GW2 Veteran Tries GW2 for the FIRST TIME!! (Zero to Hero: Prologue)

- Hey Guys,
A few of you wanted me to do a Zero-To-Hero run, and thats what i'll be doing. This video lays down the groundwork on what to expect for my zero-to-hero episodes, it wont be a long rant, they wont be hour long uploads of me WVWing, instead they will be consise moments and thoughts as i relive the game after a decade of playing. Drop comments down below and i will pick a few to answer in the following videos in this series.

S tier series already just for the title alone.
I'm surprised nobody else did it. Whenever I am searching for new videos I always run into this exact thumbnail/title.
I love that title. That kind of trend got so popular ever since the WoW exodus. I've seen channels full with only videos with those titles. It's hilarious
As a new player (Jan 20th), I’ve found that all zero to hero series hyper focus on account maximization/getting to “end game.”
Which, I’m sure is popular (particularly for getting current players to watch-optimization is always interesting). But, it’s not remotely reflective of my new player experience.
I bought the game on steam launch (so all xpacs are the time+living world) and snagged SOTO when I actually started.
Thus far I’ve been just playing the game as it came out-playing the story in order, not skipping ahead for features/unlocks/etc.
I have finished all Central Tyria Mastery tracks, Tyria Map completion (~92%, got all HP’s), LS1&2, HoT Story, HoT map completion, and am only 11 points (and a few million exp) from finishing all HoT mastery tracks.
- Did Knight of Thorns, my class’ HoT elite spec weapon collection, Vigil Backpack collection, and I’m pretty close to done with the Auric Vale backpack.
I recently swapped to doing WvW dailies/weeklies, and I started Fractal dailies just before the rush event (personal level 27).
You’re only new to a mmo once. GW2 is pretty special in that none of its content feels entirely abandoned the way an old xpac in FFXIV or WoW or even ESO tends to.
I think there is a niche for content targeting new players that isn’t entirely “how to optimize the fun away.” The game genuinely works on its own terms in its own order.
The raptor mount is already OP for HoT, but retains the designed experience of walking and gliding through this sentient evil jungle. As I approach my last day or two before moving on to LS3, I’m very glad that I didn’t rush ahead to snag extra mounts/features/etc.
Though I am looking forward to earning enough heroics to be able to use Pistol and Swords on my Reaper.
I got to about level 70 100%ing zones as I encountered them playing through the story (norn, so the Shiverpeaks). The Straits of Devastation & Orr were super unique as a gamer.
It’s this beautiful remix on how undeath can be done. “What if the ultimate lich lord raised an entire aquarium store’s worth of underwater kingdoms?” Produces a totally dope atmosphere. I did pop one of my 3 instant 80’s at 71 to snag the free exotic celestial set though.
I can’t wait to see how you react to playing the game through in a somewhat similar way with your perspective.

I was highlighting a disconnect between actual new player experience and the content currently made as a “model” for prospective new players.
That’s why I’m very excited this series seems on track to be more similar to my experience, and why I’m excited to see how he reacts to his taking on this approach given his much larger game experience & corresponding perspective.
Also, I was just giving algorithm bait in the form of long comments since I happened to get to the video early. Trying to support, ya know?
I don't mind long comments and was planning on responding to it in depth during the next video :)

Good stuff! I've done this several times already and I feel a certain peace and chillness, really enjoy myself going slowly through the content only for fun.
Idk about stacking multiple accounts but I am a fan of alt characters. Once the zero to hero acct is set up it'll be better lol

I got a longer video est 15-18 minutes similar to the 3 reasons why people quit video. I'm working on editing it while I compile other shorter videos. It's hard to manage editing, playing, and scripting with other real life obligations but more will be coming. I'd like to keep the channel game-focused to some extent with incorporating more meta-commentary periodically. More is on the way even if it may be a few uploads down the road.
Can't wait to follow this journey! I'd love if you could cover confident gold making for into gem conversion.
I will definitely get into that once we get to that point. There are a few items I feel are more valuable but eventually there will be some gold to gems action happening.

Too late now. But I am enjoying the asura animations, the story is annoying. These rats are snarky
i did this a while back when I made a NA account (my main is on EU) and its shocking how easy you can get around as a veteran and get geared up.
So far ill say this: I forgot autoloot isn't standard, and skyscale has spoiled me.

Please make a note to tell us how much the new player guide achievements help you level up faster.
Tell us whether it really made a difference, whether it was negligible, or anywhere in between.
A lot of people on Reddit have been saying that it makes a big difference, but it would be interesting to see how a veteran feels on a brand spanking new account

The title 😂 got me scratching my head. Anyways is there a possibility of making a video on WvW ? Specifically, what gear or build is best for each roles or what to do or not to do. I feel like there’s not a lot of video on this.
I'll be going over my thoughts on wvw and pointing out some great creators who specialize in wvw, I play it casually and am trying hard to get into the game mode on this account before wvw rush is over. Gotta get to level 31 before it's even available so I should be able to here pretty soon. It's kindof complicated so I will definitely be going over it, but I'm not really knowledgeable enough to put out builds, some people do-- and their builds are great, but the game mode is ment for experimentation.
I had a gw2 account and played exclusively spvp/wvw for 5 years straight. Never did any PvE other than getting BIS for WvW and some cosmetics. By the time the second expansion came out, I didn't even know how mount works since I never left the mist and having to finally get elite specializations on my WvW char overwhelmed me so I quit for a while. But with so many old characters, one of each class to be accurate, I'm littered with so much random stuff in my inventories and I just decided to get a new account and do everything properly, fresh again, focusing this time on the PvE end of things. Looking forward to the series.
Glad to hear it. I will be incorporating quite a few game modes through the playthrough but it will involve quite a bit of PVE. I can cover inventory management techniques though!
I'm looking forward to having to grind masteries to talk to NPCs. That always gets the homies juiced.
Yeah it's been a long time since the mastery grind. I think I'll have some decent takes on the best way to go about it, but we'll see! I'm still a few days out from 80.
And the grind will be transparent to you guys. Just not for me rip

I dont understand the elementalist hate 😅 I'm a fresh player with about 100ish hours in so far and I'm absolutely obliterating everything on my tempest with some cele pieces from the vault boxes only dying after walking into some obvious red circles from time to time...learning cata/weaver later is a different story i guess but so far its been a blast as a new player 😀
will you be using blishHUD or such for trails for map completion? I feel like veterans know about this but that those tools can be especially useful for casual players once they know of them

I got some strange question. What are your thoughts about priorities after reaching 80? I returned to gw2 and i am a kind of lost in a mass of unrelated things i could do. I am playing for about 3 month now and i am still a bit confused. So here are my long-terms i am trying to get, but failing to prioritize, and i am sure i am missing something (like mounts but they were on my actual focus so i am done with them):
1) fractal titles (the only thing i never miss when i play)
2) SOTO leggy armor grind (somehow convergencies are profitable, especially if you sell motivations)
3) Leggy trinkets
4) Story (unlocking masteries+Achievement point)
5) Mastery points
6) Leggy runes and sigils
7) Getting sets of gears for my active chars (long after looking for leggy stuff)
This is a great question and I will definitely revisit it once we get to level 80 on the Z2H account. I do have a lot to say about this. Should be able to respond by episode 2 (episode 1 should be out in a day or so). Thanks for your comment!

Yeah.. I have a lot of farming ahead, but I think people will be surprised at how little it actually takes.

Wait until I tell you I've only had 30-40 minutes available to play the last two days. You'll be surprised at the progress you can make when you actually know what you're doing.
