I hate how the gcse is more focused on linking ur art with artist's and how good ur sketchbook looks overall rather than actual technical skill like control of values, composition, form ect... But congrats on getting a 9 👍
Dominykas Motiejunas i deffo think there need to be adjustments but on the bright side looking into artists a lot helps influence and make you better x it also helps to avoid bias over what good art is bc everyone has an opinion on it - thankyou so much on the congrats and if ur taking the gcse rn goodluck and if u already have i hope u did well💛💛💛

It just takes time and practice to get better,and don’t compare yourself! Everyone started horribly and then they got better with practice and they studied it so don’t be hard on yourself : )

It's so frustrating for me taking GCSE Art because I've always loved art but in my school we have no freedom. We can't choose an artist or style or even materials. My teacher chose dark themed artists they described as 'grundgy' and it's honestly not my colour palet type. No one in my class enjoys the art we do as we have to trace everything from another artists style and colour. We can't recreate it, just copy which is unfair to us as individuals as we have different strengths and weaknesses for example some people prefer realism and others prefer comic art or abstract art. Some dislike paints others dislike pencil crayon. Our scheme of work is a mess and I honestly don't enjoy art as much anymore which truly devistates me😔
That’s so sad :( teachers should be inspiring and wanting you to create great stuff
My teacher was like this too ugh, so frustrating. Whenever we asked to do anything we really knew we could do to the best of our abilities she would refuse and make us do some stupid grungy/gothic style art. We did shells, bones, fish.. In the end I just did loads of surrealism work and fortunately she approved, I got an 8 despite literally no annotation haha. But yeah, literally everybody in our class grew to hate art because we could never do what we wanted. Such a bad teacher, even now she refuses to give me my art work back so it’s stuck up on the wall for everybody to rip and draw on.
i’m so happy my school isn’t like this with art. basically we have a topic, (for example, a still object) and we’re allowed to draw it however we want. we have a lot of freedom and they want us to find an art style. being forced to do something just so you can pass isn’t art. it’s the creativity that makes it art. thanks for coming to my ted talk

don't listen to ur teacher, he's wrong in so many ways an exam board wants u to use artists to improve ur work not just copy xx

same, my teacher is awful and uncreative and messed up our coursework so now we're having to re-do loads and i don't really have the time for it because i do two other coursework subjects
(music and food tech) and i also need to start revision for my GCSEs so... im stressed.
This really helps to show how much you have to annotate and show development in your sketchbooks thank you this has helped loads

I remember doing GCSE art, convinced that’s what I wanted to do with my life. I was under so much stress from all of my other subjects I was initially graded a 4, my predicted grade was a 7. Literally the most demotivating thing ever.
Fast forward 2 years, I’m going to do biomedical science in university instead lmao
I'm in year 10, and I'm doing GCSE Art. Our first exam is on Nature into Abstraction. My final piece is going to be about Sunflowers (funny how I love Sunflowers and hate drawing botanical, flowers, but yet I'm doing a piece on flowers) Anyway, my sketchbook is finished but I have taken a lot of pictures, yet it's slightly empty. Watching yours makes me feel embarrassed 😂 But our next topic is Identity, and I'm so excited as I love to draw faces, people in general. My uncle is an art teacher and he loves my work. I'm scared I'll fail because my friend (who's in another class) is nearly finished her 2nd sketchbook!!
Mavis Bliss Blue HONESTLY ULL BE OK!!! It’s great to be able to compare your work with people but also realise everyone goes their own way - loads of people finished all their sketchbooks and i finished my topicals but had tonsssss of pages left. All your coursework is counted collectively, not just each sketchbook individually so u might not like flowers (for me that was contained spaces) but i lovED identity. As long as u use primary sources different mediums and annotate annoatate annotate it should be ok!!! I’m no expert but listen to ur teachers and that worked for me x

sairh I think it's the work on the thumbnail mixed with the fact everyone's been given their themes/topics now 😂 I found it very useful tho
We aren’t allowed to do sketchbooks and I hate that cause we have to just put all our artwork in a plastic folder whereas in sketchbooks you took photos, wrote about your work, played around with the layout, could stick in doodles etc. And we only have the artwork we’ve done in class and it’s just in a folder.
We’re doing line work in black and white, literally just lines in different directions

Stick your work to pieces of paper that match your folder size and put them in, that way you can organise your pieces how you want (thats what i did anyway, makes it a lot easier to manage)

I love this video so much, I’m in year 11 right now and we just got our final exam topics back to decide from. I have chosen Abstract as i can focus of faces and just create them in abstract ways. I can do great pieces of art but i just struggle at laying it out and annotations but now i can referrer back to this for help. @@es-rh8oo lucky I knew this, there were people in my class who didn't and I felt so sorry for them wasting their time...I traced everything before hand and asked my teacher to make sure but he nvr announced this to the rest of the class so nearly everyone drew everything in the exam
lol time to yeet my hopes and dreams down the drain, my course work is due in today and my book looks so disorganized and shit. My class weren't really told what to do until year 11, so it was just a mess of struggling to get all the work we could use together and trying to scrape some marks and make our work look somewhat presentable. I wanted to become an art therapist, but whatever I'm not bitter or anything.

Im choosing my options next month and I’m hoping to choose art. I’m really nervous because I want to do well but I cannot draw realistically, however my art teacher said that if I keep up the good work I can get at least an A. Hoping for the best!
Hayley Griffiths u don’t need to draw realistically and fbh u don’t need to do fancy fancy things!! it’s about adapting from artists and experimenting x i’ll get better as you go along and trust ur art teacher - if u try hard ull do really great ❤️
DO NOT DO ART GCSE worst decision of my life! It’s made me hate art with a passion even though my head is artistically gifted (not a flex just saying I should have loved it) it’s only copying and has ridiculous deadlines. Unless you want to spend every lunch in an art room Xx

You can do any type of work plus when I started I was at around a grade 4 and by the end I got an overall grade 9 at gcse, trust me not all the best artists get the best grades - just gotta work hard and have a passion for it - would love for you to check out my art sketchbook video :)

To everyone saying they’re going to fail art, it’s actually quite hard to actually fail if you actually put the effort in! I know looking at all these amazing sketch books it looks terrifying but as long as you try your best in it you will do fine!

Charlie Williamson primary sources are like pictures u take urself or if you draw an object/model from real life x secondary is like copied from magasines or off the internet💛💛
