On top of which, how did they manage to find their way to the swamp? Edit: especially considering the fact that they didn't know that shrek married fiona originally, and they didn't know where exactly they were. I mean, if the movie takes place in say... the 1500s, it is a long time away from commercially available GPS and google maps.

Just thought I'd add a potential sin. At 10:48 Shrek and Donkey drink the potion while in broad daylight. It takes until Shrek and Donkey pass out in a barn during a storm, a night time segment with the king and queen, then Shrek and Donkey to wake up again, and for the potion to take effect before they read the back of the bottle to learn that in order to make the potion permanent they have to kiss before midnight. Does this rule just skip around the fact that it took a whole night for it to go into effect? Wouldn't the potion wear off by now? Or is it just excused for plot purposes? I'll take answer number three for 300.
I always got the impression that it wasn't the spell that turned the King into a frog. It was heavily implied the King was always a frog, and the Fairy Godmother turned him human and was blackmailing him with the threat of turning him back. So when she died the spell was broken and he returned to his true form.

When Fairy God Mother used her wand and hit the King’s armour with her magic, it killed her. The king was born a Frog and Fairy God Mother used her magic to make him human. When she died, all of her magic died too which made the King turn back into a frog :3 (sin explained XD I guess)

Tokyo Ghoul Actually I think it's more that when he made the deal with Fairy Godmother he was to trade his daughter for a chance to be human. She had to marry Charming by a certain time or the deal was off. Lillian had no idea so when her daughter started changing (likely due to FG to ensure only charming would love her) she panicked and sent Fiona away while she tried to find a way to cure her.
Well no, because Shrek and Fiona stayed human after the fact, meaning that isn't what happened, if killing her undid her magic, they'd of turned back to ogres.
@@Sarge501st You also have to remember just because she's dead doesn't mean the magic is undone. Like the potions can be made by anyone and still have the intended affect despite the creator's death, since the magic imbued into it doesn't need to be constantly redone such as a spell. Sure the affects can be permanent under certain circumstances (such as health potions in videogames) or temporary like the love potion without true loves kiss. It all depends on what it's used for. Look at Rumpelstiltskin for example, sure Shrek could have killed him but the contract would still stand and thus have no way to return home before disappearing.

The "Holding Out for a Hero" sequence is easily the best single scene in animated movie history, but it does commit one sin (how egregious of a sin you find it depends on how much you know about music): Fairy Godmother says C minor, but the whole (BRILLIANT) musical number is in G minor.
Well the spell wasn't to change Shrek into a frog, it was supposed to change him to his true self and the king was originally a frog, a homage to the Princess and the Frog which is why the fairy God mother could blackmail the king

Sin 45: The Crusade war wound is actually another in-joke. John Cleese, who plays the king, is also famous for playing the hotel manager Basil Fawlty in the sitcom Fawlty Towers. Whenever Basil was put on the spot (roughly once per episode) he would get out of it by clutching his leg and moaning about "shrapnel, old war wound" in the same way as the king does here.

I first saw Shrek 2 with a group of friends and here's the very thin teenage logic we used for explaining why the King turns into a frog and the Fairy Godmother blows up. She knew it was a happily ever after potion Shrek had taken and used so in a final desperate effort to not let him win she shot a reversal spell at him to remove the effects of happily ever after. Because the King had worked with her receiving a happily ever after transformation of his own in order to marry Queen Lillian he was reverted back to his original state as a frog. And because happily ever after is her main gimmick/objective it is possible that the fairy godmother's power/being is generated by happily ever after itself. So when she was struck by the reversal spell she essentially removed her main source of life/power resulting in her exploding into a cloud of bubbles
