Love the PS2. I got good grades in Elementary school one year and my dad bought me a PS2 Slimline bundled with Gran Turismo and Jak II as a reward for the good grades.. Still have the console to this day and it still works.

I got my original fat PS2 as a gift back in the 8th grade (mid 2002) but sold it towards a launch PS3. Recently bought a slim model in addition to a PSOne from a pal of mine. I still miss my fat PS2 and especially my launch PS3 (YLOD)
I'm replaying Vice City and RE4 on my PS2 slim ATM. That and my fat PS3 are still going strong a decade plus later.

@@vfspectrum4652 I'm not an Xbox fan boy. Only ever owned Playstations my whole life (PS1-PS4). With that being said, it's no secret that the original Xbox, the Xbox 360, and the Xbox One X were all better performers (note I used the word "performers", not "consoles". I do not want to make this subjective, but objective) than their competition. They had more horsepower, were a far better value, and got better with age. I know this because I have played on Xboxes too. Xboxes are better than Playstations in the hands of an enthusiast, but a consumer might not be able to tell the difference between the two. Just my 2 cents.
I can't believe I have the original Ps2 model from 2000, and it still runs with zero problems in 2018.

My favorite console of all time. I still play to this day, with a lot of games in my backlog. This is for me the definitive console.
I fired up God of War 2 again. It still holds up in 2018.

silvergbasp13, if you do not clean out the areas around the fan of a video game console, then the dust and dirt that will accumulate will cause the fan to die, thus killing your video game console.

Ps2 and Xbox 360 are my favorite consoles ever. But I'm more of a PlayStation fan though. 360 is a great console still.

My 30000 model PS2 lasted more than 10 years before I sold it to my neighbor. Never cleaned, disc tray made a horrible noise when ejecting it, but it never quit on me. Fast forward some eight years and my PS3 seems to be holding up just as well. I have good luck with Sony consoles, I guess.
Brilliant review and I love the music you used in the background too, Metal Gear Solid 2 and Ratchet & Clank's Metropolis, GTA, so full of nostalgia.
The ps2 is the best console of all time, a timeless gem. Back when games were incredible and they didn't need patches to fix anything and no bull shit at all like day one dlc and loot boxes. I miss the older days.

i used to use it vertically because there wasn't enough space where it was to lay it horizontally
although i moved it to a different room and i use it horizontally now

The PlayStation two was the console of my childhood. I spent hours and hours on this thing playing need for speed, GTA, MGS, and Gran Turismo. I absolutely loved it. My PS3 never seemed to match up to it, and by then I traded it for an Xbox 360 and have been on Xbox since.
I just love my PS2. Such nostalgia console. And memories of my childhood.

if the disc player goes bad you can always jailbreak the system and play the games off HDD or USB! dont let a faulty laser kill a great piece of hardware!
Ps2 is still awesome, running opl on it, all games on hdd, psx games on hdd or usb, streaming games of network, ps3 and ps4 bleutooth controller support work flawless with latest opl build, and memory card saves on hdd so its still very modern even today
I would never lay a console upwards, feels like it adds more stress to the system from gravity tugging everything the wrong way

A lot of hd collections are on ps3 for many game franchises on ps2 or they were or some are still there on the ps store on ps3.
@Shorty Silent Hill one was a mess due to working with beta coding of the game. Tbh I think they did okayish on 2, but 3 is def unplayable. Most hd collections work fine from what I've seen.

I remember i borrowed my friends memory card to play mgs and i played that demo disk with viewtiful joe on it. It erased about 20 different games, my friend was so pissed.
I was a Sega fanboy at the time loving my Dreamcast more than anything and initially skipping PS2. But in about 2005 I finally bought a slim one just for one game, GTA San Andreas. What a game. I sinked more than 100 hours into it and I loved every second. I always thought the Xbox version was inferior because they changed the lighting and the game lost a lot of its atmosphere. And I always loved the way PS2 looked, it's such a sleek design, still the best looking console, imo.

I still own the PS2 since March 23rd 2005 there's alot of awesome Sony exclusives such as Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, San Andreas, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Gran Turismo, Syphon Filter, Kingdom Hearts I and II, and Sonic Mega Collection Plus I Currently own 75 games as of February 2019 I thought about getting more and more PS2 Games by the end of this Year because how much I love the System itself
I remember playing "Smuggler's run" on a roommate's PS2 back in 2000, it seemed like the most awesome game ever at the time. I still play it sometimes even though it looks like crap on an HDTV even with progressive scan.
Implementing a DVD player into the console was Sony's smartest decision ever.
Ironic since Siny had made DVD Players and the PS2 is cheaper than their DVD Players.
Fire Pro Wrestling Z and Fire Pro Wrestling R/Returns both had eight player support, and so did Fire Pro Wrestling D for the Sega Dreamcast.
I still own the PS2 since March 2005 it was my 2nd Console I got when I Started Gaming when I was Younger my 1st Game was Sonic Mega Collection Plus I remember I got Finding Nemo and an Emerald Green DualShock 2 (as a 2nd Controller) Easter 2005 for my Easter Presents I Currently own 72 Games as of October 2018

PS2 really had something for everyone. Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell for stealth, Ratchet and Jak for platformers, Fatal Frame, Resident Evil and Silent Hill for survival horror, Devil May Cry, God of War and Onimusha for action, Grand Theft Auto and True Crime for sandbox, etcetera.
Man, your game collection is very similar to mine, it's unreal.
Sony absolutely knocked it out of the park with PS2. Great system and sure it has collector value.
Favourite console, never had disk read errors with games I own. Network activated, and more. Xbox original rarely owned and never knew about other consoles until I learned later on since PS2 was my first console. Great review, many things similar to didyouknowgaming. But knew more from this review.
Suntanned Duck2 the ps 2 was also my first console. I gave to my little sister. Then I got my ps3 which I still have today. Then In last Christmas I bought my self the xbox one s.

the ps2 was just brilliant. DVD player AND Backwards compatibility, even the CONTROLLERS? brilliant.
I fixed my ps2 just recently from the disc could not be read error, if you want to fix the ps2, just open it up, and don’t forget to unplug it, then get to the disc ready, get a can of dust cleaner, spray it on the disc reader, and then start it up, if it works, success and put the case back on, if it doesn’t, try looking for alternative ways to fix it.
Max Memory has Memory Cards that hold up to 64MB for the normal slot Memory Card, but it also has a flash drive one that you can put into the back, or front, depending on your PS2 model, peripheral USB ports that holds up to 1GB of information.
I saw your reviews of the PS2 and Gamecube, and I love how you went much into detail with those consoles, whether it came to hardware/software capabilities, exclusives, theories for their sales, etc. I would love for you to also review the original Xbox if you possibly could!

I have had my fat ps2 standing vertical for years and I never had a problem with disc read errors or scratches.
I didn't know the PS2 had pressure sensitive buttons. I grew up playing PC games and didn't get a console till the X360 for Halo 3. I got a PS2 much later off a mate but didn't really play it that much, I still have it somewhere.

The ps2 was never an ugly looking system. To me it’s still the best looking PlayStation of all to e because it just looked like a mini PC tower
When your dad brings you ps2 with loads of ps1 games but no ps2 games. But still my little ass wasn't complaining lol
I didn't start playing Bully until the Scholarship Edition came out on Wii and Xbox 360. I remember hearing that the Xbox 360 version despite looking good in HD, was riddled with bugs. Where as the Wii version was surprisingly decent despite the forced motion controls. There is also a PC version, which I own but still haven't gotten around to playing yet.
Also, there was one thing the games in the 6th generation of consoles (especially the PS2) had that the games from later gens lacked... and that's edge. Edge that has given me nostalgia feels from playing those games and still continues to, even if it's a game I haven't played before to this day! And I'm in my early 30s for crying out loud!
Great video. I was getting all nostalgic watching this. I wanted to recommend and idea for another video. Perhaps do one on the online history for the PS2. It often get's overshadowed by XBox and XBox Live.
Absolutely agree on GT4. I could not get over just how much was available to do on the game. With a full photo studio with backdrops and custom setups as well if you wanted to get into that, exporting out to USB flash drives in hi res! full 24 hour races, incredible detail in the courses down to mud on the kerbs! Nordschleife in full with on track graffiti and track side landmarks which I grew to know off by heart! What they were able to pack on to a disc was insane really.

The best console of my chilhood is definitely the PS2, on this masterpiece console you have all the type of games to choose to play, the most versatile console of gaming, I still have My Ps2, when Nostalgia hits me up I go back to have some fun with some of my underrated games from that specific era. 🙂☯️🙃

my gaming career began with playing NFS High Stakes on PC, then Sega GameGear (not that that is really a console), then PS1 slim, then PS2 slim and my god i thought I was going to be a Sony fanboy forever but the Xbox 360 came out and I fell in love. Xbox 360 would be my go to for years and years but the PS2 would always be pulled out every few months to feel nostalgic with both PS1 and PS2 games. I finally got a Xbox 1 a few years ago and thats my casual gaming now but I mostly stick to PC games. everything comes full circle but my PS2 is ALWAYS plugged in
Things you left out or got wrong
Last game ever made for the PS2 is PES 2016
Optical Audio port
IR receiver (for a remote when you watch movies)
i-Link (removed on slim but is still on the mobo)
Headset compatibility (voice chat online/lan and games like Socom implemented voice commands)
Being able to output at a maximum of 1080p (through freemcboot)
PS2 supported Netflix(Brazil only)
PS2 is capable of streaming games via file sharing with PC or a specific server with files that can be shared (freemcboot)
Supported HDR
The PS2 supported cross platform multiplayer with PC
The newest version of the PS2 (slim 2008) no longer booted off of the memory card. The PS2 was meant to be updated regularly like current consoles. Only update being a V1.2 disc. The problem was if you take the updated memory card out the console will reset to default.
(Fun Facts)
1. The PS2s CPU the Emotion Engine (EE) is more powerful than the Xboxs and the GameCubes. (You can basically say it was the PS3s cell processor of the time)
and if it was fully utilized games would possibly look and run better than Xbox games. (the best PS2 games ran mostly at 60hz NTSC with some rarely being locked at 30fps while having lots of models on screen moving while most of Xboxs best games are locked at 30fps and don't have nearly has much as some of the PS2 games had like Ratchet and Clank)
2. Grand Turismo 4 was so good in quality that lots of the cars were simply ported over to GT5 and rendered in HD
3. There has YET to be a game that was able to utilize 100% of the EEs power. Same goes for the PS3s insanely powerful Cell Processor.
4. I still play a few games online that have unofficial servers still up. As well as bypassing the DNAS check as well as GameSpy servers with OpenSpy and LAN tunneling with Xlink Kai (Twisted Metal Black, Socom, COD, StarWars BattleFront 1& 2, TimeSplitters, Tribes Ascend.. ect)
it was pes 2014, not 2016. and regardless of how powerful it was on paper, multiplats ran considerably worse on the ps2. noticably so.
Thats because no one knew how to utilize it properly. Also yes it was PES 2016 (which was released in 2015)

They took the easy route and just decrease render distance and texture quality because they didn't know how
EPiK DJ pes 2016 was NOT on ps2 fifa 14 was the last and shortly after they killed off the servers
