  • In this episode you'll get to see myself and other staff install a new motorised cow brush along with 4 other fixed ones.
    Have to say the satisfaction of seeing them enjoy their new brushes was worth the time and money spent!
    Hope you enjoy the video and feel free to like, comment and subscribe!
    Thanks for watching

    When I was a young boy on the farm with about 100 cows total of various ages, one of the unwritten jobs for me, my sister, and my mother was to pet the cows and talk to them daily. Mostly when in the barn, but also outside in the pasture or in the barnyard holding areas. Some cows were less friendly, especially those that were purchased, while the ones that we had raised since birth enjoyed the attention. Most were happy just being petted on the head and neck and some were more aggressive and wanted to rub on us kinda roughly. I know us humans got some bruised arms and shoulders once in while from the ones who really wanted to rub. Most got named when they were young calves, but some got their names changed based on the personality of the cow herself based on our interactions with them.
    If only we had cow brushes back then. Today's bigger farms, even if there are farm kids around, cannot possibly personally attend to each cow every day like we used to. These brushes are amazing, whether stationery or with mechanical movement.
    Large portions of our pasture lands were wooded. Over time, the tree populations declined. Mostly because cows walk and trample on everything, but also because trees served as rubbing posts and cows would rub the tree bark right off of the trees.
    I think we did a good job keeping our cows happy. My father was excellent at monitoring each cow's health and nutrition (all done in his head with no computers) and the rest of us did our jobs of giving the cows personal attention every day. My father even taught us how to recognize young calves and heifers who needed a bucket of water brought to them (even with ready access to water already). The one thing I remember most every farm visitor saying is that our cows were all much bigger that most other cows they had seen -- every group of 4-H, and FFA kids and college students who visited the farm would say how our cows were huge compared to so many others.
    I just watched a few other videos where farmers got creative on where they placed the brushes (such as on logs out in the pasture) or where they sourced brushes (such as from car wash businesses). Farmers are always smart and innovative and creative and resourceful. Now that it is known how well cow brushes work, most farmers know that the investment in them is well worth it.

    I saw a farmer who attached a bunch of push `brooms to a pole. They worked perfectly. I think they were about twenty bucks each.

    Spent some time at my grandpa’s farm every year. Small 20-head totally manual operation. We used to hang the old-time “good” push broom-heads on poles and they’d go nuts for them. Had to be careful because the “good” broom-heads had wire-core centers and you didn’t want them rubbing too long. They also loved curry-combs all over their heads.

      I believe so also! Not only do they give the reward of happier cows and so better yields. It also cleans the animals too so it’s a win win!

    why are they so so so expensive?
    You can simply tie a hard brush to a log and that's it, no? Why 3.000 pounds ?

    • @Sine-gl9ly
      @Sine-gl9ly 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Because the main one is automatic, motorised andswivelling with a host of safety devices, giving just the right degree of pressure on the animal's skin. It's not 'just' a broom head on a pole, it _actively_ grooms the cattle from head to tail, getting to all the contours of their head, neck, back and tail.
      The equivalent alternative would be a team of people armed with curry combs working all day and night, grooming all the cattle from the skittish heifers to the calm old heavy yielder - and the bull as well, in many herds.
      How much do you think _that_ would cost?

    • @rezopolis
      @rezopolis 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@Sine-gl9ly Noooo true true true
      i made this question, and after went to watch other videos about and noticed that it is actually automatized and moves around the body of the animal
