Just checking in. New Subscriber from Central FL.. Using my MTB to get my health together after a long battle over the years.. I make youtube vids in a different subject matter, but I appreciate videos where the presenter gives out useful information such as this channel. @Clint Gibbs, please keep up the great work..
Just wanted to correct what you said about travel: Travel is how much each wheel moves due to suspension. Most rear shocks do not (For example) move 200mm, but the back wheel can. Still love your videos!
Great vid as usual. When are getting your new Trance replacement? Can you do a video on ride position and bike setup for both XC and Trail. Topics might include stand over height, seat height/angle, stem length, bar width and suspension setup. I never feel confident in the way my bike is configured and I'm trying to achieve an optimum setup. Seems like a science in itself.
My new trance is due in about mid December according to Giant. Yes, bike setup will be a good topic. In the meantime check out my trail bike vs cross country bike video if you haven't already. That may help with things like bar with and stem length.
Great information. If possible looking for information on 1. if I can convert my brakes to hydraulic 2. How i can know how to match both my gears with cassette replacements when refurbishing 3. How can I know which derailleur to buy Thanks
I've been wondering how to properly measure the handlebar stem. Do you measure from the bolts to the tip of the stem or something different? Thanks for your time and videos. Always informative.
There’s a difference obviously between a cassette and a freewheel. That’s a whole video. You know, it’d be great if you did a vid of yourself disassembling a mtn bike while discussing the relevant parts. & tools used. Then slowly show yourself reassembling the bike while again discussing the parts and tools involved at each step. That would make you AMAZING in terms of content. Then it’d be a video resource that’d be consulted repeatedly by would be mechanics. Many more views. :)
Very informative Clint. My question is what advice would you give on cleaning the bike especially in the chain area..Also the functions of the suspension in/on the fork? Many thanks in the meantime.
Clint new to the channel. Can you do part 2 and explain how certain parts have been evolved and why ? For example you began to to about the different types of chain rings one or two. But now they have stiffer and changeable cranks. Why ? You could do the same for seat posts forks etc
Thanks for another informative video! Just a question about thru-axles: other than thru-axles having to be removed in order for the wheel to come off, is the only other difference thru-axles are thicker? If that is so, is there a reason why haven't they made thicker axles of the "old" variety, that would just drop down and wouldn't need to be removed in order to remove the wheel?
Making a fat quick release axle I think would just be too heavy. Specialized made one several years ago that I had on my Stumpjumper hardtail. But through axles are also a lot safer, especially for a front wheel.
Hello sir clint... I have an anthem just like this. I had this for a long time now. I want to ask sir if i can use a 160mm travel fork or a fox 36 on it? Its because i use it sometimes on some trails, single track in our place and im a big guy @ 110kls. Im already using some wide rims and a 2.4 size tires at the moment. Thank you sir...
No, I would not recommend that at all, especially at your weight. Adding a longer fork puts more stress on the head tube than it was designed for. You could increase it by 20 mm more than the stock fork but not more than that.
@ Clint Gibbs hey mate, is there any chance that you explain rear suspension travel in some video... im realy confused about 1 thing about rear sus., if we talk about front sus. travel you can see that 100-or more mm of travel on it. But if we look at rear sus it looks like lot less travel and yet it has same amount of travel as front...so what is happening there, where those mm disappear. I hope i wasnt sound too confused or weird :) Thanks in advance.
It's all about leverage. A full suspension bike that has a 2 to 1 leverage means the shock will move 1 inch for every two inches the rear wheel moves up and down. But yeah, I will try to get a video out there at some point.
Hello everyone seeing my comment 😊 i love cycling,🥰 I am wishing I could ever own a road bike. Am asking a well wisher to help me aquire 1 bike. I'll really appreciate 🤗
I've got an important bike tech job interview tomorrow and your video has been a great refresher on the bike anatomy 👍. Greetings from England...
wishing you the best on your interview!
@ClintGibbs many thanks 🙏
i'm a newbie and beginning to feel like a pro just watching the video. thank you clint.
This video is great. Very informative and you don't talk down to new cyclists like me.

Yep, guess I could have stated that better. Sorry about that.
Clint Gibbs No problem, just trying to make it clear for everyone.
Heinz Ketchup great ketchup! But seriously that is great info!
Even though i knew most of these things, i learnt some new terms. Good video!
Great video, very informative and not too fast.
new to bikes and this video is the best ive seen. very good information

Clint, that was a very informative video. I learned a lot and the presentation was very professional. Thank you.
Very informative, thanks for sharing
No one cares
Thanks very informative. I would love to have a bike poster with the components names on.
Me too. I've only subscribed today.

Great video Clint
Great explanation 👌 👍 😊 Thanks
Before this video I knew like 10% of the terms but This was very helpful
Thank you! I learned a lot!!!
on bike stand, why some hold via top tube and some via seatpost?
you can cut a sterer tube down.... so it can be adjusted how ever once its cut you done
Well made and detailed!

Top cap bolt to middle of the handlebar.

This would probably be the closest video that I have to that

Cranksets is really a confusing topic that really needs an explanation

Thanks for the video and your answer!
I finally understand the principle of thru-axles.
Wild head tube angle. steep
Awsome vid

+Clint Gibbs OK ty very much for that !
hey clint can you do some trail riding and make it into a video
Yep, I was actually just thinking this week that I need to do that.
i am trying to go clipless. and i found lot of types. which 1 wud be ideal for xc trail riding
I assume you are referring to the actual pedal? If so I would recommend the Shimano XT trail pedals. Model PD-M785.

how do you like the rocket rons?
My favorite XC tire. Light, fairly low rolling resistance and great corner and grip on the type of soil I ride most often.
Why is your bike so dirty?? You really need to wash it, especially your drivechain! :)
Ha. I did after I made the video :)

Shimano XT would be my recommendation
