Has the timing chain and tensioners worn out on this car now? I can hear the rattling on start up. Mine did not take long to fail after the rattling at start up of the tensioners begun. A stretched timing chain is also the cause of the poor idling as it throws the VVT out.
I'm a backyard Mach done this a few times great relief when she tick's over just have to take your time make sure number 1 piston TDC and Cam marks positioned in spec first two lobes facing out as he pointed out. You couldn't get any more Aussie as Simon or you would be shit mechanic. LoL I pay him any day to work on my car!!!!

Well if you like X-Trail just buy it .try.test run gear box change smooth.eninge dry no oil leak.good suspension .if you like buy it..we never know when it break down..
Simon i done the head gasket same as you did, started up good, then runs rough and oil got water in it and, water coming out of the exhaust pipe, what do you think it is.
Hi Simon just had water in the engine block and water in the exhaust system, ran it for a few minutes and then it runs good, but miss a bit, found it was the injection small o rings were pushed into the manifold, so I got a little bit of wire made a small hook one end pulled out the o rings, put them on to the injectors, put them back in the manifold and it runs great now, had to change the oil again now its better than it ever was, all this is because I followed your instructions on how to set up the head and timing, so thanks for the videos Simon mate your a legend.
I had to let the x trail 2007 run for a about two minutes before I left redrained the oil, put new oil in and it was good new radiator new hoses new thermostats new head gasket all good now doesn't overheat at all. 👍

Hello Simon!! I noticed engine check light while driving but then I stopped try cleaning maf sensor and tried engine manual ecu reset and car cannot run for over 2 seconds it goes off ,I tried diagnosis and was told crank position sensor. How can you help me?
Hello Simon please help me ,my own qr20 engine got damaged on metal gasket and I replaced it with a paper one but its reduced the efficiency and heats up to boiling when I cruise for some appromatly 90miles ,should I put back the metal gasket or just what is your take in such cases?
@@user-fl6iz5oe2f when you put water in the radiator did you open the cap let all the air out ? And full up more water make sure water go down to the water pump so that most cause boiling

why dont you get secondhand engine with low km..mayde cheaper them you let them replace new piston kits...the noise maybe from the lifter cups they did not marks each one before removes.wach one has different thickness.

this car really have no roms for your hand too remove the timing covers..you may have to pull engine out and do from out side
The gap between the bores is tiny!
My Mother has owned 2 xtrails and gone through 2 motors 3 headgaskets, seems to be a problem with the QR25 engine.
You show that this is straight-forward - just have to refit properly & test + 3 tools max you used.

Funny that car was at 299000klm 2 years ago but according to the NSW rego check website the July 2023 Odometer reading is at 229684 Klms 🤣

Aslo your car maybe the key smart control systems may cut you out
Have replaced pump with bosch type and still runs for seconds and goes off.

Did you recondition the header
And make sure replace new thermostat
If possible replace water pump too
OK noted thanks , but on issues like me having put paper gasket instead of the original metal gasket has nothing to do with the boiling?
