  • Update 23/03/2020 - Beat this lap ages ago but this lap overall is rubbish, poorly driven, apexes missed, not using the full track. The only good corner looks like turn 6! Will try and record another video at Daytona MK when this coronavirus situation has cleared up.

    Cool! I did a 1:12.189 last weekend. But it was my first time there. Is that a good time or bad?

      EthanRacingTorpedo That's not a bad time at all for your first time there, I think that is around what I did on my first go too 😊

      Hi Stuart! Glad you've been watching my videos for the last nine months :D Low 1:10s is actually very good for someone who hadn't been karting for 15 years! Yes I do have some advice that I'm sure will be helpful :) I have replied to your email... do check it out! :)

      The karts ain't equal either, I'm weighing in at 18 stone and my best is a 1.10, but on one occasion I was given a kart that was just lazy and I was running round running 1.12, in the end I bought my own kart and go to other tracks but it is nice to jump on a dmax now and again

    Hey man any tips n hints i can get i start karting racing RX250's at this track next month...im pratically a rookie..

      Hi there! For a rookie, I won't go into too much detail as to how to set a lap in the 68s... that is for when you get more experience! First few tips though... know the racing line, in the video above, it will give you a great idea as to what line is the fastest. Here are some simplified tips for you:
      Turn 1: Flat out and take tight.
      Turn 2: Take your time with this corner, don't brake too hard or go into this corner too fast, try and take this corner as tight as you can.
      Turn 3: Follows quickly after Turn 2, enter with plenty of time, if you leave your turning too late, you'll end up hitting the barrier!
      Turn 4: Slowest corner on the track, don't go too quickly into here, slow down plenty and go to the inside as much as you can (beyond the flat kerb), if you run slightly wide here, that's okay, but if you run really wide, you will lose a lot of time. If you don't like turning in early here, you can turn in a bit later and hit the apex.
      Turn 5: There is plenty of track here but you don't need all of it, keep tight for most of the corner then run wide on the exit.
      Turn 6: One of the trickiest corners in my opinion. Don't turn in too early otherwise you will run wide and into the barriers for sure. You won't like turning in late for this corner, but it is the best thing to do. More importantly, keep it smooth.
      Turn 7: Another hairpin, slow down in plenty of time, it is reasonably important to keep it tight but what is more important is your exit speed onto the downhill straight.
      Turn 8: This is a fast left hander before the tight corner onto the straight. This is flat out but as a rookie, lift, you want to make sure you are in full control of your kart.
      Turn 9: The reason you want to be in full control is because this corner is another tricky one. If you enter here too quickly, you are doomed. Just make sure you are control here, the only tip I can give.
      Turn 10: The looooong left hander, keep it tight the whole way. Lift, if it makes it easier, if you enter too quickly here and run off, you will hit the barrier.
      Turn 11: This corner is critical to be in control. If you lose the backend, you will lose a lot of time. Take this corner tight but not too tight. I cannot express how important it is to be at a good speed here.
      Turn 12: Not going to count the mini-right before the last corner. The last corner is quite easy, try not to let the backend slide too much, but it is okay if you do a little bit. Try not to go into here too fast otherwise you will end up in the pits!
      I really hope this helps, even in the slightest - good luck!
      - Dante

      How long have I been karting for me to get good enough to get that time? Or how many tries? I set this time on my 4th visit to the circuit.

    yep I've had that too to be fair to daytona though they said last week you really should race the in kart champs so your in a weight category i see you race your own kart this is something I'd like to do I went to kimbolton week before last seems pretty expensive what you do ??? I'd get one to to practice at whilton mill shame you can't have days to do same at daytona have you raced in d max champs???

    • @cocacolaholic

      You can buy yourself a full tkm kart for under £500 which will give you around 18 horsepower(dmax is around 15 horsepower) the tkm is faster accelerating and top end is higher depending on what gear you decide to run but all in all the tkm is a faster kart and is simpler to maintain. I would like to enter one of the heavyweight dmax races cause from looking at the heavy weight times I am already achieving them, the weight limit is 95kg for that category and I'm weighing in at 120kg so I think I'm actually doing rather well for my weight, the only way to judge your ability is to race against people similar to your weight. But anyway I think the dmax has been detuned for reliability reasons and to be honest that's perfectly understandable. I've been told the weight you want to be at is about 12 stone as its a good balance cause you do need some weight for stability and it won't affect you too much on the straights

    This is impressive, my best time around here is a 1.10 in a dmax, I am 18 stone tho lol

    • @DanteDhillon
      @DanteDhillon  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you :) 18 stone is pretty heavy so that is not a bad time at all :) My current best on this track in a Sodi is a 01:08.347, so just slightly quicker than the one in this video ^^ I am yet to attempt DMAX on this track, but I hope I do soon :)

      +Dante Racing X from what I can see here you know how to drive karts and with you on a dmax you will be threatening the Sebastian buemis time for sure, but yes 18 stone is a lot of weight to carry and the kart behaviour is very much different compared to how it would be with a lightweight driver, lightweight driver can slide the back about and the kart doesn't bog down, if I tried to slide the back it just bogs down, I have seen that there is a dmax heavyweight racing class and the times I run would be decent for that championship so I may try that at some point, but yes the acceleration difference between a lightweight driver and heavyweight is scary! Anyways I wish you well on the dmax, enjoy it cause it will be a real eye opener!

    • @DanteDhillon
      @DanteDhillon  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Being heavy in a DMAX is definitely harder compared to being heavy in a Sodi without a doubt! As you said, karts bog too much!
      Thank you very much mate, whenever I do go to MK to try out DMAX, I will post the video(s) on my channel :) Of course it will be the first time ever that I try so don't expect too much but I will try my best :D

    • @cocacolaholic
      @cocacolaholic 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      you have what it takes mate, you will be under 1.04 when you get used to it, when i first saw this video i was thinking "this guy is shit hot!" just out of interest what sort of weight are you? im guessing around 60kg?

    • @DanteDhillon
      @DanteDhillon  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No one has got under 1:04 in years! The 2011 DMAX karts were capable of under 1:04 but the current fleet on a good day is 1:05. Only seen a 1:04 set in the current fleet like once or twice! 1:04 is god time in the current fleet. 1:05 is a good aim! :)
      Kitted up with seat insert etc I'm about 57kg so yes around there :) A lot of people say being that weight is a huge advantage but what some people forget is that round corners, heavier drivers have less wheelspin and can take the corners faster, especially as they have the load on their kart to carry them round a lot more efficiently. So being 57kg compared to 70 or so kg doesn't make much of a difference. Being over that though will make a big difference! ;)
      Hahaha thank you mate I appreciate it :)

    to alex in January I weighed 14 10 I now weigh 12 9 had major diet!!! but to this day I have not bettered a 1 10.208 I raced and won last Sunday but it was extremely hot very slick so this may have something to do with it in the warmer months if be very interested on dantes times in this heat although I think they be good anyway I do believe there some truth in it
    had two dmax sessions now did 1.06.078 was well pleased they are brilliant to drive and I believe suit my style a bit more than sodi not an excuse tho!

    • @cocacolaholic
      @cocacolaholic 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The sodi kart only revs to about 4000rpm while the dmax revs to over 15000rpm, the weight penalty is worse in a dmax as it takes longer to get to 15000rpm than a sodi takes to rev to 4000rpm, think of the sodi as a turbo diesel and a dmax as a Honda vtec. But weight is a big factor in karting and it's said that every extra 10kg you carry over your opponents will lose you up to half a second per lap depending on the nature of the track, also no 2 karts are identical, some feel lazy compared to others. I have a few videos of me on dmax at Milton Keynes where I would be round the hairpin and onto the back straight with my foot on the floor and the lightweight driver just blasts past even tho I was on the gas a lot earlier than him
