  • I had to take an expensive taxi ride across the Dominican Republic to avoid being locked down in the capital city of Santo Domingo all weekend. On the way I saw some very interesting scenes of regular life in this Caribbean island nation.

    You should do some research before you travel somewhere, I remember seeing news about a curfew in the DR, but I guess these are uncertain times and things can be unpredictable. I’ve spent sometime in the DR had a local girlfriend for awhile there, Iam not into those inclusive resorts, but ok for a few days. It’s a pity you couldn’t use the local buses as then you get a much better feel of the culture. I hired a car also and that’s fun and scary at the same time!

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Research and adventure are mutually exclusive. ;) But seriously, I do minimal research and then wing it from there. For the most part it works out just fine, sometimes you hit roadblocks that you then have to navigate. And those situations usually make the most interesting videos.

    The Caribbean island of the rare blue green Larimer stone. This precious stone only grows there and that's why it's so precious. A healing stone. Its high on my wish list and so is visiting this island. 🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴 I will make sure i get that all inclusive! I immensely enjoyed this one! The Dominican Republic looks like they have the most epic beaches in the Caribbean. And it's one of the cheapest places there too. You can buy a great house with pool for much cheaper than most places in the Caribbean. I've never been but have been studying the DR for years as a place to retire. So, why was it a good idea to pass on the guided tour offered by the locals in Santo Domingo? I could not find the answer you alluded to.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Yeah I forgot to explain that. The guided tour would have inevitably taken longer than walking around the city on my own. I would have gotten to the bus station later, and probably would have been too late to get the taxi ride to the resort because of the 5 pm curfew. I would have been stuck in Santo Domingo in my hotel room all weekend and might not have been able to get a refund for my reservation at the all-inclusive.

    Hey Gabe, love the videos. It’s interesting to see you visiting an all-inclusive. I enjoy your videos because many of them are of places I’d like to go, or have already been to (mostly Europe). Due to where I live and my career and family obligations, I often travel to an all-inclusive in the Caribbean once a year for a week simply out of convenience. It’s a great place to go with the family if you want to chill and unwind, but obviously quite different than travelling to say Europe for a few weeks of exploring. I personally prefer travelling to Europe than going to an all-inclusive, but both have their pros and cons. All that said, I’m quite curious to know how you enjoyed your first trip to an all-inclusive.

      Some people like it though, it really depends on the person. I have seen people moving to Nordic countries because they like it so much there. You can watch Jonna Jinton channel. She is also a remote worker but she will not leave Northern Sweden, doesnt matter what season it is. Speaking of Ireland I think Enya from Ireland also enjoys her country and has a house there where she lives, probably also in winters. Some of her music may also reflect that.

      Exactly. I would have been stuck in my room in Santo Domingo all weekend and probably wouldn't have gotten a refund for my reservation at the expensive resort.

    Definitely worth the price to avoid a lockdown! The rules here in Canada are becoming asinine too (why do the rules INCREASE while cases DECREASE?). Glad to see more of the Dominican Republic. I need to go on a vlogging trip here in the near future! 🇩🇴

    Awesome Video Gabriel. I visited the Dominican Republic in 2013. Stayed in Bayahibe/Playa Dominicus for 3 weeks. Also visited the City of La Romana for catching some "real dominican life" impressions beside the all inclusive stuff. Your video reminds me a lot to this fantastic scenery back then.
    Wish you all the best. And enjoy some Presidente Cervezzas :) Greets from Austria

      but he didnt see any coco palm trees there so the scenery was quite a bit different. They recorded their sightings in their notebooks and never mentioned those trees. They have only spread around that region in the last 500 years. In Hawaii a bit longer but still they are not native there. Coco true native home is India, Thailand, the Phillipines and other nearby places but not in the Americas, Africa and the Pacific Islands. Of course they simply cannot grow well in continental Europe so that doesnt count but if they could Im sure we would see them in Europe too.
