Nah 7.3s peaked from 1995-2015 then they became to outdated and unreliable now there’s better options.
I have a feeling the 50 people I know that bought 7.3’s that have anywhere between 300k-700k miles on them, some owners since new, and still using today would definitely say different but hey 🤷♂️

@@JoshuaOvermango buy a new 6.7 power stroke. About 40% are having catastrophic failure with cp4 fuel pumps. It’ll cost about 12 to 15k to get it fixed. And then the new 10 speed transmissions are not reliable. You’ll drop another 8 to 10k on the transmission if it goes bad. I have been a ford man all my life but there is no way I’d buy a newer power stroke with all their problems. I will proudly drive my 02 with a 7.3 as I pass by those dealerships with all those 100k dollar trucks that have so many problems. BTW those duramax trucks have the same problems with the CP4 pumps and the 10 speed transmissions. Look into it before you go buying a new one. You’ll find out why we’re holding on to these 7.3s
I thought this was a troll video when you mentioned 7.3’s are junk, but I knew it was when you mentioned the cummins are unreliable 😂.. You’re right, these old diesels aren’t for everyone, you need to take care of them just like any new truck. When you mentioned it doesn’t have “CarPlay” everything made sense😂
@@JoshuaOverman
Everyone I know with a Cummins has a fine motor but their transmissions go out like it's nothing. That's why I went for the 7.3 over any Dodge.
Mine has CarPlay with the 2008 swapped interior 😅
Cummins are very reliable. If they weren't I wouldn't own 5 and ready to buy another one. The 7.3 is also a great engine.

@@superstar64something I do miss when I’m in my 7.3 is adaptive cruise control , just because when pulling I don’t always agree with my transmission shift points . Does fine if it’s flat.

Mine is one owner before me, and the guy took care of the motor .

Oh my sweet summer child...@JoshuaOverman
Just bought my third 7.3 a week ago (2001 E350 van). With 220k miles on it, I paid $3,500. I rented a mini cargo van (Nissan NV200) to make the trip to go inspect the Ford E350 (7.3 liter). After deciding to make the purchase, I stayed at a motel for a couple of days, while I changed the air filter, fuel filter, engine oil, and oil filter. I used the Ford E350 (7.3 liter) I'd just bought to tow the rental vehicle back home (200 miles). It ran great, and because I know a thing or two about how to take care of these beasts, I expect it will continue to run great for the next 10 to 20 years. So YOU might have bought a "lemon", but there are thousands of people who know these engines a bit better than you seem to. Also, just to be clear, a 7.3 powerstroke is not just a pickup truck - it's an engine that has also been used in vans, school buses, box trucks, tow trucks, and even boats.

Why
I just don't think you get his sense of humor. The way talks about the e- brake lever being less reliable than the button and how he shows off at the end makes me think he's being disingenuous
I’ll never give up my clean 97 7.3 f250. Clean I’ll die with my f*cking truck. And it will still run.
It’ll be to crappy one day. the parts you repair these trucks with isn’t near as good as the factory parts even motor craft parts for 7.3s are just shitty now. So eventually you will be fixing crap non stop. It cost a lot to take a 7.3 to 1 million miles.
@@JoshuaOverman I use t444 parts only. No ford if I can help it. I have a international dealer 5 min away. Truck has almost no rust.
Get tuner and bigger turbo and bigger injectors make 450 to 550hp horse pretty easy
I’ve already pulled the turbo rebuilt it put upgraded hpop in it and tuner. It’s fast for a 7.3 but does run a little crappy right now has some small issues.
@@JoshuaOverman You should do fuel related mods and that'll help the power band too and make it run well. Replace the 20 year old ICP & IPR and it'll idle like new!

I would spend twice the money to rebuild a 7.3 before I buy a new truck and at the prices of a new truck that a lot to work with
New truck prices are a lot but long term you keep it 15+ years and it overall serves you well especially if the truck makes you money it’s not a bad investment. But for your average guy if you get a 5 year old truck for about 45k that’s a real great buy.
@@JoshuaOvermanor you can buy a 7.3 and it run for 50 years
I would say depends who you're getting it from and how much you're paying. Any truck can be bad depending on who had it and what they did. I do like that it doesn't have any emissions garbage the new trucks have don't have to worry about getting it deleted and then running into issues with that

@@JoshuaOverman 2:35 E-parking brakes are the plague of the auto industry. You called them way more reliable. E-brakes are way more prone to fault. All it takes is a squirrel or a little corrosion at a connecter to make them stop working. Most new big trucks don’t even use them.
I point it out because you’re digging for ways to trash the old trucks. They all have prose and cons.

Its leaking fuel and white smoking because you got cracked injector cups bub like the one i just bought for 4k and drove 70 miles home. Id rather put 10k more into this truck than buy a new one all day. If early 2000's fords are that bad 20 yrs later, what do you think that brand new one will be like in 20? Quality keeps declining it just looks shinier
How?

Oh,I found your problem it's that mat with the BOWTIE EMBLEM on it now everything makes sense😂
How?
I have a 2000 7.3 and it is not rusted and has tons of power
You are clearly lying about the power part of this comment.
I just bought a 2001 f250 with no rust and only 93k on the clock. Not a drop under it. Interior looks new. Built upgraded transmission. 4 new springs. And a crazy new stereo with navigation that i still haven't figured out all of its capabilities.
My only complaints were the ride and slack in the steering. A new set of Bilstein 5100 shocks took care of the ride and after tightening the track bar mount to the frame, replacing one tie rod end and adjusting the steering box, the slack is gone. I honestly can't believe how good this old truck drives now.
I've upgraded the main lights to led, added floor lights and puddle lights. Found out the stereo supports cameras and installed them. I now have back up cameras and dash cam with all the accident avoidance/ delayed departure alarms.
Now, with a little towing power increase and possibly efficiency gains in mind,I'm looking at best bang for the buck options for the engine.
Any suggestions from you long time 7.3 fans?

How?
I just totaled my 1999 7.3 with only 240k miles on it and I'm devastated. 75 mph crash on the highway. I didn't know I had it so good before. If it weren't for the steel body, it could have been much worse. The other car rolled several times and was crushed like a pop can. Compared to that, my 7.3 still looked in OK shape, but the frame is wrecked. Even after the crash, I was able to limp it for over 60 miles to the shop with a destroyed alignment, dusted brakes, square tires, bumper smashed underneath the front end and a trapezoidal frame. Didn't need a tow. It's always been solid as a rock reliable. If I'd known it was going to end this way, I would have driven her easier and taken better care of it. Even after driving real hard everywhere, storing it outside in -20 degree weather for years and only doing the bare minimum in maintenance, it never let me down. It even got stolen 2 years ago and it was crashed and put through the paces during that whole ordeal as well. I used and abused that truck the whole time I owned it and it always performed how I needed with no hesitation. I thought about replacing it with a newer 6.7 to fill the void, but I'm gravitating back toward a 2003 7.3 if I can find one...
