With smartphones having multiple in-built lenses, are lenses for your smartphone worth it? Should you buy a wide-angle and telephoto lens for your smartphones? Or are they a must-have accessory for any smartphone filmmaker wanting to get the best images out of their smartphone? In this video, we explore the options and why I believe you need them.

Great video, did you also try the Moment and Shiftcam lensen? I couldn't buy on the Sandmarc website it only shows the product without the option to buy?
I have always purchased from Sandmarc’s website. No, I havenMt tried those. I would love to but I have a finite budget to invest in gear… maybe one day either of those companies reach put to me or reply to any of my emails… 😊
Great Video Samuel i'm looking to buy a gimbal that i can use with my smart phone that has easy to use software and can film both verticle and horizontal, I saw your video and you saved me from buying the Osmo 6, which would you suggest to buy?

Great video, it's just a shame that many companies after nine months haven't created anything for the pixel 7 pro, whether it's a case that can take these lens attachment or the lens themselves

Hi Samuel, I trust so much your advice in your videos since you always are very honest on the highs and lows of the products you show. I have both Sandmarc ND filters and 3 lenses (telephoto, wide, anamorphic). ND filters are amazing but with lenses I have a problem where it is really hard to focus for pictures when I use the lenses (or I cant focus at all). And when I thread the filters on the lenses I get a visible vignette on the photo/video. Are you having those 2 problems? Any tips on how to fix them?
Hi! I have had all sorts of problems with lenses. I know exactly what you are going through. Please let me know thins, when did you buy your lenses? I had bought my lenses a few years ago and started to get images that were not pin sharp. It turns out that Sandmarc had improved their lenses as iphone cameras got better and better and sharper too. I had to changed for new lenses. In regards to focusing, I have experienced the issue using the default camera app and also filmic pro, totally randomly. Is that the case with you:? However, since I started using a camera app called Mavis Pro (or Atomos Pro app I believe it is called. Atomos has licensed the app to use it for their clients) the issue has not repeated. Now, Mavis Pro is not an app for the average user, and for many it will feel overwhelming, as it feels more like using a professional viewfinder, rather than one with a universal easy to navigate design. But the results I am getting is really good, despite the fact it doesn't film with flat color spaces. That would be another video in itself, the fake flat colot space in phone apps... Essentially, I think it is down to the apps. What do you think, does it make sense to you what I say?
@@SamuelSotiega I bought the wide lens back in November 2022 and the Telephoto in September 2022 (right before the released the new one). I am using an Iphone 13 pro max and sometimes the Iphone camera app but when it just does not focus I move to ProCamera that is the one they recommend to be able to pick the lens. I mostly use the main lens, using the telephoto lens gives some really bad results.

They look good but I haven't used them, so I can't give you an informed opinion. What annoys me though is that they make them in such a way that adding a filter on top is almost impossible.... This is what I like about the Sandmarc lenses, you can add filters on top and stick to the 180 degree rule.... But that's just me, and what works for me doesn't necessarily work for anyone else...
@@SamuelSotiega They habe a 67mm Phone Filter Mount, which works with most iPhones and with many other brands.
Additionally they offer a 67mm Snap-On Filter Adapter for iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max ( I have the Max) I‘m considering to buy Moment or Sandmarc🤔🤔
@@MathiasKropp Moment has a good reputation. I can't give you an opinion because I haven't used them. I wish I could though but maybe one day....
This is really helpful for making decision. Do we have the new upgrade version of Sandmarc Wide lens and Telephoto lens here ?
Yes, The only one caveat is that with their new wide angle lens, the front element diameter in slightly wider than with the telephoto, so you are unable to screw on their filters, which are 40.5mm. I have tried a 42>40.5mm step down ring but that is too small so I am returning it and getting a 43>40.5mm step down, which I feel now it is the correct diameter. As soon as I get it, test it and confirm it works I will leave a pinned comment in this video..., Hopefully that will help someone because I need to be able to screw my filters to the lenses and I believe the same applies to almost anyone who buys lenses....
@@SamuelSotiega I received the new Sandmarctelephoto lens today. Most of the time, I take more photos than videos. The question is, do I need to buy additional ND filters? Which one? What would you recommend?

yes if you can find them, they need to have a 40.5mm diameter.
Do I need a smartphone lens if I film ProRes log on my iPhone 15 Pro Max? Will a lense help and is it even good in this case?
If you watch the video, the same issues and advantages to using a lens remain with the latest iphones. Other than the main lens. The other 2 are useless the moment light starts to drop. Plus, you get better optic elements from a dedicated external lens than the built-in ones… But if you are able to watch the video, hopefully you’ll understand what I mean… 👍👍
I am interested in these lenses. However in the samples the Sandmarc lenses significantly affect the iPhones native color science, which in my opinion is excellent. The images taken with the Sandmarc seem to be noticeably on the warm side. I wish it didn’t have the affect. I’m guessing it’s the coating Sandmarc uses on their lenses.
I guess it is all down to personal taste. I like warmer colors in my footage and even when I grade footage,. I always have a tendency to warm it up.... But like everything in life, it's all down to personal taste...

I have been using lately a lot the hohem M6. I reviewed it, if interested… not perfect but for what I need s gimbal for, works a treat.
cmiiw you can't achieve shallow depth of field from shutter speed.
Jo, you can’t, but you get motion blur and a softer looking image, which helps in making it look more pleasant to the eye. For some that is worth something, for others it doesn’t matter. Just pick your side and happy filming!
Thanks again for a great video. Sad that i have a S23 Ultra. I think i will try the lenses and filters from freewell. But i got one point on your video which was not your average quality. The sound wasnt good in most of the video
Thanks for chipping in. I am waiting for some specific accessories for hiding in clothing a couple of new better lavalier mics at £250 a pop so I really hope things improve on that area. If they arrive in time for when I start filming my next video I will use them but I feel it will be not the next one but the following one.... I am acting on the feedback I get...

@@fastbricksrc6084 by the way, wait on the freewell filters. If you can. There is something new from them for their sherpa system next month. I would strongly recommend you avoid the variable NDs. They have horrible color hue shifting. I hope next month they’ll release straight NDs and that would be by far the best, unless they change the components and glass elements of the VNDs…
The differences are so subtle…
Well, in the telephoto is quite noticeable. And in low light the differences are substantial on both ultra-wide and telephoto... But then again, that is my opinion, and you might have a totally different one..
