I have just started the keto/carnivore thing and Dr. Cywes' videos have been a great help. However, I am a skeptic by nature. I got through about 25 of Dr. Cwyes' videos until I started to seeing the ads for the exogenic ketones product. For me, any time there is a "product" associated with info, I raise an eyebrow. When I see "Coffee is great for you" info being shared by the owner of a coffee company, I have an auto reaction that I have to try hard to ignore. Follow the dollar has always been my mantra. Still, I have learned so much for Dr. Cywes that I am willing to go along.

Wow. I remember the good old days when my grandparents grew their own fruits and vegetables, raised and processed all their meats and dairy, and made molasses and jellies. Ate varities of foods.
They smoked pipes, chewed tobacco, walked miles, split wood, ploughed and logged with horses and mules.
Stitched themselves up if need be, set bones and never hardly ever got sick.
    They lived to early 90's.
Now a days we buy our food and walk to bed, to toilet, to fridge, to car, to easy work and back again.
No wonder we're a nation of sick folks.

I'm 63 years old...my grandmother started me on coffee at the age of 12😅
Big coffee drinker all my life till a few years ago when a TH-cam post by Paul Saladino convinced me that it's really bad for you...I switched to tea and I was okay with that but now...after years without...I'm back onto the coffee thing. So this information is "right on time" for me. 😅

Coffee is loaded w/ antioxidants & polyphenols but rather than sweeten w a nasty toxic pink yellow or blue, use allulose & heavy cream, & a splash of half & half, now you have a gourmet cup of very healthy coffee that will help in weight loss since you need fat to lose fat & can add Ceylon Cinnamon if having w carbs (preferably low carbs!🎉

Coffee is not just one ingredient and water. In coffee, there are thousands of chemical compounds foreign to our bodies and I am quite certain, that many of them are antinutrients (including caffeine) for our metabolism in the same way as it is with all other seeds. Many people can handle it, but some of us do not. I personally have quite low tolerance for coffee with obvious symptoms like headaches and heart palpitations.

I have been carnivore for 3 years 5 months. And coffee is a seed. A plant. And addictive. I cant do addictive substances.

My idea is that the worst thing for pregnancy is leaky gut!
Even something healthy can can harm because your sink is leaking. If I tell you why then I know you will weap.
Theory: gluten and fructose damage the gut lining. Emulsifiers dissolve the protective mucus layer.

Thank you for such a delightful guest. OH, this is like opening a Christmas gift in March. Incredible: more evidence of the joys of coffee! Coffee trees also make huge, glossy house plants with beautiful red coffee berries. (Dr. Cywes you should have one on your Florida patio.) Save the spent grounds for fertilizing your indoor and outdoor plants too. A perfect plant.

I've always loved coffee. Been drinking it since I was about 8 years old growing up in Brazil. My issue with it now is that I get a histamine reaction if I have more than one cup a day. The morning cup is ok, but if I have another one in the afternoon, I get itchy skin. I will order Dr. Thomas' coffee and try it out. It sounds very good. A promotional discount code would have been nice. Postdate: My Umble coffee came last night. I've just had my first cup this morning and it's excellent. Very smooth and mild. Congrats to Dr. Thomas for coming up with a great coffee product.

The gentleman from the great state of Mississippi confirmed what I suspected. Black coffee is one if not the healthiest drink. My dad literally gave me a small cup of black coffee in the morning so could drink it with him before he went to work. I'm close to sixty-nine now. Later in life, the only negative effect I get from a couple cups is, I have to urinate more frequently for a short period of time.

As a coffee drinker, and carnivore, I learned a lot. But anybody who's been cv for a while knows, there are small differences to how our bodies responds, and some people definitely responds differently to both caffeine and coffee. Maybe also to the bean itself or the roasting process. It was an interesting interview. Thank you.
Coffee might be my next rabbithole for accumulating more facts 😊

  • @dmt3412
    @dmt3412 ปีที่แล้ว +7

My problem with coffee is that it contains tannins that block the absorption of iron and even has a negative impact on iron stores. That means, that even if you don't drink it around mealtime, it may reduce the levels of iron in your body. This happened to me personally. I love the taste of coffee, but I have to drink it mindfully. This simply means that I have to make sure to consume iron-rich foods the day after drinking coffee, or take an iron supplement.
Everyone goes on about caffeine, but coffee, like many plant products contains antinutrients. That does not mean that we have to avoid it at all costs, but just that we need to be aware of the possible effects in order to reduce or counteract them.

Coffee has fewer oxalates than tea. I’ve always been a tea drinker. My new meat-based low carb lifestyle has made me very aware of my caffeine sensitivity. If I drink tea past 2pm difficulties with staying asleep ensue. Caffeine has a half life of 12 hours.

Thank you for the info! IMO, the benefits of coffee maybe bring destroyed by the plastic cups we are quickly brewing. The plastic is questionable to health after running hot acid through it. Grounds or fresh beans brewed beautifully is amazing!

This was a great topic to address! We have roasted coffee beans in the past and their’s nothing quite as sweet as the smell of fresh roasted coffee. After we burnt out three roasters, we decided if we were to continue the practice we needed to invest in the higher dollar roasters. Will definitely check out Umble Coffee company. ❤

I love coffee but unfortunately coffee doesn't seem to like me. I am pretty sure that coffee causes inflammation in my knees, in spite of what the 2 doctors claim. The content of this video was interesting and fun to hear, but it really lacked any detail on the science. Dr. Thomas's comments may have been based on science but this video was not a deep dive into it. I'm really grasping for data/info that might cause me to change my opinion about my coffee inflammation but it just isn't here. Dang. I have eliminated coffee in the past and seen radical improvement in my knees. However, when I reintroduced coffee, it went in the other direction. In fairness, I eliminated a lot of other things from my diet at the same time - actually everything but meat, fat and eggs - and when I reintroduced I also started eating nuts again, especially almonds which are high in oxalates that can cause inflammation. So I'm holding out hope that it's the nuts and not the coffee. I'm two weeks into eliminating both and plan to reintroduce coffee by itself as soon as my knees improve, which has already started after just 2 weeks. FWIW, I'm not coffee sensitive and I prefer my coffee black, bold and thick.

Hi Dr. Cywes... Love your channel! Quick question...Does adding butter to your coffee raise your triglycerides? Mine went from 78 to 150 in the last month. When I tested my lipids i drank butter coffee around 11 hours before . I'm thinking I just didn't wait long enough before testing?

Dear Dr Cywes, you are a God send. I sent you an email, but in case you don’t see it:
Is coffee ok if you have LPR, not just standard acid reflux? Would a keto diet fix the LPR, and you can still tolerate coffee along the way?
I personally don’t have it but I’m genuinely curious because of all the stuff I’ve read.
    Thank you!

I love LifeBoost (beyond organic) coffee! It’s expensive. I buy the beans and fresh grind them. Then I cold brew. Reheat for steaming coffee and pour in milk & cream for an iced latte. I put coffee syrups in sometimes. It’s delicious black. It makes awesome hot brewed coffee too. Low acid. The decaf is just as good! (caffeine bothers me often)
I don’t sell it or have a vested interest, nope. Nor do I know the ppl who do lol

There is nothing better than the Starbucks Italian roast for my espresso in the morning. Anything lighter roasted coffee is so sour it is ridiculous. My brother worked at Starbucks in 1976 through the 90's. There is so much more to it than just the quality of the bean. The temp, brew speed, and grind has a huge impact. Go to Italy, you can learn how a real espresso and coffee should taste.

Coffee: Medically speaking, does black coffee (or even coffee with heavy cream - no carbs) break a persons fast when they are doing intermittent fasting? Some sources say that even black coffee will break your fast (i disagree based on my research) but I wanted to see if you've seen medical studies that prove this one way or the other (and if coffee is ok, is heavy cream also ok?). I like to see more detailed studies on circulation, skin quality and health. My hands and feet crack on coffee. They dry out and this is with 2 cups a day. Or one shot of espresso. It takes about 5 days for cracks and dryness to clear up. Then in a day or two on it, it shows up again. Maybe not cracks but my hand, feet and eyes dry out. I'm sure there's an underlying thing someone would say. Other commenters replied back to me said a similar thing with circulation, neuropathy and diabetes. Too much coffee hurts their blood sugar reactions insulin response. I bet it's related to hair loss too, i'm a bit thin on top. But it's too soon to say for sure. I think the billion dollar industry would be devastated if a coffee roaster said it was not so good for you. And the studies as well. Just criticizing it as sugar and cholesterol was criticized with devastating effects. In one direction or the other. Pro/con mixed with collusion/lobbying
    Keep these coming

I’m pretty sure it does raise cortisol levels. In addition to raising epinephrine and norepinephrine hormones as well. I’m a type 1 diabetic and if I drink a black coffee my blood sugar rises. I’ve been told it’s because the three hormones I mentioned above communicates to my liver to create sugar and release it into the bloodstream.

Coffee often has moulds, mycotoxins, oxalates, phytates, etc. It’s hard to believe these two doctors are glazing over these many serious issues.

    • @olgakuchukov6981
      @olgakuchukov6981 ปีที่แล้ว

Actually coffee is low in oxalates. It has been measured and Sally K Norton wrote about it on her blog. Black and green tea have way more oxalates. Yes in the mycotoxins and I since it’s a seed, phytic acid. But maybe the roasting and brewing process reduces some of the phytates. These are all relevant concerns.
