Good points. I think it's very useful to consider learning a less well-known opening. A good trick I used to help me get to 2000 was to take an actual chess piece (a pawn for example) and put it in my shoe before going to work each day. Helped me think about chess all day and I also found the punishment for not meeting my goal very motivating. When I finally broke 2000 I stopped putting pieces in my shoe, but I have developed a slight limp. Whenever people ask me about my limp, I proudly tell them I'm in the 2000 club! Good luck.

Ha, ha that's amazing. I've got this funny image of a man limping around the place with a chess piece in his shoe now. Great stuff! When I was writing my first mystery book I had a keyring and a cup made so that I was reminded to write every day but your chess piece in the shoe story beats that hands down. Well done on hitting 2000.

Thank you for your videos. I find them insightful and interesting. Good luck with the Dutch.
I'm continuing experiment with 1.b3 and 1..b6. Btw the reason I started playing 1..b6 is because I wanted to practice this setup more often. I find it to be really close to 1.b3. Most often get tactical games and even if misplay opening sometimes manage to complicate things and win in the middlegame. So far enjoy these games much more than when I was playing 1.d4 and 1..c5 for black.

Thanks! I might play 1...b6 against 1.e4 for a time more as it will be hard for me to take on three new openings. The Dutch against 1.d4 and 1.b3 as white.
I'm glad you are enjoying the change. I felt 1...d4 d5 was too stagnant for me. I needed to mix it up with my new start to chess. Thanks for watching, cheers!

Any guidance for finding model games for an opening you're interested in? (So you can see what kind of middlegames and positions it leads to?)
Good luck with the Dutch! Will be interesting to follow how you get on.

Cheers, that's a great question! (There might be a video in that one!) I always try to find short clean games that follow the general theme of that particular opening. Like trying to showcase the opening in it's best possible light. I look games with around 25 moves depending on the opening. I'll do a video on that one tomorrow. Thanks.
