blindfold, "a real-life blindfold usually disables the wearer's sight instead of preventing sight-deteriorating effects." Like, wow, never would've thought!
They also seem to take everything Red says completely seriously, like on the Guide's page in the trivia it says "according to Redigit, the Guide is the Wall of Flesh, the brother of the ninja inside King Slime, the great-grandson of the Nymph, and the son of the Moon Lord. *It's unknown whether these statements are jokes."*
Like seriously???? You don't even need to look at the context of what Red said to know that him being the great grandson of the Nymph (not to mention while simultaneously being the son of the Moon Lord) is a complete joke, no one was supposed to take that seriously in the slightest
Family tree:
Nymph: 1 child
Child grows up, then makes bebe with moonlord, creating two beings: The guide, and the ninja.

I feel like half the people making the wiki were trying to make a linear guide to the best strategy and loadout for each section of the game, and the rest were trying to give a detailed account of every item available at each stage so that the players could read through the corresponding pages and pick a load out that works for them. Both of these are pretty valid strategies... but then neither side bothered to communicate their goals to the other and both parties gave up half way through.

Wow I didn't read that properly the first time
You weren't kidding, that was life changing
I swear if these people want to keep all pre 1.4 advice they just need a separate walkthrough for different versions of the game
High key surprised they don't do the dwarf fortress wiki style version changes
Separate wiki's more like. Have the normal wiki and then the horribly outdated one
They should do it like the binding of isaac wiki does where you have page versions for each different major release (in isaacs case: rebirth, afterbirth, afterbirth+, and repentance)
Being unwilling to remove outdated content because on a couple of platforms it might still be relevant is really weird when you could just simply make a dedicated page that is dedicated to those versions while keeping the standard one up to date and conflict free.
Great video as always, you're an extremely knowledgeable and passionate person and I hope that one day you'll get the attention that you deserve.
They could easily dedicate a "Patch changes" section like wow's wiki does to include changes from different updates though that involves reading ALOT of patch logs. Personally I think it's an effect of a shrinking community. A game with a large robust community rarely struggles with the wiki. A game with a small/shrinking community. Way back in 1.1 there was only 3 grapples in the entire game: the grapple, ivy whip, and dual hook. I would put money that every single mention of Ivy whip was written back before gem hooks were introduced in 1.2.
They also said that it's good because it has multiple hooks. The mechanic that pretty much nobody ever uses.

Ehh, it depends. In my opinion the best way to experience Terraria for the first time is to play it with a friend who has a little more knowledge of the game. Just because half the game's content is locked behind Hardmode, which is only hinted at in a single Guide tip that the player probably won't ever see because by that point in the game you wouldn't think to talk to the Guide anymore.

It's pretty hilarious that the wings are so undermined in the wiki. They are pretty much the one accessory that all the classes are going to be using. For harder bosses, its almost a requirement in my opinion.
Sure you can beat the game without wings, but you can also technically dump antimonic acid on your genitals and survive, doesn't mean its the optimal strstegy for victory.
Uhh.. No? You can beat the game on Legendary Getfixedboi with other wingless options such as Mechanic's teleporters/Grav potions/Fishron mount + Rod of Discord.
As for the optimal strategy, I guarantee that Grav potions are VASTLY superior to any wings vs Legendary Mechdusa.
And the teleporters make it so easy I consider using them cheese.
Other creative options are Railroads and a giant ocean with the Lava Shark mount, but these require patience to build.
Well, I'm personally tired of things like "this page is telling you about cintent existing on -pc -mobile -console -oldgen -newgen -64bit -128bit -quantom....." instead of "this content is not available on 3ds".
Even more confusing are all this icons on items existing on some versions. If you have a list, yust get it as "1 in 2", and as always with any "1 in x" it is just less convenient than "x in x". I recently looked something up and it said that you need atleast 100+ beenades for Mastermode and probably even expert and that made me realize that they are comletely overrated.
At that point just do the speedrunner strategy and use like 10 dynamite
@@julienbronsch5039 they are good for just classic mode pretty much since the hungry don't respawn from memory. They are like legit just useless for the fight expert mode up
You are very fun to listen to. Like, even unrelated to the voice (but it definitely helps!). Love your vids
Hearing the Medusa head even mentioned is crazy. I forget about it immediately after collecting it every playthrough
listening to this video and hearing everything that the wiki got wrong (which was basically everything besides the part about elauncher, it's still solid for moon lord) mentally damaged me
Let me fix that for you: you don’t have to use elauncher. Use Daybreak, Phantasm, Nebula Blaze and Firecracker with Stardust Dragon. That is all you need.
Wouldn't you need to keep the moon lord pretty much stationary for the electrosphere launcher to do anything useful?
@sorbetcafe somewhat? it's damage is still fine after the nerf and i don't think it was really necassary to say that it's that bad for ml but you can always just use phantasm anyways so it doesn't really matter
Fargo's eternity mode guides are more useful for vanilla, hell the mutant guide alone is better for fighting vanilla bosses, I feel like the best option would be split pages in two, one for current patch, one for legacy
do the thing the TBOI wiki has where you can select the dlc but for versions
*bundle of ballons is better than early wings and you can get it in pre hardmode 🤓🤓
I remember the ol' wiki DEMANDING the use of Dunerider boots and a sand platform just for the Eye of Cthulhu, abhorrent
Holy shit its the man Itself Waffletime
I still remember that video, t’was a funny experience
What a fuckin' time
@@1ndiebird truly the time of waffle.
Oh sh- oh god oh fu- it's the Waffle Time himself 😲😲
