In a bad accident where the driver may be injured, there are three things you should say:
      "Are you hurt?"
      "It's okay."
      and
      "Can you hear me?"
You can say all these things one after another without hesitating. Whatever they respond with doesn't matter that much. The purpose is to calm them and help them get ready to be taken out of the car. Sometimes they may be mentally impaired, or the stun from the collision may have made them forget where they are or that they were in a crash, so you want to be prepared for that kind of situation.

The only times I drive by is when there's already CLEARLY enough or too many people involved in the thing... If I see one or two cars just stopped and flashers going, yeah, I'll ease past about 25 to 50 feet, and get well off the side of the road to walk back and see what's needed immediately (if anything)...
BUT if I see a dozen cars lined up on the shoulder and starting to crowd into driving lanes (yes, I have seen this)... I'm going to do my best to get well and clear "the hell out of the way". The only thing I could contribute is adding to the crowd...
Likewise, if there just is NOWHERE to get off to the side safely, I'm driving on until I find a suitable spot to put the car and then walking back, or even just pulling into a gas station or similar to make a 9-1-1 call to see that it's handled. Sometimes, there's just nothing you can do... AND in my area there are lots of treacherous little stretches of road where there is NO cell reception at all. If dispatch can pinpoint my report to a wreck, and they already have help on the way, I'm good to leave... IF it's news to dispatch, I stick it out on the line and follow instructions. It's been more than once I've had to give locations similar to the following :
"Yeah, tell them to go past the first bridge northbound after mile-marker 53, and they'll find the UGLIEST little red Datsun 4 wheel drive on the right hand side of the second bridge. There's a skinny guy sitting on the roof of the cab. That's me."
I love life out here in "The Sticks" but it does come with a few odd caveats... like weird directions. ;o)

Restores your faith in humanity a bit, doesn't it?
I was in an accident where an elderly lady blew through a red light as I was turning and I smacked into the driver's side rear panel, even bent her axel. We both pulled over, I got out of my car, bright pink hair, and the first thing I did was got to her window. I asked her if she was okay, and she was too stunned to roll down the window to answer. Got her to roll it down and she was so upset and afraid I was angry. "I'm 84, I've never been in a wreck before, I'm so sorry!" We sat in my car to keep warm until the police got there for a report. I had reminded her it's called an "accident", not an "on purpose", and I wasn't mad at all. By the time the police got there, we were able to giggle about another "first" for her; we got to sit in the back seat of the police car while he got all the details.
She had been driving the same route home she did every night and just went onto autopilot. No one was hurt, and even though it wasn't my fault, compassion helped a LOT.

I was in line in my car to enter an amusement park. All of a sudden the car in front of me threw on their reverse lights and backed into me hard. I got out and was talking to the driver, a 17 year old girl, about what I needed - her driver license and insurance info. She kept trying to delay giving me the info because she wanted to call her parents first. Fine, no problem..... she calls her dad and as they were talking she calms down and her face lights up. She turns to me and says loudly and in a snarky tone while holding the phone towards me to get my reaction, "Did I hit you, or did you hit me? Because before I backed up, I checked my mirror and my passenger checked hers and you weren't there and then all of a sudden we felt a hit....." I replied, "Are you implying I rear ended you?" "I'm not sure, but I think you might have." I point to my car, "Do you see that little thing beside my rear view mirror, that's a dash cam and it's been recording since I left my house and is currently recording our conversation. Now, if you want to go this route, we can, but the police are going to be notified....." Now she starts crying and says on the phone "No dad, he has a dashcam and it's recording everything." Then come the waterworks, she starts trying to get me to talk to her dad, that he will take care of it etc. etc..... Finally I got the info out of her and had to get the front end of my car fixed. TL/DR - A dashcam saved my ass. Get one. EDIT Since I was called out for posting a fake story, here is a link to the accident. Right around 2:05 you can see her say "It's not my fault, okay!" Also, I make a brief appearance. My comment was, "Oh well, isn't this just fucking great!" The cam records in 3 minute intervals and I'd have to dig for the part where I point out the dashcam. th-cam.com/video/TMzyQ7kPB2s/w-d-xo.html

joe woodchuck yeah same happened to me. Some dumb distracted bitch started yelling at me after she rear ended me sitting at a red light. Said ‘I got kids I don’t need none of this shit.’ It’s like wow, you got knocked up. And I should care about that...why? And that gives you the right to yell at someone you run into the back of.... why? Go back and sit in your trailer park because you’re obviously unfit to operate a vehicle, much less operate in society.

  • @ZelosZelo

I like to do little surveys on what caused or could have prevented accidents. not just this vid overall so far 80% accidents are due to not being patient, i.e. crossing solid lines to get around a vehicle that seems to impede the speed you wish to travel, or other maneuvers designed to get out from behind the car in front of you. So if you want to eliminate 90% of accidents that could be caused by you...BE PATIENT. speed limit is an option, suggestion, not to exceed, and to be obeyed, even if you feel its safer to go slower, it is not necessarily- and in fact increases danger on many occasions.sooo speeders..SLOW DOWN< slow drivers SPEED UP, the goal here is conformity!

    • @ZelosZelo
      @ZelosZelo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

8-10% speeding-as in directly doing over the speed limit caused the crash, ........however, speeding also is included in the majority 70% because impatience normally causes speeding or bursts of speed (complicated)
7-9% distractions or not paying attention
1-3% not knowing how to interpret signs, markings, lights and other traffic control devices
      >1% right of way issues, i.e. my blinker is on they should have slowed down to let me over, or their blinker was on so I sped up because I did not want someone to get in front of me.

So many accidents could be avoided if you would just do that simple little thing turn your head and look it's not rocket science it doesn't take a college degree to figure it out I've been driving for 35 plus years that's one of the first things that I learned about driving and my dad was the one who taught me how to drive and believe me he tested me vigorously before I got behind the wheel
