I think when she says Single mothers in Kenya constitute like 90% is quite the exaggeration. If you go to many Kenyan estates, you will see very many stable families with present fathers. Kenyans are family oriented I can talk from what I see around me and what I have experienced. Not to say there are not many single mothers. I would say it's closer to 60:40 single mothers to married families. Still high but there are also quite a number of good men in Kenya and stable families. The interviewer also raised an important issue, the rise of single mother household means we are like raising future single families.

Wow! That single parent one in East Africa was a surprise. I thought it was un-African in general. As a Nigerian it's almost a taboo - of course, we have our single parents too, but it's not a common or normal thing in West Africa. At least, provide for the kids.

Unfortunately the Kenyans have been over exposed to westerners .The women I know are big feminists .Their culture has been eroded to the extent they have little moral expectations of marital fidelity from each other.I schooled with a few ,they were kind and sweet but extremely independent ladies.They wore their sarcasm and romantic disappointments quite audibly.The village mandate has been destroyed because their men , chiefs and other authority figures have been supplanted and usurped ,their power dissolved by Western court systems,local kingmakers are disparaged.
African men must regain their authority over their communities.They can form local councils to establish and restore cultural order .The youth must be taught listen and answer to their elders or the society disintegrates.Reprobate men impregnating and abandoning children and women is not African culture.

I think when she says Single mothers in Kenya constitute like 90% is quite the exaggeration. If you go to many Kenyan estates, you will see very many stable families with present fathers. Kenyans are family oriented I can talk from what I see around me and what I have experienced. Not to say there are not many single mothers. I would say it's closer to 60:40 single mothers to married families. Still high but there are also quite a number of good men in Kenya and stable families. The interviewer also raised an important issue, the rise of single mother household means we are like raising future single families.
