  • There’s a massive new study looking at Omega-3 which we have to go through. There’s a lot of controversy around omega-3 and if it actually protects the heart or not. What this new study did is combine all of the data we’ve currently got, so it’s called a meta-analysis, and gives us an overall answer.

    Also it depends on who is conducting these tests. Pharmaceutical companies mage HUGE money off of Statins so they have incentive to diminish the results of a natural substance that you don't need a prescription for like Fish oil. I believe the pharmaceutical industry is very manipulative and their last concern is people's health over profit.

    Thanks for links to studies. I have been taking EPA/DHA on non fish (salmon) days for some time, I will continue to do so. Cardiologists seem to dislike EPA/DHA supplementation as it blunts the statin effect on LDLc and the disproven belief that EPA/DHA increases bleeding events.
    Meta analysis papers, in my experience, are excellent at disproving the clinical effects of most theories as they often bundle poorly constructed studies (short term and low doses) along with the good. I advise anyone looking for a signal in the noise: don’t just read the abstracts or summations, look the study construction and results.

    The issue with most omega 3 studies and subsequently meta analyses is the dosage is MUCH too low for an appropriate therapeutic effect. Unless a study shows a minimum dosage of EPA of 2 g (assuming it is EPA that shows benefit). This typically equates to roughly a couple of teaspoons or a tablespoon of liquid and often times 10+ capsules.

  • @MarmaladeINFP
    @MarmaladeINFP 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Dr. Paul Saladino makes an interesting argument. All of these studies on omega-3 supplementation are done largely on people eating diets high in oxidized and inflammatory omega-6s (industrial seed oils, seeds, nuts, etc). The greater amount of omega-3s does balance the high amount of omega-6s. But Saladino points out that there is zero evidence that omega-3 supplementation benefits those who don't have excess omega-6s.
    The fact of the matter is all PUFAs are oxidative, even as omega-3s are anti-inflammatory. PUFAs can even oxidize in the body after becoming incorporated into the cell membrane. Too many PUFAs in the body means more oxidative stress than the body can handle and the endogenous antioxidants get used up. The body doesn't need large amounts of PUFA for healthy functioning. All the PUFAs we need we can get from pasture-raised and wild-caught meat.

      @okradokrad 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @Dan-xn1vl
      @Dan-xn1vl 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @okrad.okrad No, they’re actually not. Keto-Carnivore-Paleo folk all recommend you stay away from Omega 6, even the most non-oxidized, fresh, raw, nuts and seeds. Oxidation makes it worse, but the question is about Omega 6 itself.

    2:30 for once again the other studies that did not show much benefit, were they corrupted? That simply is a part of the factor of how we have to look at these things now when it comes to anything that could interfere with pharmaceutical financial gain. Ref omega 3 and the brain. Prof Smith at Oxford with the Vitacog study showed that EPA/DHA WITH Vitamin B - mainly folate, B6 and most importantly B12, reduced brain shrinkage in people over 60 by about 40% . This was shown by brain scans which showed the memory centres of the brain were being preserved. Note** vitB does not work by itself, same with omega 3, only Together. Brain shrinkage when over 60 is about 1% a year and more in dementia patients. The EPA/DHA used was equiv 2.5g of omega 3. The video on youtube did not mention amounts of vit B.

    some of the trials seem to mention EPA specifically, if there were non epa (or dha) omega 3. Omega 3 is too broad a term. We need to specify epa and/or dha, to say omega 3 is likely to mislead and have people looking to boost omega 3 rather than epa and/or dha. Omega 3 as a term should not be used interchangeable with epa or dha.
