If you mean Merrin, I hope his embrace would last more than a second. Here is the thing. There is a conflict on what is the force. It's based on Taoism, but the dark side is not evil in Taoism, but Lucas wants to create a good vs evil dichotomy. But Lucas did not create Star wars on his own, and some want to keep the force truer to the Taoist beginning. This is why the wisest of the Jedis , Qui Gon Jin wants to bring balance to the force. It's the imbalance of the force that is bad. In Jedi preaching, selfishness is bad. Him saving his friends is being selfish. Also Romantic love is bad, or atleast to the point of marriage. Merrin uses dark side force. I believe the makers are on my interpretation. Neither extreme promotes love, but I believe the mixture of compassion and desire creates something better. I hope Ahsoka would explore more on this, since she left the Jedi
What I really like about this game is that it shows the dark side in all its power through cal, and how it’s so easy to fall for it, and a lot harder to avoid it
I used cyan for most of the game but after after Cere died I switched to purple. Cal being pushed to his breaking point was my favorite part of the game
@Aaron Sanders Because different colored lightsabers mean different things. Kyber crystals are what fuel the lightsabers. The force user is actually chosen by a kyber crystal based on their personality and fighting style. Different colored lightsabers suggest different things about its wielder and so its important to Star Wars fans to pick a color that represents their character and play style.
A lot of people missed this but Cal using the darkside in the final fight saved him twice. First off obviously he was being beaten to a pulp by Bode so he used it to get Bode off of him. If you noticed after Bode is thrown to the ground, his blasters are smoking and shooting sparks. This is then causes the malfunction when Bode fires first. Otherwise Cal would have been shot. So the darkside saved him twice.

Its awesome how there's whole comment threads still mad about Vader vs Cere. The fight and ending was epic. Plus its totally in character for Vader to mess around and then get serious once he actually feels threatened. In episode 5 Luke had like no skills in dueling and still hit Vader's shoulder ONLY because Vader was fucking around. Vader's response was to immediatly get serious and not only chop off Luke's arm, but to throw shit at him without ever even using his hands like force users typically have to. Vader was once Anakin, an overpowered and at times cocky kid who spent his whole youth being gassed up over his potential. Anakin lost his arm to Count Duku for the same reason before going full borg. He's still human, despite being more machine now than man, and is still subject to human emotions and flaws.
I had a nostalgic feeling when Bode punches Cal and the screen fades to black with a red vignette with Cal embracing the dark side. It reminds me of God of War 3 with Kratos punching Zeus to death with the screen fading to red only to change until you stop punching him.
This was so insanely cool, this is the first time I’ve seen Cal even come close to someone like Starkiller power. I really hope in the third game we get a Dark Side Skill tree. Like i don’t even want him to go full sith but like maybe grey Jedi? Like someone who uses both sides of the force would be really cool. The dark side skill tree could hold things like force lightning, force Rage, Force choke, maybe even some legend of abilities like force fire.
People are talking about how Merrin is bad for Cal (as an emotional attachment) yet the dogmatic view of the Jedi kept them from remembering that they originally HAD emotional attachments with people, which in turn made them stronger…. Kreia taught this to Meetra, who then taught the Order to embrace their attachments.
I sat on that "embrace your darkness" screen for a solid minute. I did not want Cal to win that way. Hated that the darkness was usable for the post game.
I love when character lightside turn darkside then lightside again. They the one who understand both sides and embrace it, they walk the grayest part of light. We know in the future cal able to resist the darkside.
Gray is bad. One should walk in the light. If one succumbs to the dark for a moment, then they must work that much harder in the future to resist the dark side. If one resists the dark side, that would make them a lightsider, not gray.
I doubt that Cal can be described as someone who walks grey path. Yeah, he slip up toward darkness because of the emotions, but he never embraced darkness. Someone like Revan would be a better example of that, considering he fully accepted dark side at certain point.

I hope we get a 3rd Jedi game but it's uncertain. It would be cool to see Cal fully turning to the dark side but i know that there'll be a portion of people that won't like the change
It'd be cool to see Cal go further to the dark side but only if we can still play as him. I have a feeling they'll have Cal become a Sith after Merrin dies and make us play as Bodes daughter to stop him. I'd rather not have to play as Kata.
Cal gave him one last chance, and he tried to murder both Merrin and himself. Even went so far as to use the Force on his little girl. When he pulled the trigger and the blaster clicked, Cal knew there was zero chance in trusting Bode ever again. He'd constantly try and kill them if given the chance, so he shot him. Then, he shot him again to make sure he was dead. Double Tap: For when you absolutely, positively NEED the target to die.
Merrin slaughtering dozens of conscripted imperials: 😎 Merrin while Cal slaughters even more: 😍 Merrin when Cal has the guy responsible for all of it at his mercy: “tHiS iS NoT yOu!!!”
Long Winded comment: Anyone saying you can’t have a dedicated jedi who somewhat mingles with the dark side obviously forgot Mace Windu. Because his lightsaber color and style came to symbolize that very thing across Star Wars cannon. Yes IRL Sam Jackson just wanted a purple saber but you know what I mean. It spurred an entire section of lore about how his fighting style puts him on the bleeding edge of the light/dark line which is why his (and one of Revans in KOTR) saber is purple, the mix of traditional “light” and “dark” saber colors. That in Windu’s case you can be “on the line” and still be for the “good guys”. Cere herself last game succumbed at multiple points to bouts of struggle with the dark side. It didn’t make her evil, it was something she learned to control. Not only that, but I was hyped to see Cal coming into the “grey jedi” thing. Finding love with Merrin being a big one, and something I hope the story writers really expand on if we get another game. I’m personally a fan. And I hope they do it much like this game. With natural feeling interactions, a good connection and *gasp* healthy qualities in the couple. For once let us have a healthy, “good for each other” Star Wars power couple. An example of the good qualities is when Merrin snapped Cal back with the imperial officer. Cal actually *listens* to her and the people who are good for him when they realize he’s going off course. He winds himself in. But it was also good having those “dips” into the dark but knowing how to come back, and having the real strength to listen to a vibe check. Anger is a healthy emotion to have after your very close friends where just butchered by the actions of a backstabbing, selfish asshole. Again, it’s not wrong that he’s angry, it’s learning how to handle said anger in healthy ways, often times with the help of loved ones. The scenes like the imperial guy about to catch a saber and Merrin talking Cal down show that. It’s something I’m sure a lot of fuckin dudes out there can understand in our real life, just to a less dramatic degree obviously. Anger about something awful isn’t bad. Aggression to protect yourself or loved ones is NOT bad. (Cal breaking Bode’s pummeling to get back in the fight, or Cal breaking the headlock to stop Merrin from choking) It’s when you let it make brash/harmful decisions for you when it becomes bad. Personally I’m in the camp that if anakin was trained by Qui Gon and if the Jedi weren’t so insanely stringent on the “no connections” thing, anakin would have been the ultimate “Grey Jedi” while having a family with Padme. He would have brought “true balance” to the force. Sometimes I like to think the sith v jedi issue is one of fictions best ways to show how to handle emotions as an adult with both main “sides” getting this woefully wrong: It’s not about having little to no emotions or romantic connections with the ones important to you (Jedi) It’s not about letting emotions/personal ambitions control you and your choices to the point you push away or hurt the very ones you wanted to protect (Sith) What it is about is having the emotions and connections in a healthy and controlled way to make yourself a more complete person, and in the world of Star Wars, make yourself truly one with the force (Grey Jedi like Ashoka and I hope, Cal Kestis) A great example of this is how Jolee Bindo describes it in KOTR.
Hear me out here. This game IS A MASTERPIECE, I would even go as far as to say it is one of the best Star Wars games I have ever played. That being said, I am happy with the ending the way it is, but i am just so curious. What if Cere lived and survived the incident in the archieve, and instead, when Bode is fighting Cal and merin on Tanaloor, Bode killed Merrin, turning Cal to the darkside. Cal then kills Bode in a fit of rage over Merrins' death and is only turned back to the light because of Cere and Greez. Dont get me wrong, Cere's death was executed beautifully, but what if. What do you guys think?

Here's the thing the dark side isn't bad it depends on how you use it and while it can corrupt people that's mainly because those people didn't have enough will power to resist it's effects
Well, I think it's different when you just tap into it for a short amount of time. I think the Force by default enhances and is enhanced by a Force User's stronger emotions. It's an unending loop if you don't gain control, hence why turning to the Dark Side warps you because you tap into those darker emotions so often and it changes you.

Even the most powerful used both sides: i.e Revan and Anakin. Balance is the true way of the Force, as it resides in everything, like Life and Death. Only by tapping into both will you know it's true face.
“Rather you than lord Vader”
Cal: Very poor choice of words (begins force choking)
There is nothing wrong with Jedi's embracing the dark side for 1 sec to save their friends. They can just turn back after they save their friends lol
@@slewone4905 But it's not Taoism, and in the end, the light should be the prevailing force.
Problem starts, when they embrace it too much and lose control.
Completely wrong. Jedi learn to let go what they fear to loose. We all become one with the force
@@DiogoJ1No, since there will still be an imbalance, light should not predominate as well as darkness
What I really like about this game is that it shows the dark side in all its power through cal, and how it’s so easy to fall for it, and a lot harder to avoid it
Cal should have a purple blade
It fits him with the fact he embraces both sides
good thing i changed my blade colour right at the start
Samuel Jackson: Ya welcome Muthaf$*!
I used Indigo blade after killing Dagan.
And...
*"CERE!!"* A round of applause for Cameron's performance, I felt that in my bones! 👏🏽👏🏽

You want to get down from your soapbox now?
It’s nothing so cerebral. Merely recognising the existence of necessary evil in tandem with harsh scenarios. Imperfect worlds with imperfect people have imperfect solutions. Navigating this mire of moral quandary is the best we can do, I quite simply acknowledge the writing for tackling it without excessive naïveté or edge.
Me spamming the dark side against any enemies that give me even the slightest trouble: yep, last resort, totally... 👀
I'd put this up there with some of the most intense moments in Star Wars. Cal embracing the dark side and inching closer to turning. I was basically begging Merrin through the screen, "Please, Merrin, bring him back!"
“You turned her against me?!”
“You have done that yourself!”
When I hear characters mentioning bringing balance to the force, I usually imagined something like this.
scary to think cal has anakins drive and passion to save the one he loves but for him there is no palpatine around so Hes lucky
Except the bloody guy Palpatine manipulated himself AKA Vader.
Embracing the dark side, is far different than being consumed by the dark side.
He didn't embrace the dark side!! He just killed an enemy combatant. That's self-defense, not malice
Jedi code probably 21
Don't kill an unarmed person. Nobody actually cares about that rule though.
It literally says “embrace the darkness” on screen as cal goes into a rage. What are you talking about
He used hatred to succeed.
The screen literally put "embrace the darkness"
The amount of flexibility in your brain is astounding. Somehow, you've managed to be wrong with a solid argument with literal proof right in front of you. You can do better, we all know you can.
Dagan monologuing as Cal is open for the killing blow is fucking hilarious tbh. Like bro finish him 😂 so extra
I think its pretty obvious Cal is going to become a grey jedi
Instead of choking people, Cal just crushes their internal organs.
This dude is supposed to be a Jedi.
3:32 U can Bode drew his blaster and was ready to shoot Merrin even when she was protecting Kata. He’s really lost his way.
This is all happens because he didn't get his damn PONCHO
fun fact, the last cutscene with denvik is the *only* cutscene, on PS5 at least, that is 60fps for a small amount of time
The dark side is like a gun it can be used for good or bad depending on the person
@Azuri e wrong the light and dark side or simply tools, its how you use them that defines your balance, queue Darth Revan
And just like guns, it's used mostly for evil than good.
If Cere didn't need the darkside neither will he.

What a coincidence!
Oh dang, that’s actually pretty cool!
"my crew... Cordova.... CERE"
even though he isn't, he sounds more in pain than any other character in Star Wars. dude was using force crush I believe, was bouta take him out from the inside out
Its awesome how there's whole comment threads still mad about Vader vs Cere.
Starkiller power ? Are you crazy? The power shown here is like a 1/65 part of the power starkiller has... cal is as much an average jedi
@@user-yy5yw9nw9e Cal isn't average Jedi,he's much above of that but Starkiller is like a thousand Jedi's level,so you're right
Merrin is Cal’s Anchor. As long as he has Merrin. Cal won’t be turned to the dark side of the force.
"Love will save you, not condemn you."
That was pretty much the whole point of Return of the Jedi.
I sat on that "embrace your darkness" screen for a solid minute. I did not want Cal to win that way.
Hated that the darkness was usable for the post game.
Honestly loved the small details, like the wheeze when Bode gets shot. Instead of just a cheezy insta dead flop.
@@DiogoJ1 When i play KOTOR 1 and KOTOR sith lords, my character meet the 2 masters that is in grayest side of force. They both experience what it feels on both sides. JOLEE balance himself able to use destructive power without losing himself to other side and Kreia just wanted my character to understand both side to create a something new path a neither light or dark involve. thats my understanding of it.
@@novanexus9112 I ignore their lessons, for it's all hogwash to me. Always stick with the light, as being in the light at max even gives you bonuses.
And as a result, Jolee isn't powerful in either side, just more versatile. Kreia on the other hand, never stopped being part of the dark side, which is why she's strong. A sudden change of perspective, wouldn't suddendly make her not dark sided, nor forget all the strength she already had.
Kreia was also crazy. One must choose one or the other, there is no point in creating a path that is neither. One must stick with one and accept the positives and negatives that come with it.
@@troller8680 Indeed, and for his troubles, Raven's spirit split into two, further proving that walking both paths at the same time is just not pratical.
I always hated that the dark side and light side are portrayed as absolutes. I want another starkiller that embraces the dark side while not fully falling to it
Yeah, it always struck me as ironic that Obi-Wan says "Only a Sith deals in absolutes!" when you consider how rigid and unbending the teachings of the Jedi Order are, lol. I like when narratives lean towards balance being a viable path, like in Jedi Knight - Jedi Academy, Kyle Katarn actually compliments your character if you've put an even amount of skill points in both light side and dark side powers.
I really enjoyed how Luke in Legends would use stuff like Lightning, because he rightly viewed force abilities as tools without inherent good or evil. I miss that
Thats becuase he was thee last known primal force user. Besides a couple other people before him.
That's because the force is a literal absolute, a metaphysical concept that incarnates in the everyday.

I really hope the third game takes full advantage of this moment. With Cal slipping further and further into becoming just like Bobe. Would be an interesting change to see that play out over the course of the game.
I hope we get a 3rd Jedi game but it's uncertain. It would be cool to see Cal fully turning to the dark side but i know that there'll be a portion of people that won't like the change
@@Kagetora-actually the director does plan for this to be a trilogy. So a third game is probably on the way.

Long Winded comment:
Anyone saying you can’t have a dedicated jedi who somewhat mingles with the dark side obviously forgot Mace Windu.
(Cal breaking Bode’s pummeling to get back in the fight, or Cal breaking the headlock to stop Merrin from choking)
It’s when you let it make brash/harmful decisions for you when it becomes bad.
Personally I’m in the camp that if anakin was trained by Qui Gon and if the Jedi weren’t so insanely stringent on the “no connections” thing, anakin would have been the ultimate “Grey Jedi” while having a family with Padme. He would have brought “true balance” to the force.
Sometimes I like to think the sith v jedi issue is one of fictions best ways to show how to handle emotions as an adult with both main “sides” getting this woefully wrong:
It’s not about having little to no emotions or romantic connections with the ones important to you (Jedi)
It’s not about letting emotions/personal ambitions control you and your choices to the point you push away or hurt the very ones you wanted to protect (Sith)
What it is about is having the emotions and connections in a healthy and controlled way to make yourself a more complete person, and in the world of Star Wars, make yourself truly one with the force (Grey Jedi like Ashoka and I hope, Cal Kestis)
A great example of this is how Jolee Bindo describes it in KOTR.
Windu’s fighting style taps into the dark side. It’s how he defeated Palpatine so easily. Palps wasn’t expecting it from a Jedi
Everyone has their breaking point, even a Jedi.

It's an unending loop if you don't gain control, hence why turning to the Dark Side warps you because you tap into those darker emotions so often and it changes you.

@@ThreadBareHope1234 My brother in Christ, what? The force is the raw magic energy in lore. The Jedis have a self-imposed cap on power. Their whole thing is about being detached and robotically adhere to rules for "The Greater Good". Dark siders also tend to believe that they have the answer for achieving their version of "The Greater Good." Both believe in a "Better World" but have differing views on the ultimate utilitarian justifications. If you just stop capping your growth in the force and path to possible God-Hood, then you basically by default take the path of the "dark side." According to the Jedi, even having a girlfriend that you love is a step onto the path of darkness.
Doesn't really matter much, since once you actually become a Force God, it's all the same to you and the scale of atrocities is miniscule compared to control over entire cosmic events.
