Nothing some collagen peptide and hyaluronic acid can't fix 😂
HA! assumed it was a cat
Hey Dr. Brad, is there a particular format hyaluronic acid is best consumed? What I mean is, should hyaluronic acid should be a liquid or gel like capsule and not a powdered pill?
Started watching years ago. I Check in from time to time. Shocked to see you now looking like a teenager.😃
Thank you for the insights. Would you recommend bovine or marine derived collagen given the concentration differences in collagen types 1-4?
Collagen peptides
Vitamin B3 (niacinamide)
Hyaluronic acid
Don’t take 50mg !!!!! Daily maximum dose is 35mg to much can give you major health problems and skin issues and most people have to much B3 as is because every food and snack is fortified with it !!!

It’s fun watching a video recommending all the supplements I’m already taking😊-collagen peptides, hyaluronic acid, and B vitamins. Also, 1 1/2 hours of daily exercise (walking in the woods and dancing, both with music). I’m 71, but feeling pretty good, much better than I did at 50!
I'm 64, and have seen your comments on other videos. I love your message! It's spot on and I do all of these things because -they work! I'm living proof. Some will say, good genes, but both of my parents and all of my grandparents aged horribly. I learned early on that I did NOT want to age like them and took the time to learn as that I could about aging and did the work to age better. The results speak for themselves. I look like my mom did when she was in her early 30's. ( She aged rapidly) I am told I look to be in my early 50's. When I was in my 50's, I was told I looked to be in my early 40's. I'll take that! Nutrition, skin care and lifestyle are key. Stay beautiful and best wishes!
I’m 50 and feel pretty crappy. Peri-menopause has definitely taken a toll on my bones, joints and overall well being. I’m excited to know later on in life I may feel better!
Dang, forgot to edit. It's not letting me now,,? Anyways, I meant to say: looked 40's when I'm 50's. SMDH. 🤪
@lisevail4264 May I please have the specific brands of the supplements you’re taking and where to buy them? I’d love to buy some for my mother and I. Thank you!🙏🏼♥️🙏🏼
@@CherryMaraschino77 Sure, but as of yesterday, I’m on the road to visit my father (101) and sister (75), so brought most of my supplements in baggies (sans brands). I’ll be home around May 8-10. I take a lot of supplements. The collagen peptides are Vital Proteins brand, the B vitamins are general CVS, plus extra B-12; the hyaluronic acid is Horbach, I think (purchased via Amazon)…the bottle is at home! The list includes magnesium glycinate, calcium citrate, DMG (N-Dimethyl Glycine), R-alpha Lipoic Acid & Benfotiamine (combo), L-Tryptophan, L-Lysine, and as of recently NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine). Feel free to ask me again after I return home if you want a full list. I try to be careful with amounts, to not overdo it. Lots of vegetables, nuts & seeds, eggs and other quality protein, and whole grains for diet. By the way, I’m convinced daily exercise is crucial and the music keeps me happy. I worked up to it slowly, starting with a half-hour walk, and always aware of how my body is feeling. Everyone’s body is different, and for those in a lot of pain, doing any exercise is challenging (I’ve been there), but worth trying. 🙋♀️🌷
Would love a video about hair loss and a separate video about the health benefits and risk of canabis
I started taking hyaluronic acid about 5 years ago, then added collagen peptides 2 years ago, and added B3 a year ago. I'm 58 and my friends and coworkers swear I'm aging backwards, lol
Can you please tell me what brands you use?Mahalo🤙🏼

've been using niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and collagen peptides for about a year now and have seen a big difference in my skin. It holds moisture better and the wrinkles are much less noticeable. I apply these as independent serums, wait for them to be absorbed and then use volufiline on top of them. Volufiline is supposed to help these serums to go more deeply into the skin where they have better affect. Would you do a video on volufiline? If it doesn't do what it says, I'd like to know. Also, which type of hyaluronic acid should we use? There are high and low molecular weight H.A. on the market. Thank you for these videos! I love the concise information.
Please discuss VERISOL type hydrolyzed collagen powder? Plus efficacy between marine and bovine?
I second that!
Activated liquid collagen life advantage
Grandy of all nrf1 nrf2 . Not your average supplements!
Verisol is probably fine. Likely any good quality hydrolyzed collagen will get you results. The source may matter, you may get slightly different peptides and aminos from different animal sources.
and porcine collagen too
@@cicieobst7929 Verisol is porcine.
Thank you for what you do. The information you provide is extremely useful!
Thanks for this video! Can you do one for dark circles/sunken in eyes?
If with hydrolyzed collagen the skin improvement is 7% to 12%, I understand that benefit is negligible to the naked eye, which is why so many people say they don't notice a difference. And if with hyaluronic acid the percentage of skin improvement is 12%, I think that if for budget reasons I couldn't buy both, it would be better to just buy the hyaluronic acid, right?? 🤔
Using hydrolyte with collagen after the workout has had a bizarre effect in that it has fixed my skin. Apart from the obvious benefit of recovering quicker

not sure about that tbh. i'm sure the guy is in better health than most people, but his eyes always look bloodshot to me. almost like not enough sleep or some minor allergy.
What about rutin? It apparently boosts collagen production... So maybe it could help increase the probability that the collagen peptides you ingest actually end up being turned into collagen. Some sorts of physical stimulation probably also increase the production of collagen. It's oftentimes not enough to have the chemical ingredients available; cells need to be given a reason (a stimulus) to use the ingredients, as with exercise and muscle growth.
Love this guy 🙏
In a podcast with one of the leading researchers on hyaluronic acid (Professor Vera Gorbunova), she stated that personally she would NOT consume hyaluronic acid produced by bacterial fermentation, due to concerns about the hyaluronic acid being contaminated with LPS (lipopolysaccharide). This is an endotoxin that will increase systemic inflammation.
Instead, she says that hyaluronic acid derived from rooster combs is safer (literally just dried & ground up rooster combs) is safer in this regard.
Based on my quick pubmed search, it seems that hyaluronic contamination with LPS/endotoxin is extremely common, and is to be expected
I'd love it if you could look into this Brad.
and greetings from central Auckland :)
Interesting. Vera is sharp. I've tried both types. Rooster comb (Injuv) seems to work.

Which supplements would you recommend for bone and cartilage health?
I have been taking DMAE regularly now for over three decades. People are shocked when I tell them my age. Not sure if it is the genetics or if it is the DMAE. Because of my personal case study, I would love to see more DMAE studies done.
DMAE what is that ?
So what brand do you purchase .? Thanks Note there is dmae in salmon sardines and anchovies 😎
@@Spartan21blue I have been using the NOW Brand for decades.
@@teresalehtonen8499 DMAE is found naturally in fish but can be taken via a pill in a much higher concentration and dose. The reason I take pills (in addition to eating fish) is because DMAE pills temporarily raise your IQ about 5 points or so for around 6 to 8 hours. There are different aspects to intelligence but the aspect which DMAE affects is that it causes your ability to concentration and focus to increase. I started taking it regularly in college (Mechanical Engineering and Physics). There was also a study published (but I do not have reference to it) in the 1970's showing that mice aged 25% slower with DMAE. But there was another study that showed birds died 20% sooner when taking DMAE. But I am a mammal and not a bird so I have been taking it now for over 30 years. I can easily pass for 15 to 20 years younger than I am. The way DMAE works is that it speeds up the firing of the neurons in the brain. If you take too much of it in one shot, you will get major brain fog for about 6 to 8 hours. I take typically one to two pills in the morning and possibly another pill or two at night, depending on how I am feeling and what I am reading in the evening.
@@teresalehtonen8499 One other thing, you will notice within about 20 minutes the effects of DMAE. If you have it with a coffee, it will raise your IQ about 10 points temporarily. It is great for cramming in college. If you do not notice an effect from it, try taking two pills. Huge dudes I know take even three pills but that would cause me to have brain fog (the opposite effect will happen because there will be a traffic jam in your head from too many neurons firing off at the same time).
I try to say it every video, I'll say it again: thanks doctor!!!!!

How about glucosamine, MSM and chondroitin?
There are limited research on their effects on skin, glucosamine is precursor and hyaluronic acid production booster in our bodies.
MSM, I HEARD that's vital for anti aging externally too.

Collagen kills my kidneys though. But it works wonders. I took it for one week only and my nails grew faster, skin improved, hair stopped falling out. BUT, I peed like 20x per day and had sore kidney for a week after stopping to take collagen. I also had extreme headaches, why lasted for a month.

In another video (th-cam.com/video/G75biex4H5A/w-d-xo.html), you said that you were taking the DoNotAge high molecular weight hyaluronic acid because low molecular weight hyaluronic acid promotes inflammation. What made you switch to the low molecular weight for MicroVitamin?
Thanks
Yes, I used to take the high molecular-weight version of HA. I wasn't aware at the time of making that older video, that we have research showing that the gut bacteria break down the high molecular-weight HA to low molecular-weight before absorption.
When I came across that research while I was designing MicroVitamin, I elected to use the low molecular-weight to help absorption
@@DrBradStanfield Thanks!
This doesn’t address the point made in an earlier video about low molecular weight promoting inflammation. Are you saying that regardless of whether it’s high or low molecular weight, it all breaks down to low molecular weight? In which case it may all promote inflammation.
There is research suggesting high molecular weight is anti-inflammatory. Could this be due to differences in the way the different types are processed in the body? I’m interested to hear Brad’s thoughts on this.
@@DrBradStanfieldand after breakdown no inflammation anymore? Also please distribute MicroVitamin in Europe so we don't have to pay the enormous customs costs 😊 You'll have more customers like me then 😊
@@DrBradStanfield, I just purchased a year’s worth of DoNotAge hyaluronic acid for me and my spouse based on your recommendation just a short time ago, and now you’re saying that we should be taking the low molecular weight version. Are hyaluronic acid creams any good?

Dr. Brad can collagen peptides cause elevated liver enzymes?
For astaxanthin the stated study says: ''In conclusion, our study suggests that long-term prophylactic astaxanthin supplementation may inhibit age-related skin deterioration and maintain skin conditions associated with environmentally induced damage via its anti-inflammatory effect.'' Just write the title in google to find the study. Also it depends on what kind of astaxanthin because many are not very bio-available... They also state a conflict of interest...
Do you think Astaxanthin is still worth it?
Peanuts, snow fungus (tremella mushroom) & collagen peptide powder in smoothies 😉

Thank you, Dr. Brad, for all your helpful advice! I've been taking your Micro Vitamin for one month. I think it's having a wonderful effect on my skin (I'm 71 but look younger). As you recommend, I also exercise; use sunscreen; and take: collagen peptides, Do Not Age omega 3, and NAC supplements. And I follow your advice about serums and creams that contain niacinamide, ceramides, and retinoids (I use retinaldehyde).
It would be great if you could do a video on at-home red light therapy for skin rejuvenation which has a fair amount of evidence-based research. The best masks are manufactured by Omnilux and sold under other brand names such as Light Salon and Higher Dose. Great video. Have you looked into research for Rapamycin creams?
Collagen causes the side effects do rashes or headaches. No one talks about that. Also takes a long time to break down in the body. I’ve tried it and it didn’t improve anything. Neither did B3. Diet plays a part as well as skin care routine I’d imagine. And of course exercise and water.
Hi Brad. You mentioned in an earlier video that you take 200mg of high molecular weight HA. In this video you state that you now take 200mg of low molecular weight HA. Why the change? What are your thoughts on vegan "collagen" which mimics the amino acid composition?
You can try that. If there's a vegan source of hydroxyproline. Glycine especially is a cool supp. But you won't be getting the short peptides.
I seem to recall a study or perhaps two that recently found that B3, Niacin and NMN supplementation may be harmful to heart health. In fact I was taking them up until a couple months ago when my dermatologist said to take them then reversed course and said, "don't take what I told you to take anymore," which I responded with, "I don't, I saw the study and stopped," and she said, "good!"
Pure rubbish. Look into the research properly. B3, NMN are fantastic for the heart.. however, you need to take TMG, b6, B12 and general b multivitamin to offset B3/NMN increase in homocysteine which is a risk for the heart
I have seen the Cleveland Clinic Cardiology Department's research and stopped my nicotinamide supplementation (500 mg) via Mimio Health. I would like to know Dr. Stanfield's take on this.

He has a link with the vitamin that includes vitamin Cs. Just checked out out and amazed he actually published the certificate of analysis to confirm purity of the product. I just became a huge fan!
How impactful is the difference between Collagen and Collagen Peptides specifically?
Because looking at prices, the cost of a hydrolyzed collagen powder is almost the same as the cost of a hydrolyzed collagen peptide powder; but there's fewer options atm.
Should we take the effort to always choose the peptide form of collagen?
If it's a collagen powder, it's peptides. Meaning it was treated with enzymes. The other real options are gelatin or an undenatured product like UCII
@@presence5426 Thanks. Yeah, after googling... it seems like it's just two different names for the same thing (hydrolyzed / peptides). Kinda weird that some brands use one naming and some - the other.
@@ElijsDima It gets even more complicated. No matter what collagen product is ingested, it all gets broken up by gut enzymes. So we hydrolyze the collagen regardless. Question: is pre-hydrolyzed collagen (peptides) the best way to go? Many people think so. But unhydrolyzed or even "raw" collagen could have advantages.
@@presence5426Yes the gut will absorb the di- & tri-peptides & the body will be prompted to respond
2022 review entitled “Myths and media in oral collagen supplementation for the skin, nails, and hair” in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology concluded that “Dermatologists should be aware of the unsubstantiated proclamations of collagen made by companies [which] surpass any evidence currently supported by the literature.” And, given the insufficient evidence, “collagen cannot be routinely recommended at this time” Moreover, the evidence is considered to be “particularly unconvincing” when compared to methods more definitely shown to have a positive effect on skin collagen, such as sunscreen use, smoking cessation, and a healthy plant based diet.
HA is the single best oral supplement for skin I've ever found. Takes about a week, and the difference in my face is very noticeable. My girlfriend takes it, same thing- baby's butt skin. Both Hyabest & Injuv have worked. I'm a fan of collagen, but HA is awesome.

Hello Doc, did you switch out High Molecular HA now to Low Molecular HA? So u no longer take DoNotAge’s high molecular weight HA? Appreciate your response thank you
The primary "supplement" is an image filter. If only we never had to actually see each other, we could appear to look however we want. This trend is creating weird new kinds of body dysmorphia. It's good to live in a healthy way. But, at a certain point, it's important to love who we are as we are as well.
Collagen peptides are derived from animal sources. What is the risk of exposure to animal based pathogens , prions and inflammatory agents, agriculture chemicals,🤔 etc??
Labdoor can answer some of this. There are risks. Prions, tho, have not been detected ever in collagen supps.
Will you be distributing MicroVitamin in Europe as well please? The customs costs are extreme.
what amount of collagen should I take?
Should we takie collagen peptides with some meat or eggs to enhance absorption , or a veggie dinner +collagen peptides is enough to do the job ? Thank you :)
I'm taking NAG now which is a precursor to HA...will that work?....Do you still like astaxinthin even though it doesn't help your skin much??
What about taking astaxanthin and collagen together? Will the former be worth taking in that case?
I'd say collagen and mixed carotenoids, including astaxanthin.
Astaxanthin don't work for skin at all as the study in video said.

@DrBradStanfield some research suggests low molecular weight Hyaluronic acid has pro-inflammatory effects, while high molecular weight Hyaluronic acid has anti-inflammatory effects. Have you looked at this research? I’m interested in your thoughts.
I've seen this too. High-molecular weight replicates closer to how our bodies produce HA. So i'm sticking with HMW HA.
Is there a difference between bovine and marine collagen? Bovine is so much cheaper.
So is Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) a collagen peptide? As it’s used for skin, hair and nail health.
L.Reuteri yogurt has been shown to reduce wrinkles. And paired with hyaluronic acid + axataxathin it does an even better job.
Astaxanthin is rarely mentioned. I've read that it acts as an internal sunscreen. I've been talking it for years and never wear topical sun protection. Most of my family has had skin cancer but so far I've escaped that fate.
7:57 So, how can we know if a hyaluronic acid supplement is in the ‘low molecular weight form’? Is there a way that we can check this?
i read the low molecular weight had some kind of association with cancer.
I suspect the skin flushing from B3 benefits skin health, perhaps from increased blood flow.
Methylene blue also improves skin.
Collagen supplementation... I had heard this "argument" several years ago as well. The thing is, yes, our bodies *DO* indeed convert most (if not all, I've heard arguments both ways) proteins down to base amino acids via protease enzyme breakdown after initial consumption.
HOWEVER... even if this *WERE* true... it's very much the same as the concept of trying to build a Lego kit with a specifically configured set filled with all the right parts, versus trying to build your structure from random Legos.
The body must be more EFFICIENT when it receives collagen in its exact collagen format rather than trying to bust up a bunch of random high-leucine content (like beef or chicken) or trying to first grab the amino acids in the brown rice you had for lunch and later in the black beans you ate for dinner.
If this is true that collagen can be absorbed and utilized *WITHOUT* needing protease to first break it all down and then various biochemical processes build it all back into collagen again, then it truly is a no brainer.
Obviously these multiple studies show that the body is clearly happier and MORE EFFICIENT with using collagen from collagen than it is when using collagen from randomly deposited proteins that may have more valine and far less glycine or more leucine but far less proline.
Excellent video here - confirms even more so what I've learned from personal use of the Vital Proteins version of collagen peptides powder over the last 4-5 years (about 150-175g per week on average, religiously) - no more whey isolate powder for me, I get enough high BCAA protein from whole foods and complete proteins in my daily diet!
Cutometer, if the skin is cute, the meter goes up.
replace "single-cell" research with "in vitro" research. Single-cell refers to a technology wherein cells are dissociated and placed inside a single bubble for indexing and sequencing, which can be used for both in vivo or in vitro study. Research based primarily on cell lines are called in vitro because it is not tested as a part in a living organism.

Regarding cremes I stick to the wise saying: " Don't put anything on your skin what you are not dare to put into your mouth!"

@@user-wj9jm1ox8i Means, when you are not willing to eat your creme, you suspect it´s toxic to you. So then also don´t put it on your skin, because the substances in the creme get through the skin also into your body!
What does "not greatly altered" mean in statistics? From: "Analysis using an in vivo imaging system revealed that tumor proliferation and metastasis were not greatly altered by HA administration".
Does collagen protein have the same effect?
This was rly good
I have been taking collagen peptides supplements for years & it hasn’t helped my wrinkles at all
