I keep coming back to this song and video month after month over the years. I'm really grateful for this, and to know that there are people who think and feel this way, and who make art that is so generous and uplifting. Jeez.
I remember when I'd always hear this on the radio after a long hard nightshift, and it felt like a hug. I really needed a hug all those nights.
Kurt is the gold standard. He is the conduit and the torch bearer for music made the way it's supposed to be made. What a gift and what a burden.

Who else is in the conversation? Bon Iver? Sufjan Stevens? Nick Cave? An argument could be made for a small handful of artists who are gifted so far beyond their peers that you could make that statement without sounding like a fool, but I think that Kurt is the most accessible/least pretentious of them all. And there's a simple positivity to his work that is completely absent from the other geniuses of the current day.
As a 52 year old man who used to write and play for a living, and who used to listen to music all day/every day 15 years ago, he's the artist who caused me update my home audio equipment and purchase obscenely overpriced headphones so I can listen all day/every day again.
Just discovered Kurt Vile and he's been my whole week.
he's so good. Not to take away from Kurt, and more to spread the love, but in case you haven't dipped into "The war on drugs" yet, he was involved with them in the early days as well, and they rock with/without Kurt.
