I am sorry to correct you Gabriel, but the iron figures I would say that represent a nativity scene. the three Kings of the East bringing gifts to the newborn Jesus. I think it can lead to confusion due to the gloomy of the figures. Greetings from Barcelona !!

I was here last March and stayed in the all inclusive next door to yours , was beautiful but i have never in my life experienced so many people trying to sell me things one after another every five minutes while lying on a private beach at the hotel. @11:30 they all used to live in your home country and all have sons that live there to build that relationship with you

That's a bit intimidating when you turn in almost every corner you'll be ambushed by local tour guides offering their service. That's what my experience in Havana and Puerto Vallarta, although they are nice but most of them are so pushy. You travel in order relax to not add more stress. I understand that they are just trying to make a living. Every time I travel to Latin America, I end buying stuff I don't really need because I felt bad to say no. Just saying!

Also, the thing to consider is that this tourist season is not so good so there is less tourist and the same tour guides or people trying to sell you stuff. So if there is more tourists, you could probably evade these people more successfully.

    • @jeniflyn

That happens in every tourist location, even in NYC. If you go to "la Ciudad Colonial" in Santo Domingo you'll get that. Keep in mind that the Colonial area is minimal compared to the city of Santo Domingo.

Gabriel Traveler: I visited Santo Domingo in 1988. I see some things haven't changed, specially being constantly approached by people trying to sell you something. You have to be firm and walk away because they can be persistent. It's a beautiful country, so enjoy it!

Great music choices to enhance the video. The Dominicans I’ve known in NY have a strong work ethic & are good people. President Grant really wanted to buy the DR in the 1800’s, even though he’d never been there, but Congress wasn’t having it. Unlike Greenland, there were people who wanted to sell it to the U.S. Interesting historical spots u found on your own after wading thru a fair amount of people who wanted to be your tour guide.

Brother Gabriel, indeed that's a nativity scene at 7:00. The Holy Family and the Three Kings of the East are all there. It's a bit bizarre, so much that it was unrecognizable to you. Seems like the artist couldn't really express the situation or got lost in personal preferences.

Big Papi, David Ortiz, was shot in the Santo Domingo Dial Bar and Lounge. It might be worthwhile to hire a fixer to get around safely and minimise tourist hustling. Does Booking.com give any warnings about possible movement restrictions when you research accommodations? It’s better to pay a little more for a place with a restaurant that’s staying open during restricted times.

I didn't stay long due to the curfew, which covers the whole country as much as I know. Starts at 7pm Mon-Thursday. As I'll explain in the next video it starts at 5pm Fridays which caught me off guard and then 12 noon on the weekends. Restaurants are totally closed up well before 7pm so you can't go out to eat. I didn't see much of the island so can't say what it was like but definitely not the best time to be there. I guess if you rent a place with a kitchen and plan to cook for yourself then at least you can get outside during the weekdays and try to make the most of it.

Hi Gabriel, My wife and I have been watching your videos since you were in Croatia earlier last year (beginning of pandemic). We were there last year, actually, Nov 2019. We really enjoy your videos. Had no clue you were going to DR. We have a lot of friends from there. Could you please share on entry requirements into DR? Covid test requirements, etc. would be helpful. Thanks

No requirements, just your passport. But as I mentioned there's a curfew throughout the country which limits when you can be outside. 7pm weekdays, restaurants closed all evening every day, stuck in your room all weekend.

Sometimes it really is best not to overly-engage the locals, unless you really need help! They can badger one to death! 😜

Whenever someone trying to sell a tour approached my family my dad would say "it's our last day" worked all the time
