Thank you for your video. You are the first I have seen that shows how the scanncut REALLY works. It does not always recognize everything that is stamped and the mats really do not retain their stickiness at all. The blue tape is a great idea. You clearly demonstrated how we will be required to reposition and scan repeatedly as the edges just do not get recognized all the time. Using this tool requires a great deal of patience and repetitive work as the scan and recognize mechanics do not work as well demonstrated by others. I struggle heavily with stamped images on colored card stock. In the end, it sure beats fussy cutting! Strong black ink on white work best and all lines all connected work quite well. I like how you showed how to delete images that did not scan well or the little spots that do get recognized. Thank you for your integrity and great demonstration.
Hi Kelly, notifications only appear for a second and so I just stumbled upon your comment and it made my day. Thanks for your thoughtful reply. I spend a great deal of time sharing what I have learned the hard way and I appreciate that you value my tutorials. I will keep the videos coming. I like to keep on recording, even when it doesn't go as well as I would like because that is crafting in the real world.
Clean your SnC mat with baby wipes after each use and it will retain it's stickiness. If it doesn't it's very easy to re-sticky it with a wide Zig pen.
Thanks for watching MaryJo. I've tried both of those techniques but they didn't work. I have about a dozen mats and none of them are sticky anymore. I'm curious as to your brand of baby wipes because mine seem to leave even more lint on my mats, making it much worse.
I use a store brand wipes with no alcohol or lotion. I wipe my mat with it, let it dry, and it's sticky again. I have a friend who only cuts fabric and she tells me using her original mat and all she does is use a baby wipe. If baby wipes don't help I clean the mat of ALL stickiness and then use a wide Zig pen to re-sticky it. I use just a drop of dish soap in warm water, cover the mat and let it sit for a while, then I scrape the surface of all residue until the mat is totally clean and smooth. When the mat is dry I use painters tape to cover the outside border where I don't want it sticky, then use a light coating of Zig glue. Let it dry thoroughly and it's ready to use again. Don't use too much Zig! The first time I did this I put on way too much glue and it was so sticky I couldn't get anything off the mat...lessons learned! lol
Gloria Pollack Thanks, I hope you will check out my play list on the Brother ScanNCut. I also have an entire Basics series on TH-cam. Let me know if you need the links.
Thanks for watching Mar. I'm about to create another tutorial on how to cut both the inside and the outside of the scissors out so please subscribe so you can find my latest tutorials easily.
Thanks for the fantastic tutorial. I have my Scanner for a couple years and gave up because I wasn't having any luck and was buying matching dies. I'm hoping to get the hang of it to stop buying dies. Thanks and.
Thanks Dorothy, try not to get discouraged because even I don't get consistent results. I have to move my stamped images to different parts of the mat to get them all to cut out. I have loads of tutorials on the ScanNCut. Here is a link to one of my play list. th-cam.com/play/PLQq1-zAm_mlpA3MyqI4DbKwGZlI4mZnAY.html
Thank you. I don't have my ScanNCut2 yet but I'm watching how people use it. Wouldn't it be easier to color all those images before you cut them out? Or would the machine not cut them out after they are colored?
Robin, it is absolutely better to color AFTER you cut for several reasons. The first is that if you color outside of the lines, you will cut around the color instead of around the well defined black or dark stamped image. The second reason is that not all images scan and cut equally. You could spend a lot of time coloring and then that would be the one area of your mat which just doesn't scan and cut the way you want it to. The next thing you know, you will be turning your mat upside down and re-positioning the paper to try and cut again. If you didn't have much time invested, you can give up and just not cut that area. However, if you have spend time coloring it in, you will fight with the machine. There are other reasons too but those are the main ones. I hope that you will use my link when purchasing your ScanNCut. Thanks for watching. Still don’t have a Brother ScanNCut? Please use my affiliate link to purchase one: amzn.to/2qMVNUq
It’s much easier to color them when they’re all on the paper together. But if you’re not sure how you’re going to use them in different cards, then hold off and wait till after you’ve finished cutting and removed them. You can also stamp or print the image on the paper, then scan and cut them. But before removing them, do the coloring then.
Are you able to ask the machine to cut out the inside of the scissor handles? I got a brother scan ‘n’ cut Disney for Christmas and am only now getting time to get to it, so I too are watching all your tutorials... Thank you for sharing. 🌹Rosie of Oz🇦🇺 with Omega the cavalier🐶
Oh Yes! I cut the scissors a while back with the CM model. With the SDX, you can even go one step further and create an offset layer on the inside of the scissors. This will get you started. th-cam.com/video/dznTCPdQpDI/w-d-xo.html
Your videos are of great help. I've been binge watching them lately. Thank you very much. I have a clue on the mat stickiness not lasting very long... even though tempting and fast, all the bending and hand maneuvers you make to release the cuts contribute to expedite de loss of the stickiness: when you bend, you mechanically "brake" the sticky surface that will of course break over time, much faster, right? It's like your healing cutting mat. Eventually won't heal, if you stress too much, this will happen faster. For the chemical point of view, our skin is oily... no matter how clean we are, we are constantly producing oil... using your hands will accelerate the loss of stickness both mechanically (each touch to the mat will represent wear), and chemically (we're oily). Consider experimenting one mat using only tweezers, hooks and the spatula (no bending or hand touching) to see if it works longer.
Eric, I'm so flattered to have someone binge watch my videos! Thanks for your comments. I have a Cricut as well and the mats stay sticky for hundreds of cuts. I think you are on to something about the way I handle my mats as compared to how an average person handles them. Still, they don't stick even when you don't touch them. I know this because I helped a library set up their Brother ScanNCut. The librarian was obsessed with the cute little spatula which came with the SNC. They did just a couple of cuts and the mat stopped sticking. We had to use Painter's Tape on DAY 1. I have over a dozen of the SNC mats. I've tried several types and tried cleaning them and resticking them. They just don't stick. I even had the brilliant idea of buying extra Cricut mats and cutting them apart to attach them to the center of the Brother mats. That didn't work because the plastic wouldn't stick to the other plastic and it was also too thick to fit through the SNC. Either way, I absolutely LOVE my ScanNCut and use it all of the time. I use it more than most people do and I do put it through its paces. The machine does a great job and has a great blade too. Please continue to make such insightful comments because I love chatting with other crafters. You Rock!
Papered Chef here in Brazil it's become a trend to use double side contact instead of bothering with resticking (plain tape is awful with fabric, it puckers in the center)... Good brand contact works longer than any other method I've tried. Well, my scanncut is relativelly new, but I quilt... and cut patterns straight on fabric... so it has seen some work. Thanks for your kind attention and please overlook any language issues...
Now that is a brilliant idea. I haven't tried double-sided contact paper. It can't hurt and I will give it a try because I have a lot of it in my stash. Never tried fabric yet but my Mom is a seamstress and I showed her the machine and she wants to know more. She is old school and cuts all of the patterns from her head without using any patterns. I can only imagine what she could do if I would be able to cut some patterns out for her.
Papered Chef she will get addicted - amazing for applique and perfect for quilting (there are preset blocks...). But I love drawing the patterns... today I was watching you do the pinwheels with the fancy cutter and did take some screenshots to draw it, it's in my to-do list... first because the machine is quite an investment around here... and then I thought further personalization could be interesting (cuts and embeded details to the flaps). I'll definetly tell you if it works and send you the fcm for you to play. Thanks again for the attention, and for all the trouble you go through to help people. I keep on watching and learning a lot here! Good night...
Thas t was fun watching your stamped images being cutout!! I love doing this and it never gets old. Your video will so helps those just getting started you are a fabulous teacher!! YOU SO ROCK!! Joan Smith
Thanks Joan. If you are like me, you will start looking at every purchase and asking yourself "I wonder if I can cut that out with the Brother ScanNCut?"
Thank you so much for your tutorials! Do you know if there is a way to reset the number of the saved files on the CM350? I have deleted many saved files on the machine and would like for the numbers to start over at 1. Thanks again for your videos!
I couldn’t find any information on doing this but I know that you can reset your machine back to the manufacturer defaults. Call Tech Support and they can help you. I personally love having all of my files handy but I can see how you would want to start at zero.
Hi, I’m a fellow Stampin Up demonstrator and I just bought the brother scan n cut SDX1000...I stamped the new rabbit stamp out of the Occasions catalogue and I wanted them to cut a .5mm boarder but it cut the rabbit into sections like head, ears, body How do I set the machine to cut around my stamped image like they have been run through a big Shot? Please if you could help me that would be awesome 😎
I reached out to you about a month ago about buying a scan and cut and wanted to buy it through your Amazon account. I noticed there ate two DX,SDx125 machine one $399 and one $299. Do you the difference.? Maybe the cheaper one has fewer fonts . But $100 is a big difference
Christine, I don't actually sell the ScanNCut. I just purchased a couple of them from Amazon and so I recommend the models I use in my tutorials. I don't know why their prices fluctuate so much. I guess it has to do with supply and demand. Maybe a lot of people are using them more due to so many people crafting more. With more time on our hands, there is more time to craft. Here are the ones I recommend. You don't need extra fonts because you can download an infinite number of them online. Papered Chef ok I thought the $399 was good because it’s quieter and a new model which should last me a few years. The only difference between the two DX models I found was fonts choices and material thickness the blade goes through which I don’t care about. Can you send me your Amazon link so I can buy it and get you some credit. You’re the person that has really taught me how to use it.
@@christinepastrama1275 Thanks so much Christine for using my links and supporting my channel. sandyscrap Oh yes, of course it will. If there are black lines around the stamped images, use the black and white recognition mode. There are two reasons I never color and then cut. If you color outside of the lines, it will cut around your mistake instead of around the black line. The other reason is that not all stamped images cut so you may spend a great deal of time coloring and then that would be the one which didn’t cut out that day.
I think that machine acts more like a Cricut where you cut from files you design. I highly recommend the Scan N' Cut. Please check out this blog post where you can see some examples and a link to buy one from Amazon. thepaperedchef.com/top-5-reasons-why-every-crafter-needs-a-brother-scan-n-cut
Amber, I found this review on the Design N' Cut. I hope this helps. I will stick with the Scan N' Cut for all of my needs. I love how I can scan images and they are cut out in the exact size or with a border. With the Design N' Cut, you have to capture images in a different way and manipulate them with software. joyslife.com/new-electronic-cutting-machine-brother-designncut-2017/
Your videos are excellent! I learn very well from your demonstrations. I do have a question. Each time I move one of the two selector arrows on the selection screen after scanning with my 350 SNC, each time my machine says ‘processing’. How do I turn that option off. It’s a time killer, tho moments at a time. I saw on your videos it does not happen. Its actually unnecessary. Can you advise? Thanks and keep up the good work.
Jean Powell Hi Jean, thanks for watching and for your comments. This never happens to me unless I’m in Color Recognition mode. Everything takes longer to process when you are in that mode, even if there are only black lines. Could that be the case? If not, take a picture of your screen. I may be able to better help you troubleshoot that way.
Papered Chef Thanks for your quick reply. I’ll check to see if I’m in color mode otherwise I’ll snap a pick and send it. Thanks so much for all you do. Your help is appreciated.
I went in today and checked out the ‘processing’ during the editing and you are right. Thank you. It was getting ready to drive me nuts, especially when I’m short on time and taking up time Thanks again for your help.
It is best to start with something with good contrast. Just die cut out something in black and place it onto a white background. I just did a video on this last week. I’ll share the link.
Mrs S Oh yes, any paper. In my Basics course, I show how to cut three weights of card stock. Here is a coupon. I’m working on an Advanced course now and I show how to cut Vinyl, many kind of paper and even poster board. www.udemy.com/brother-scanncut-basics/?couponCode=PAPEREDCHEF2018
Oh yes, the ScanNCut will cut fabric. You just need a support sheet. My next video I'm preparing for now is how to cut out stencils using the Deep Cut Blade. I will try to create a fabric tutorial soon. My Mom sews but she is old school and cuts everything by hand.
You can but if your intent is to get them all to cut out, that might not happen. I color my images later for several reasons. I like having lots of stamped images cut out and depending on the projects I'm doing, I can color them with coordinating colors. Another reason is that it will cut around your mistakes. If you color outside of the lines, the SNC will cut outside of the lines making your edges bumpy instead of smooth. Another reason is that not all stamped images cut out. You will spend hours coloring and then you can't get them all to cut out and you are forced to fussy cut. Still, lots of people color before cutting. It is a personal preference so you should do what works for you.
I don't have a Silhouette. From what I gather from this article which I will link - NO, not the same. The real benefit of using the Brother Scan N' Cut is that you can use it right out of the box and without being hooked up to a computer (although you have that option). The other machines allow you to scan things in (so does my Cricut). However, you still need cut lines. That means editing time for you within the software program. I may be wrong but that is what I gather from this. www.silhouetteamerica.com/pixscan
Oh yes, of course you can. There are a few reasons I don’t but one is because not all stamped images cut out correctly and your would ruin all of your work if they don’t cut out.
Hi PaperChef What ScanNCut have you got.....!!!!!.... As I have the Blue model CM 550 What is there BLUE tape that you are using also please. Great tutorial using Stampin' Up products Also I've just subscribed to your channel. Looking forward to watching you make more goodies with your machine. I've had mine now for over 2 years but at the moment don't have time to play with it BUT after watching u I'll definitely have to get mine out LOL...!!!... Thx U so much Rhonda Laine from Sydney Australia Xoxoxoxox
Hi Rhonda, I have the CM300 which is like the CM350 as far as the menus and options. I hope you use it more. The best part about the machine is that you can use it without being hooked up to a computer. I will link to my two latest videos here. I wanted to answer your question about the tape. I just use Painter's Tape. You can purchase it at any hardware store. You can use low tack tape from a craft store but it is more expensive than Painter's or Masking tape.
Hi PaperChef Thank you for the info about the blue tape. I'm on school holidays (YIPPEE) at the moment soooo I'm hoping to have a play with mine while watching your U Tube tutorial. Thank U so much xoxoxox P.S. Merry Xmas and a safe and Happy New Year for 2018 to you and your Family too.xoxox
Hi SDM Fann, it’s a combination of both. The machine sounded loud because it was closer to the microphone than I was. In my latest video, I moved the machine farther away while it was cutting. Here’s the link. I hope you check it out. th-cam.com/video/7zM6drCsFO4/w-d-xo.html
Jazzie Red Oh my! That would be disturbing. Someone had a similar thought when the set first came out. They colored them 50 different colors and called it “50 Shades of Stampin’ Up!” as a spoof on the film.
Hi Noelia, thanks for watching. I use Whisper White card stock by Stampin' Up because it is smooth and has excellent color absorption. There is a link to my store and this product at the bottom of the blog post I just published. You can get the paper from my store. thepaperedchef.com/lemon-zest-matchbook-tea-bag-holder
Oops, I just watched my video again (it has been a while). The paper is 12 by 12 so it was most likely not Whisper White. I think it was some nice smooth card stock I had which I bought at Joann. It worked really well. If I have any more, I will try to find the brand on the label.
Hi my machine I’m still getting used to it. It cut inside my image and than was trying to cut the words individually. Do you know what I am doing wrong? Is it supposed to be in half cut when cutting stamped images direct cut?
When I received my mat out of the box, my paper would just slide off, no tack to it whatsoever ever. It’s been about 4 yrs now and it sits in the box, but watching your videos has given me inspiration. Thank you for sharing your gift of crafting, I’m going to give it another shot :)
I’ve just bought a ScanNcut so I’m binge watching all your videos Thank you so much xx😀💚

Clean your SnC mat with baby wipes after each use and it will retain it's stickiness. If it doesn't it's very easy to re-sticky it with a wide Zig pen.

Can you send me your Amazon link so I can buy it and get you some credit. You’re the person that has really taught me how to use it.
Oh I see the difference ... one is new the other is slightly used. I want the new.
@@christinepastrama1275 Thanks so much Christine for using my links and supporting my channel. It doesn't matter which link you click on as long as you get something within 24 hours from clicking on the links. I think that is how long the links are good for. Either way, when you are ready, start shopping by using one of these links.

I do this all the time I hate fussy cutting so I make my brother scan n cut do it lol love it
Not only do I hate fussy cutting, I'm also really bad at it. Thanks for your comment.
Yeah I’m not good at it either no patience
Would it also cut out stamped images that I coloured with markers first?
sandyscrap Oh yes, of course it will.
Yours did a great job
Jeanne Luddeni It’s comments like this which keep me going. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video. Do you know if the Brother DesignNcut will do the same thing?
Thanks so much for following up here. Glad your mystery is solved and that your ScanNCut will stop wasting your time.
Will it scan and cut colored die cuts? Will it show up in color is my question.
It is best to start with something with good contrast. Just die cut out something in black and place it onto a white background. I just did a video on this last week. I’ll share the link.
I think this may be what you are asking. Here is a video on scanning in the dies. th-cam.com/video/eK0NxZxRjYc/w-d-xo.html
Which paper should we use with this machine ? Any paper?
Mrs S Oh yes, any paper. In my Basics course, I show how to cut three weights of card stock. Here is a coupon. I’m working on an Advanced course now and I show how to cut Vinyl, many kind of paper and even poster board. www.udemy.com/brother-scanncut-basics/?couponCode=PAPEREDCHEF2018
Thank you so much :)
Oh yes, the ScanNCut will cut fabric. You just need a support sheet. My next video I'm preparing for now is how to cut out stencils using the Deep Cut Blade. I will try to create a fabric tutorial soon. My Mom sews but she is old school and cuts everything by hand.
Wold it be better to color the images before cutting?
You can but if your intent is to get them all to cut out, that might not happen. I color my images later for several reasons. I like having lots of stamped images cut out and depending on the projects I'm doing, I can color them with coordinating colors. Another reason is that it will cut around your mistakes. If you color outside of the lines, the SNC will cut outside of the lines making your edges bumpy instead of smooth. Another reason is that not all stamped images cut out. You will spend hours coloring and then you can't get them all to cut out and you are forced to fussy cut. Still, lots of people color before cutting. It is a personal preference so you should do what works for you.
can you do the same thing with the silhouette pix scan, do you know?
I don't have a Silhouette. From what I gather from this article which I will link - NO, not the same. The real benefit of using the Brother Scan N' Cut is that you can use it right out of the box and without being hooked up to a computer (although you have that option). The other machines allow you to scan things in (so does my Cricut). However, you still need cut lines. That means editing time for you within the software program. I may be wrong but that is what I gather from this. www.silhouetteamerica.com/pixscan
I was never successful with the pix scan, I could never get it to work. Haven't used my Cameo since I got my SnC. Love my SnC!!
Can you color and then I scan and cut
Oh yes, of course you can. There are a few reasons I don’t but one is because not all stamped images cut out correctly and your would ruin all of your work if they don’t cut out.
Thank you because I just don’t know what I’m doing and it kind of confuses me thank you I watch you every day God bless
Hi PaperChef
What ScanNCut have you got.....!!!!!.... As I have the Blue model CM 550
What is there BLUE tape that you are using also please.
Great tutorial using Stampin' Up products
Also I've just subscribed to your channel.
Looking forward to watching you make more goodies with your machine.
I've had mine now for over 2 years but at the moment don't have time to play with it
BUT after watching u I'll definitely have to get mine out LOL...!!!...
Thx U so much Rhonda Laine from Sydney Australia
Xoxoxoxox
Hi Rhonda, I have the CM300 which is like the CM350 as far as the menus and options. I hope you use it more. The best part about the machine is that you can use it without being hooked up to a computer. I will link to my two latest videos here. I wanted to answer your question about the tape. I just use Painter's Tape. You can purchase it at any hardware store. You can use low tack tape from a craft store but it is more expensive than Painter's or Masking tape.

Party Pandas too. thepaperedchef.com/cutting-stamped-images-brother-scan-n-cut-party-pandas
Hi PaperChef
Thank you for the info about the blue tape.
I'm on school holidays (YIPPEE) at the moment soooo I'm hoping to have a play with mine while watching your U Tube tutorial.
Thank U so much xoxoxox
P.S. Merry Xmas and a safe and Happy New Year for 2018 to you and your Family too.xoxox
Merry Christmas! So glad you have time to have a You Tube crafting marathon. Please check out all of the other Scan N' Cut tutorials in the play list.
Is the machine really that loud or is that because of the microphone?
Hi SDM Fann, it’s a combination of both. The machine sounded loud because it was closer to the microphone than I was. In my latest video, I moved the machine farther away while it was cutting. Here’s the link. I hope you check it out. th-cam.com/video/7zM6drCsFO4/w-d-xo.html
It's pretty loud but you don't have to babysit the machine. You can walk away as it's doing its thing.
At first glance I thought the clothes pin were women tied up, and I thought, that's a disturbing stamp... 😲
Jazzie Red Oh my! That would be disturbing. Someone had a similar thought when the set first came out. They colored them 50 different colors and called it “50 Shades of Stampin’ Up!” as a spoof on the film.
thx for the giggle
LoL
What’s the paper you used?
Hi Noelia, thanks for watching. I use Whisper White card stock by Stampin' Up because it is smooth and has excellent color absorption. There is a link to my store and this product at the bottom of the blog post I just published. You can get the paper from my store. thepaperedchef.com/lemon-zest-matchbook-tea-bag-holder
Papered Chef aww! Tks! I am a fellow demo too!! In Puerto Rico. I agree that’s a goid paper😜😜
Awesome. I hope you didn't suffer too much damage from the hurricane. I especially hope all of your craft supplies were salvaged.
Oops, I just watched my video again (it has been a while). The paper is 12 by 12 so it was most likely not Whisper White. I think it was some nice smooth card stock I had which I bought at Joann. It worked really well. If I have any more, I will try to find the brand on the label.
Papered Chef okay!!😂
Me encanto
Yolanda Alvarado Thanks for watching Yolanda!
Incredibly loud.
Yes, the newer SDX models have whisper quiet technology. That is one benefit of upgrading.
Hi my machine I’m still getting used to it. It cut inside my image and than was trying to cut the words individually. Do you know what I am doing wrong? Is it supposed to be in half cut when cutting stamped images direct cut?
That’s terrible, shouldn’t have to do that with the spatula. I have this machine and rarely use it due to the mats.
Elaine, I made this video so long ago. My mats are no longer sticky and even after I restick them, the paper comes off very easily.
When I received my mat out of the box, my paper would just slide off, no tack to it whatsoever ever. It’s been about 4 yrs now and it sits in the box, but watching your videos has given me inspiration. Thank you for sharing your gift of crafting, I’m going to give it another shot :)
