I love autumn and winter, but it can definitely be a struggle sometimes. I find my seasonal depression usually hits worse in summer because I don't enjoy the heat, but I have also started to realise that I get so frustrated when the weather disrupts my routine. So if I can't get out and walk my dog at the same time I always do, whether because it's raining or too hot, it makes me so so stressed. I feel like I need to learn how to just let the weather guide me sometimes and not get so in my head about routine. But I definitely agree that going for a walk everyday can make a big difference! It doesn't fix everything, but it definitely helps. Thank you for being so open about hormones! That's definitely a big struggle that I don't think we talk about enough even though it can have a massive impact on our lives. It's something I'm still learning about for myself, I think the education around things like that is severely lacking, but the internet is a great place for that. Oof, as soon as you started talking about diet, I definitely feel that! I really struggle with that for a lot of reasons, but diet makes a big difference to my overall mood. Gilmore Girls is my go-to autumnal/winter show! I have been rewatching recently and it makes me feel so cosy. I have started putting my phone in 'exile' because my doom scrolling got out of control! I just had to start putting it in a different room or just far away from me to stop myself from just picking it up and scrolling out of habit. It helps me read more, too, and has definitely helped my eye strain 😂 but I also love how modern technology helps us connect to people, like you say, feeling that connection and community helps you realise the world does have some nice, like-minded people in it. Oh Sadie, when you were talking about getting stuck in your head, I so relate to that! It's so hard to get out of that cycle. Sorry for the super long comment, I loved this video ❤
That is so true. It’s not always the colder seasons that can be hard. I’m sorry to hear you can struggle in summer! I sometimes find summer stops my walks more than this time of year because like you say the heat! Especially with dogs to take out. And being in the UK it’s understandable that you get stressed with the weather disrupting your routine. I’ve definitely started to try and switch my mindset about getting out in the rain and it’s helped! Thank you so much Eilise. You are so right/The education is really lacking on hormones and I feel like the more I’ve opened up about it, the more I realise there’s more of us out there that struggle with it and want to learn and do what we can to balance them. I really appreciate you sharing this too 🫶🏼 and that you can get stuck in your head too, I do wonder if sometimes it’s all linked! A friend and I always say to eachother, ‘I don’t like that this happens to you but I feel comforted we’re in it together and someone understands’ and I feel this right now that you’ve shared your experience. Thank you That is SUCH a good idea what you’re doing with your phone. Me and Ed were literally talking about this over the weekend. If it’s there it’s so easy to just pick it up and get distracted so we are definitely going to follow your example and give this a go! Oh and I love having Gilmore girls on in the background as soon as autumn arrives! ☕️🤎
Thank you ever so much for sharing these tips, I am definitely going to make sure to implement these things into my daily routine as well because even the smallest changes in behaviour and mindset can make such a huge difference. My mom actually just got me light therapy glasses, and they have been surprisingly helpful in boosting my mood and helping with more inner peace. But nothing actually beats the dog walks and daily yoga practices for me, those are critical to my mental health, even more so in winter! Also really like the focus on nourishing foods, because that is something I tend to struggle with myself as someone who has been battling an eating disorder for the past 7 years. That's also part of why the holiday season can feel extra overwhelming for me with the festive foods and family dinners etc. Anyway, if you are open to sharing, I would love to see a video about some of your favourite meals to cook someday! In any case, I hope you have a wonderful holiday season, and I am sending you and the family all the love 🥰🥰
Yes! The smallest changes when consistent can make such a difference. Thank you for sharing your experience with light therapy glasses, I’m so glad they are helping and it’s so good you have some practices like yoga and walking that you know help you. I’m sorry that you’ve had this battle Esmay. I can imagine that must be really tough for you when there is such a focus on food around this time of year. Sending you lots of love ❤️ I would definitely be up for sharing some meals and recipes on here too if you would like me to 😊
