    Purchase this earlier today. Going through the common ideas, and things seem really promising so far. There's a lot of new ideas that look more fun to play than the previous iterations of the course. Can't wait to see what the theory sections look like.

    Just started watching and it’s brilliant. It’s entertaining, of course, but what love is that it’s based on ideas and their rationale not memorising moves. I’d buy the equivalent French in a blink.

    Hi Simon, I've just watched the 10 minute intro video for this course on the GingerGM page. I hadn't seen the original course, but when you asked Blair at the end if he was in a better mental state than in the last course it cracked me up, and I've decided to buy the full course as I could do with the lightheartedness right now, to be honest. Looking forward to it, I'm sure it will aid me in becoming more than just a small time, petty wood pusher. Cheers.

      @@blairchess About half way through now - really enjoying it. Anyone could benefit from it. I'm only about 1550 rated, so there's plenty of new ideas for me and I'm having fun learning. I've had a few games today trying to use some of the common ideas and you're right... it's really, really fun for an opening as you can sense the opponent gets a bit confused here and there (as would I if used against me lol, but less so now). You both work well together and I'll likely finish it this evening before a weekend of bank holiday drinking and degrading carnage. Thank you Simon and Blair.

    Any plans to release this course on chessable? Love your content! I own many of your courses and I find your way of explaining positions is masterclass. Your courses are always fun and the ideas stick. By the way I was part of one of your live classes and you gave me a suggestion to try using the stonewall dutch against my dad. It worked out very well but I find the classical dutch is also effective against my dad.

      I have the same question and I am asking me whether he gains more money on his own website as he would get for the same price on Chessable because Chessable is a bit too greedy , if our great hero the Ginger GM gains more , if we buy it on his website, I will buy it there , can you say something about this Dear Simon Williams ? Really love your courses !!! I hope the hyper fanboy vibes are ok in this message ❤️

    Have you taken a look into Daniels Opening Course? Do you have a lot of overlap in the variations? How do your courses differ?

    • @blairchess
      @blairchess ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Hope you don't mind me replying at least in the 1st instance. Neither of us have looked at Daniel's course so I'm afraid we can't answer that but our understanding is that it's not a video course so you don't get Simon's insightful explanations which even I found enlightening despite playing the Jobava for years. We did consider looking at it but the material in this course has been built up over sometime, long before Daniel's course was released and we are very happy with it so we didn't feel the need to look at his course.

  • @zxien1
    @zxien1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What I've learned from watching the video: Simon Williams needs to become a braver man in order to bestow upon us people the glory of witnessing his blazer in person. 0:39. On a more serious note, I am curious if you have looked into the sideline of 4.Na6 5.e3 **Be7** 6.g4!! I looked into it and it has only ever been played 11 times in master games yet the computer shows it to be very playable. White either gets a raging attack on the kingside or ends out in a very imbalanced position in the middle game (either by pawn structure or material) often with nice piece placement.

    • @blairchess
      @blairchess ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You make 2 excellent points and I, for one, can't decide which is more important. That said, we did consider g4 ideas in the line you mention as 5...Be7 seems to be a decent approach for Black and one of the better ones. We reached the conclusion that although it's definitely playable, we felt that as Black has not committed to kingside castling it may be a little premature. It does feel like a line to give consideration to as it looks very much like the better prepared/versed player will prosper.

  • @ThomasLoganRitchie
    @ThomasLoganRitchie ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi, Simon!
    The line
    1.d4 d5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.Bf4 e6 4.Nb5 Bb4+! 5.c3 Ba5 6.a4 a6 7.b4 Nc6! 8.bxa5 axb5 9.axb5 Nxa5 10.e3 Bd7
    has been presented as an equalizer for black and SF14 seems to agree with that.
    Have you discovered something new here?

    • @blairchess
      @blairchess ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi. This is a very reasonable point and likely Black's best continuation which leads to rough equality. I would suggest playing 11.Bg5 with the idea of taking on f6 if Black plays ...h6. I think White's position is preferable from a practical point of view given the relative strengths of the light squared bishops but, that said, it cannot be denied that engines are perfectly OK with Black. An example of the light squared bishop viewpoint is as follows, Leela's top line runs 11.Bg5 h6 12.Bxf6 Qxf6 13.Nf3 0-0 14.Ne5 Qe7 15.Bd3 Nc4 (seeking to solve the light squared bishop problem tactically, a classic engine plan to get activity ASAP) 16.Nxc4 dxc4 17.Bxc4 Rxa1 18.Qxa1 Qg5 19.0-0 Bb5 20.h4 Qf5 21.e4 Qh5 22.Qa5 c6 23.Bxb5 cxb5. The resulting position might be OK for an engine but looks very grim to me for Black from a human perspective. I think it's currently fortunate that 4...Bb4+ which you give an exclamation mark to is played in around 10% of master games, around 3% of lichess games and about 5% of my games. I've also seen some videos stating that 4...Na6 is Black's "only decent move" which is good. I think 4...Bb4+ is Black's best move but it is the preserve of the very well prepared and a counter intuitive move to play OTB as the bishop gets blocked and pushed back.

    • @blairchess
      @blairchess ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Thanks for your question. We cover 1...c5 and 1...f5 in individual chapters. We look at 1. d4 Nf6 2.Nc3 e6 3.Bf4 and now 3...b6 which I would suggest could lead to similar lines after 1...b6 but we don't look specifically at 1...b6. We didn't cover 1...b5 We decided that at some point we would be straying too far from the core opening if we considered too many side lines. One interesting point, of course, is that after 1...b5 2.Nc3 would not be a good idea as it simply welcomes 2...b4. I appreciate it's a good idea to be prepared but against 1.d4 the reply 1...b5 happens less than 1 in 1,000 games. So, to explain, if we covered all somewhat reasonable moves the video might still be in production. Hope that helps
