Wow! Very impressive take on how you view these apps. Personally, I love both apps at almost the same level as I believe that they both have their pros and cons exclusive to them. However, I mostly use PDreams even with its lackluster features….i just feel at home there better than ToonSquid. Don’t get me wrong though, for I totally agree with your view on this but at the end of the, it’s all about perspective and preferences and also individual experience. No doubt ToonSquid top the charts with the most features, can’t dispute that. But for me, I just preferred PDreams more to work with and so far it serves me well…….though I still cry out for more features and I damn well scrutinize them harder at every chance I get. Good video and I love your voice 😂!

1:34 Ouch the sudden slander on FlipaClip is WILD….but yeah reasonable enough lol. Especially if you’re someone who gets easily irked by advertisements or an unremovable watermark after exporting (plus the limited layers was an issue before the implementation of “free after watching an add” alternative). I’m sort of a believer that it’s not fully the program to blame, it’s the skill set of the individual which determines quality. Anyone has the capability to make the most out of using a limited amount of available tools. The animators who still use Flipnote Studio are proof of it. But of course it is also important to be comfortable with the program you use, or else animating will just become frustrating and not fun. Anyways I enjoyed the video, was very informative and you have such a fun cartoony expressive artstyle. Mayhaps I will check out Toonsquid :))
Oh yeah flipaclip used to be the program i used, i made some very decent stuff on it. I always trash on it now because of the implementation of a subscription service. the app itself is fine for what it is but a subscription service? On flipaclip? I stopped using it because of that
@@AnimationonaBudget Oh yeah, that was definitely a bad move marketing wise. Can’t blame you for disliking it because I also think it’s a sucky change. Actually I believe before that point I had payed money for extra layers and no adds, however that feature was taken away from me once the subscription was implemented? I didn’t initially correlate the sub change as the cause, because at the time my iPad’s charging capabilities died and I had to get a replacement. Just thought I was unlucky screwed over by loosing the initial payed for version. It’s frustrating that programs get greedy after a while and loose sight of making animation accessible for those unable to afford mainstream software :/
@@hpthelonesomeartist gosh that sucks, I’m currently staring nervously at my 8 year old iPad hoping that it doesn’t die because I still have access to my “one time pay” for the full version of flipaclip lmao. Flipaclip is a good simple program, but absolutely INSANE that they had the audacity to put in a subscription service. There’s like,,,,, no tools?? At all?? And now I have to pay monthly for it??? I’ve used it to animate for years, but it truly is only worth ten dollars. I’m slowly migrating to toonsquid because flipaclip lag has also gotten much much worse since the newer updates.
Great video-I’m definitely a ToonSquid evangelist. Spread the word, because the ToonSquid guy doesn’t have the big marketing budget that Procreate has. Ever notice how much support and promotion Apple’s App Store gives to Procreate Dreams? Or how many skillshare courses there are for PD, with art influencers, meanwhile ToonSquid doesn’t have any??? There's one more good thing about procreate dreams apart from performance mode is that you can keyframe warp and some some effects like hsb/gaussian blur. But i literally didn't like how they sacrificed the most desired liquify option in dreams just because of 1m*1m canvas size which literally no one on earth uses.
Procreate dreams needs: 1. LASSO TOOL! 2.quickshape 3.oinion skin between groups 4. To not undo a billion things at once. 5. Stop undoing when I rest my freaking hand on my iPad! 6.STOP BEING SO BUGGY!! 7. And finally, learn from your older sibling procreate, ok dreams? they got it right.
Ive been working on a big project for the past 8 months, since Dreams came out, and found Ive been getting nowhere... might need to invest in toonsquid after watching this video... Ive never used ToonSquid before so im hoping I can get used to it quick, and hopefully their brush catalog is just as expansive as Procreate's. If not, I might need to import some assets from procreate and dreams into toonsquid
hiii so just a thing with brushes in TS, i dont think its AS expansive as proc but it still does a good job :] but photoshop brushes can import into TS ! (only a few tho, i think it was like 16 bit or less IDK)
Ah nuts. I hoped it would have something like Performance Mode. That's the main thing I need, major timesaver. Shame Procreate released it so half-baked. I'm still waiting for a freaking lasso-fill and marching ants selections in the OG... for like 6 years now :( Anyway your videos are great, thanks!
I am new in drawing animation and have done it with procreate, frame by frame, long steps but easy, and when I bought procreate Dreams: I find it soooo complicated for nothing and its sad that they did not add the most useful tools like in procreate. They should have done it as an additional package to add in Procreate but features that are way more helpful for frames by frames animation - i like the blurr effect tho really helpfull but I hate the fact to use your fingers and also the pixels 😅
No way…! I HAVE BEEN LOOKING EVERYWHERE FOR A APP LIKE THIS! simple. Easy layer option. CHOOSING HOW LONG A PICTURE LASTS WITH OUT THE DUMP FRAM SPEED! I believe you just found the app I have long search for…❤ (I’m down loading this as soon as possible.)
One thing that I really wish procreate dreams had was an editable curves function(AKA easings) The basic ones they offer are fine but I would love a way to make snappy tweens. Although coloring an animation my hand was both painful and satisfying. I don't really use the lasso tool the much anyways even when I'm normally drawing so that's probably why it doesn't bother me as much as it does for other people. I kind hate the fill bucket though. Like, why drag & drop? Why? On the occasion I use Krita I'm like: why do I have the coloring done in two minutes? (My character designs aren't even that complicated.) And yeah the blurry-ness when your zoomed out is *weird.* Although I don't really need anything too complicated. If I can draw and have access to layer settings I'm happy. Also I like they're copy and paste way better than FlipaClip's. -I made an 3+ minute animatic and half of it was done in FlipaClip and I remember my wrist getting sore from copy and pasting so much. I find the dragging out frames much more comfortable. I might just be used to it's weird interface.
I HATE PROCREATE DREAMS, HERES WHY. Procreate dreams has hidden ALL the tools making it harder to use the FRICKING APP! Compared to procreate all the tools such as the undo button IS NOT EVEN VISIBLE!! Using your finger to undo is basically IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME. Useing procreate dreams is like trying to use kakshi’s copy justu. This is just my experience with dreams, but I’ll be sticking with procreate to animate.
FOR REALLL! 20 dollars wasted 😭 though toonsquid sounds really good! I’ve been using FlipaClip and honestly… it’s a pay to be good type of thing, I CSN’T ANIMATE WITH ONLY 3 LAYERS
Toonsquid is literally every animation app ever, its like adobe animate but really simple and easy to use. Even tho its really opinion based. my first animation on there was way better then anything i've made on anything else (especially since theres no layer limit and you can add layers on layers and even with like a million it doesnt lag) i mean i can glaze for years honestly
Procreate Dreams does have Onion Skin. It’s when you go to Drawing mode, then you click on the time on the bottom left TIME numbers to choose the onion skin settings, such as color and how many steps or skins you want to see. Procreate Dreams does have a steep learning curve… especially for a noob like me… I was literally screaming in frustration at times because it was doing some wonky things (like when importing layers, like you mentioned), and the interface was driving me crazy. As you said though, the Performance mode does seem appealing, so I’ll try to stick it out with Dreams… hopefully, future updates will address major issues people are having with it.
As someone who has only procreate dreams, and yet to be able to buy toonsquid, i have gotten really used to using dreams, and found ways to by pass all the missing stuff. Though it is still VERY annoying and an unnesecary thing for me to even have to work on, i am not too bothered by it. I WILL definetly eventually buy toonsquid, and i think i will use it for full on animation, while using procreate dreams for silly stuff, because i do LOVE my brushes and cant stress enough how much i love being able to move my Procreate stuff into Dreams. Procreate is fantastic but dreams is definetly lacking. One thing i definetly am the most bothered by is the way the timeline editing works, especially when it comes to grouping and LAYERS. It is impossible to add another layer to a drawing that has liquify applied to it, which makes no sense, causs all the move functions arent even visible in drawing mode, so it could so very simply be possible. (Make it so liquify editing isint visible while in drawing mode, making it possible to add a coloring layer for example, and then when you go to timeline or view mode, ALL the layers have the same liquify layer on top. Instead of just...blocking me from adding layers all together. ) Oh and PLEASE Procreate make it possible to change a frame into a group without having to group something with it PLEASE it takes a YEAR to just make a GROUP OH MY GODDDD (Btw by liquify i mean "warp", procreate dreams obv does not have liquify yet 🥲)
was looking for a animation software on the ipad since my main art program (ibispaint)'s animation function blows hard, and flipaclip locks basic animation program features behind paywalls, I was iffy on Toonsquid but this video actually convinced me the $10 is worth it.
Saw the whole video and you convinced my to buy the app. I’m so happy. No more flipaclip, where you can only create 3 fricking layers for free unless you have a stupid subscription
Thank you for giving me the squid bc wow ima give it a try, Ive been waiting for a cozy app to animate on and dreams thought it would be funny that the 1 MIllion by 1 Million resolution was more important than basic features 😭 Im gonna give it a go!~
I really really love toonsquid! I think the only thing I get frustrated with is that the camera will always move as fast as your animated framerate. I would really like to just be able to animate on 7fps with the camera being at 24 or higher lmao
I think the fix for that would be to make it at like 24 frames but animating on twos or threes, or you could animate in a 7 frame project and after you finish you make a new project thats 24 frames and import the animation video to move the camera smoothly
@@Purporle thank you! But I’ve done both of those and unfortunately: 1. Animating on twos or threes is a little obnoxious because I have to actively drag each individual frame of my animation to fill two or three frames. It makes the screen look crowded and confusing for me, though that would probably work for someone else! 2. Exporting and importing the project destroys the quality. At least with my iPad. Seriously thank you though, that would be really good advice if I hadn’t tried them already lmao
Ive used dreams and at first i couldnt even finish a 3 sec animation without the app crashing every few minutes. After some months i stopped having that problem with animations that were also longer
omg i was contemplating getting toonsquid because i recently got a new ipad and cant animate with adobe animate on it, this video helped convinceme to NOT get procrate dreams and isntead toonsquid :3 thank you somuch!!
The one-time payment of Procreate Dreams attracted me... I thought it might turn into a subscription soon like FlipaClip due to it being too good so I bought it day 1 Turns out, it wasn't better than ToonSquid, and I just wasted money on that :(
I animate there and I like flipaclip so many doesn't like it cause it doesn't give you tools and stuff but if you know how to draw you wouldn't have a problem but I don't like the brushes that's the problem
I mean... If you had to pay 5.99 a month just to get the other onion skin which makes ZERO sense since the other one's free, I'd quit using flipaclip aswell
toonsquid is getting another big update in approximately 1-2 months with bone rigging, Inverse kinematic, puppet mesh, animatable warp and perspective, all the effects like blur, hsb, noise, chromatic abbtn etc(keyframable), lot of improvement in vector animation aspect of app and tonnes of other features and here we are with dreams without basic lasso and selection.
I feel procreate dreams was too busy trying to work with tool tricks and shortcuts rather than something to help with the drawing part. Personally, once lasso drops, it’ll make a LOT of things easier.
What do you think of the regular procreate and animating there? In comparison to ToonSquid and PD? Hope you answer :) thinking of starting my own animation channel (like yours) soon. Also what video editing app do you use/recommend?
Alright, I’ll bite I made my first ever completed animatic on procreate dreams over the course of two or three months, by drawing everything in procreate and exporting it over to Dreams to actually put it together. However, it definitely was extremely difficult, so I’d like to ask some quick questions to see if I should cough up the money for toonsquid. 1- is it really that simple to understand? The biggest issue for me with other animation softwares like adobe movie maker is that they were so overwhelming that I didn’t even know where to start. At least with procreate dreams I knew what I could be doing lmao 2- importing brushes/fonts? I desperately need my good brushes if I’m going to be making the switch lol 3- clipping mask? Please
Ffs I found this video and your last one after getting procreate dreams and thinking “hmm this isn’t that great I wonder what other ppl think”. Day ruined (your content is very funny please keep making it).

As someone who uses procreate regularly, it boggles my mind that dreams is worse than the regular app, THERES EVEN AN ANIMATE OPTION IN REGULAR PROCREATE FOR FLUFFS SAKE (only downside is that in regular procreate you can’t have that many frames, the frames themselves are based around layers or groups)
@@shearwatertheseawing I know!! I definitely prefer animating on base procreate over their actual animation app. I think procreate dreams is better as an editing app than an animation app honestly
I bought dreams back in December knowing they didn’t have the lasso tool but I thought “ah they’ll probably add it in next week.” The Procreate team is honestly pretty good at listening to what the users want but with dreams it’s been kinda 😬 Like they are soooo quick to add features for the new Apple Pencil but not for the damn lasso tool
Any timeframe? Which month? I really wish they add keyframing warp+guassian blur+HSB feature and it will single handedly leave every other animation app far far behind in every aspect as it already has so many features which other apps don't have like supporting vector brush, pen tool.

"Toonsquid is available for Ipad only"
"😭😭😭"
This video is super helpful and charming omg. keep it up you're amazing at this!!
I'm getting a lot of smaller creators in my homepage that really deserve to be bigger. May the force be with you.
Whoaaa, this is amazing! I haven’t heard of this one before, tysm for sharing!
Procreate Dreams crashed on me twice first time I used it, couldn’t even finish a basic animation.
Haven’t used it since and I’m scared to delete it cause I feel like I wasted my money T^T
I didn't even try Procreate Dreams because I knew it felt like the regular Procreate, which I didn't really like either. I kinda resigned myself to believing that there were no animation apps on iOS that I would like. It's nice knowing that I could be wrong
i love this channel and its way of having humor whilst reviewing, truly underrated! ❤❤
Thank you so much
Such a good video and your animation has so much personality.
Thank you :D
im actually about to quit flipaclip RIGHT NOW bc toonsquid looks 10x better, like, stretching a drawing to be MULTIPLE FRAMES?!?! that would save so much time. and the camera feature looks really interesting too
When I started animating I used flipppaclip, for a good while I did, until I made more complex animations needing more tools, which they didn’t have, so I saw ToonSquid and was like: yes
People to the procreate creators when dreams came out: you were suppose to destroy the Sith not join them!”
ok…first off… WHY THE HECK AM I JUST HEARING ABOUT THIS NOW!!! This whole time I’ve been struggling with dreams, I could’ve used this! Freak it! I’m convinced! I’m getting the squid!🦑
Thank you for the recommendation! This will help a lot with pursuing in animation!❤
The bad side of toonsquid is that the creator confirmed that he will not release an android version, this is sad
:(
1:34 Ouch the sudden slander on FlipaClip is WILD….but yeah reasonable enough lol.
Help the little guys!
SERIOUSLY !! THIS ! ITS KINDA HARD TO KEEP TALKING ABT TS ALONE (IT FEELS THIS WAY LMAO) i advertise it a bunch on tiktok with tutorials and general ads 😭 more people need to know about this app, keep spreading the word !!
Thanks for the rec, I'll check it out! I was so excited for Dreams, but using it is soooo frustrating. The lack of lasso and selection tools is actually insane. If they were to add one I'd give it another chance cuz the procreate compatibility is pretty sweet...
The video animation is very well done. Great editing. ❤ I just got Toon Squid last night and having a blast with it.
Toon squid is like mobile adobe animate
I made the mistake of getting procreate dreams first 😂 I'm living with it for now but at some point I might switch to toonsquid 😢
Sameee :') I spent 20 dollars on it so I'm trying to do what I can with it lol
@@PeriluneStar yeah 😂😂 dude I just bought ToonSquid last night 😭😭 I think thia vid finally convinced me lol
….Same here….
@@Teal3Hayly ahhh. I mean ToonSquid isn't as much as Dreams so you could still give it a shot and not waste a lot of money :) I'm currently comparing it to Dreams and there's actually some things I like about both
I’ve never tried Toonsquid before since I use Flash but apparently it’s basically like Flash but for mobile and it has custom brushes too so that’s cool
Virgin Pro dreams vs Chad toonsquid
I just found this video and it's great. Going to watch rest of the videos now :) OH yeah I'm sure you and all other folks here know this, but ToonSquid 2 is in the beta. And what i have seen on the list of improvements i'm excited. I have ToonSquid and I hope my valet will allow upgrade to ToonSquid 2 :) lol Also please make video about it once it is released (don't think it will have your favourite tool from the Dreams). Something like that you have in CTA5 (Cartoon Animator)
This is great, thank you! Dreams was way too complicated.
There's one more good thing about procreate dreams apart from performance mode is that you can keyframe warp and some some effects like hsb/gaussian blur. But i literally didn't like how they sacrificed the most desired liquify option in dreams just because of 1m*1m canvas size which literally no one on earth uses.
Procreate dreams needs:
1. LASSO TOOL!
2.quickshape
3.oinion skin between groups
I'm still waiting for a freaking lasso-fill and marching ants selections in the OG... for like 6 years now :(
Anyway your videos are great, thanks!
The second you said it was made by one person, I was sold. From what I know about Stardew? Take my money
SHES BACK
yooo tokazz
I cant believe that the bald man jumpscare got me at the end ;v; Also great video! This seems like such a great program!!
Thank you :D I’m glad the jumpscare got someone
I am new in drawing animation and have done it with procreate, frame by frame, long steps but easy, and when I bought procreate Dreams: I find it soooo complicated for nothing and its sad that they did not add the most useful tools like in procreate. They should have done it as an additional package to add in Procreate but features that are way more helpful for frames by frames animation - i like the blurr effect tho really helpfull but I hate the fact to use your fingers and also the pixels 😅
The only improvement I need from ToonSquid is a magic wand tool 😭😭🙏🙏
(My character designs aren't even that complicated.) And yeah the blurry-ness when your zoomed out is *weird.*
Although I don't really need anything too complicated.
Even tho its really opinion based. my first animation on there was way better then anything i've made on anything else
(especially since theres no layer limit and you can add layers on layers and even with like a million it doesnt lag)
i mean i can glaze for years honestly
Day 4 of not watching TH-cam shorts and finding content that makes me wanna cry because of good quality
Had toonsquid first- and bought procreate dreams cuz it promised so much more-
Lemme tell you, I love the squid. Staying loyal to the squid
I am SO glad I saw this before getting Procreate Dreams…
This is cheaper, and better, it’s not even close!
Instead of just...blocking me from adding layers all together. )
Oh and PLEASE Procreate make it possible to change a frame into a group without having to group something with it PLEASE it takes a YEAR to just make a GROUP OH MY GODDDD
(Btw by liquify i mean "warp", procreate dreams obv does not have liquify yet 🥲)
was looking for a animation software on the ipad since my main art program (ibispaint)'s animation function blows hard, and flipaclip locks basic animation program features behind paywalls, I was iffy on Toonsquid but this video actually convinced me the $10 is worth it.
This really helped me! Benn looking for an animation app! Thx!!!!!
Edit: Got the app. made 46 secs of animation in a day. This app is heaven.
I so badly wanna get into toon squid but my little pea brain couldn’t handle being forced to draw in landscape, hated that aspect sobs
love the style of your videos, so swag
Saw the whole video and you convinced my to buy the app. I’m so happy. No more flipaclip, where you can only create 3 fricking layers for free unless you have a stupid subscription
Thank you for giving me the squid bc wow ima give it a try, Ive been waiting for a cozy app to animate on and dreams thought it would be funny that the 1 MIllion by 1 Million resolution was more important than basic features 😭
Im gonna give it a go!~
I really really love toonsquid!
But I’ve done both of those and unfortunately:
I love ToonSquid so much, I do wish they would port it over to PC and Mac.
Ive used dreams and at first i couldnt even finish a 3 sec animation without the app crashing every few minutes. After some months i stopped having that problem with animations that were also longer
Welcome to the ToonSquid community, also, I see you’re a fan of Hazbin Hotel, it’s a great show.
Toonsquid UI got better huh, before I couldn’t understand anything 😅
Thank you for giving me your opinion on a app where I can animate finally and everything this really helps thx
Some other toonsquid features are the three fingers to scrub through your animation, and also the marker system which is great for lip sync
@@DavidAnimates246 oh wow I didn’t know that thank you!!!!
This was very helpful, thank you!!
omg i was contemplating getting toonsquid because i recently got a new ipad and cant animate with adobe animate on it, this video helped convinceme to NOT get procrate dreams and isntead toonsquid :3 thank you somuch!!
The one-time payment of Procreate Dreams attracted me... I thought it might turn into a subscription soon like FlipaClip due to it being too good so I bought it day 1
Turns out, it wasn't better than ToonSquid, and I just wasted money on that :(
Wish toonsquid had the little recording thing procreate dreams has
1:33 FlipaClip gets no love😢
lol
I animate there and I like flipaclip so many doesn't like it cause it doesn't give you tools and stuff but if you know how to draw you wouldn't have a problem but I don't like the brushes that's the problem
I mean... If you had to pay 5.99 a month just to get the other onion skin which makes ZERO sense since the other one's free, I'd quit using flipaclip aswell
I really hope procreate dreams gets their act together because I spent $20 dollars on that app so I’d like to use it 💀
toonsquid is getting another big update in approximately 1-2 months with bone rigging, Inverse kinematic, puppet mesh, animatable warp and perspective, all the effects like blur, hsb, noise, chromatic abbtn etc(keyframable), lot of improvement in vector animation aspect of app and tonnes of other features and here we are with dreams without basic lasso and selection.
I feel procreate dreams was too busy trying to work with tool tricks and shortcuts rather than something to help with the drawing part. Personally, once lasso drops, it’ll make a LOT of things easier.
On my way to go get this now! :D
Thank you so much, this is so helpful D:
What do you think of the regular procreate and animating there? In comparison to ToonSquid and PD? Hope you answer :) thinking of starting my own animation channel (like yours) soon.
Also what video editing app do you use/recommend?
Alright, I’ll bite
I made my first ever completed animatic on procreate dreams over the course of two or three months, by drawing everything in procreate and exporting it over to Dreams to actually put it together.
At least with procreate dreams I knew what I could be doing lmao
2- importing brushes/fonts? I desperately need my good brushes if I’m going to be making the switch lol
3- clipping mask? Please
Guys, we are so back!
3:01 it also happens in adobe animate idk what is this lag
Ffs I found this video and your last one after getting procreate dreams and thinking “hmm this isn’t that great I wonder what other ppl think”. Day ruined (your content is very funny please keep making it).
I paid 20 dollars for an app that REALLY needed time to cook more and to come with detailed instructions. well at least I have calipeg that cost me 60 dollars........you're going to make me want to spend 10 more dollars on this.
I have both and I use both. I was actually able to make an animated short, too! ❤
I bought dreams back in December knowing they didn’t have the lasso tool but I thought “ah they’ll probably add it in next week.” The Procreate team is honestly pretty good at listening to what the users want but with dreams it’s been kinda 😬
Like they are soooo quick to add features for the new Apple Pencil but not for the damn lasso tool
Thank you! ❤
@@toonsquidart oh my goodness toonsquid! Your app is just amazing!
Woah :D
Adobe animate fits me better… but i want to try toonsquid sometime
I regret getting Procreate Dreams ughhshd I got ToonSquid first but I was focused on getting some variety of apps 😭 So I still hope Dreams improves,
ToonSquid is great! And it’s supposed to be getting a big 2.0 update soon
Any timeframe? Which month? I really wish they add keyframing warp+guassian blur+HSB feature and it will single handedly leave every other animation app far far behind in every aspect as it already has so many features which other apps don't have like supporting vector brush, pen tool.
@@Mrlonely-gs8th I wish I knew. All I know is he said soon. He works on ToonSquid in his free time, but he said the next true update will be a big one
