Love the camp sight! Services = money/Free = CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF! Love that you guys pointed this out. There are so many boondocking places that are getting trashed now and some that are now closed because of it. I was taught as a child to respect nature and to even clean up after myself in a full service camping area. I love both the beach and the mountains, they each have their own beauty, BUT I am the GREATE LAKES tribe.
If I was boondocking a lot I would invest in lithium batteries. Everything in my Lance trailer is 12 volt except the AC and microwave. I think I would do a suitcase type solar panel. I have 2 deep cycle batteries now which are adequate for short stays without shore power. I would probably invest in a small 2200 watt generator since Lance has dedicated storage for it. Boondocking on the beach looks like a lot of fun! Good video!
The reason I was taught on "Why you don't plugin your electrical prior to starting the generator" is there can be a huge Voltage/Amperage spike that could damage you electronics.
The tip about saving shower water is to save the water that you run until your shower gets hot, then use that water (which would have otherwise been wasted) to flush the toilet with.
A lot of states use gray or non potable water to irrigate landscaping along the freeway. The city where I live uses gray water to irrigate schools and municipal sites. In states where it’s legal I’m okay with dumping gray water as long as it’s not next to a water way
I just wanted to let you know that I just camped at Magnolia Beach and loved it! I live in Oklahoma, my son lives in Houston. Because of Covid, I haven’t seen him sine Nov 2019 😢 So, I drove down, picked him up and we stayed right on the beach! It was GREAT! I didn’t realize you could drive and camp on Texas beaches! We had a grand time, and want to thank you for sharing!! I cherished every moment with him! 💙
I’ve also learned to wash dishes and sink with vinegar I keep in a spray bottle. (Also works to deter ants.) And put a laundry basket in the shower to collect the water. The foldable one is perfect and no holes.
I live off grid so saving water is a way of life now. I shower and do dishes how you describe. But I also do the two buckets, one bleach water one soapy water and I rinse the dishes over the soapy water bucket.
I grew up in Corpus Christi and on Padre Island. That humid salty air has a tendency to get inside a nice rig and make everything sticky. Not to mention the rust that will occur over time to anything metal that was exposed to salty air.
One of the things we do it fill gallon containers with water while waiting for the dishwashing or hot water from the water heater to get hot. We also don’t use a lot of water in flushing. We use gray water or refill water bottles to flush with.
You can leave everything plugged in just turn off the main breaker on the generator before starting. Once running turn back on the main breaker. If concerned about voltage surges put surge protectors on sensitive electronics.
Those 5500 genaraters really like the gas.. I have one , I don't like it and don't use.. your 60 gallons of fuel will last around 60 hrs.. my Yamaha 2000 will get 12 hrs out of 1 gallon..
I am a beach bum at heart, never been to a Texas beach and lived in East Texas 40 years, The emerald coast owns my ❤️ I have never enjoyed wine, i get headaches after one small glass, so I will let you have my allotment of wine to enjoy🥰👍🏻 Love my Berkey too
I just installed a dishwasher in my OR 376FBH. Took out 3 of the drawers in my island to accomodate it. The machine will wash 6 place settings, plates up to 10" (normal dinner plates), and uses less than 2 gallons of water, which is a fraction of what we used before. I haven't checked the energy use yet, but another buyer said less than a 500 watts total on the non-dryer mode.
Just a bucket in the shower, to collect water while you shower. It is also good to catch all that water, that usually goes down the drain while you are getting the right water temperature. Haven't done much boon docking but, hoping to, and on the beach would be awesome. Beach tribe all the way! Have fun
Wow, yes that IS the perfect place. Beach, your ramp patio down, firepit, wine, sunset, waves....gimme gimme gimme! LOL Sorry Tom, total Beach Tribe guy here! (But love the mountains for hiking too!)
Another great video. I watched both on Magnolia Beach. I think I’ll be heading that way in March. Looks absolutely amazing... As for toilet water I have a small tub in my shower. It’s not big but will hold well over 15 gallons. It’s just me so I keep a plug in when I shower. I get a nice warm foot soak 😂 and save water, using a specific pitcher to put in the toilet as needed. Saves so much water and I’m sending soapy water into the black tank.
It's true that a lot of people get boondocking confused with dry camping. Some people think it's the same thing when it really is not. I lived in my travel trailer for about 4 years and spent one summer working at a historic site with a lake and a campground. I stayed in the campground and drove back and forth to the job site on the other side of the lake every day and that would charge the batteries on the truck and then when I plug the truck into the trailer at night it would charge the trailer batteries and I had 12 volt power to run everything on the trailer all night like my TV and water pump and the lights and then I also had a 12 volt fan to blow on me All night Long in hot weather. It is really amazing how many 12 volt utensils and devices they make now for cars and RVs.
Geez. Just read all 168 other comments and I am the only one to mention Desert. I know, subtle beauty for the connoisseurs! Lots of Desert to explore with the most tantalizing Geology.
Well for me I grew up in Idaho, lots of desert all around us, and plenty of real mountain ranges and it was maybe fun as a kid. Now after 20yrs in the Army all around the world, I like the beach. 2nd to that would be the mountains, real mountains. Nothing against the desert. I visited Texas, Arizona and Nevada a few years ago. It was ok but give me a Beach and no mask...and an adult beverage 🏝
The water you catch in the shower is the (clean) cold water you run before you get hot water in the shower. Takes a minute to get hot water at the shower head, so you may as well collect it instead of sending the clean, cold water into the holding tank 🙂
Thank you for sharing! We live very close to the dancing honeybee and we’re actually there last weekend! And we also are planning on getting a RV and heading to North Padre! Thanks again we are now subscribers!
On our ships we have a handheld shower head with a valve that you have to hold open for water. Quick wet down squirt, soap and rinse. Probably get a shower for less tgsn a couple gallons.
Great location! And video! If I feel I need to save shower water I have a tub so I just plug the tub. I use that and the dish water to flush the toilet. Safe travels! Hi Logan!
I have seen presentations at large rallies on reusing grey water to flush toilets. It involved additional plumbing, pumps and filters, so modifications to the RV. Basically, use a pump to draw water out of the grey tank through filters and then route it to the toilet. No question, it can really extend your time on site for a given amount of fresh water and black/grey water tank capacity. The other thing that seems to be popular at the moment are the toilets that separate urine from stool and compost the stool rather than having it go in the tank. Composted stool can then be disposed of as regular trash.
We have bath towels that I got when I had to stay in the Veterans hospital, (large like baby wipes if you will) and I have zero problems using those instead of a shower...and I can throw them in the trash.
Use a 2 gallon bucket or similar container. Sit it in the shower while showering where it will some of the water and also water used waiting on warm/hot water. If between a couple showers you collect a bucket full its that much less you will use flushing the toilet. Also palce a contaner in the bathroom sink to collect hand washing water. Every little bit helps.
I stand in a Walmart large clear rectangular container (one that originally had a storage lid for it, approx 3”-4” tall, approx 24” x 36” width/length). This allows my feet to get a nice soaking. Then I merely scoop the water into several old plastic juice bottles, if needed add a drop of cheap laundry detergent to the water while storing it for flushing toilet. I simply tuck these items in my shower when not in use, while turning the rectangular container on it’s side. It’s really not that difficult and definitely saves on water usage. You can also pour the rinse water from dishes into jugs for same purpose. After all, boondocking is similar to roughing it like tent camping. 💦
Great video! If you ever want to try fishing right on site while parked on nice level concrete with full hook ups, try Marshall's Landing RV Resort in Aransas Pass, TX! Lots of water & Redfish right outside your door! Don't forget your kayak!
When regulating the shower water, capture that in a clean bucket. Either pour it back into the system or for dishes heated on the stove. What we do, thanks Larry Miller San Diego Ca. Retired
I've seen the shower water thing done they use a 5 gallon jerry can rig with the sewer cap fitting for the garden hose attachment then when the tank is full they just dump it into the toilet to flush.
Great Video, The first stop after camping by the Sea is a car wash, paying close attention to the underside of both your rig and your toad or truck. If not you WILL rust and fast. Any tips on keeping the sand out of your rig??
It was your boon-docking challenge, when I first found your TH-cam Channel... keep up the great videos, I really enjoy them! Although we are not full timers, we have been camping or RV’ing for over 46 years + Camping is how my family as a child took vacations! Have a Happy & Blessed New Year and Safe Travels!!! John & Marcia Kelly
Rocket Scientist 🚀 here! NEVER start any power source with a list attached. Ohm’s Law gives is the reason. Power = volts times amperes. An example. A microwave is typically 1100 watts. This means it draws 10 amps from a 110 volt source. When the voltage is only 55 volts the amperage will TRY to reach 20 amps. The wiring is sized for 15 amps as is the circuit breaker! Let the generator idle for few minutes then add one power draw at a time! Glad you mentioned checking for neap tide versus ebb tide. Don't want an RV boat!
Great video as-always...you really need to get a solar system installed. You can’t BELIEVE the extra power available to you. Even camping in canyons during the spring or fall (like Yosemite valley), we get limited sunshine, but boy does having a couple of solar panels really extend the use of our batteries! You’d REALLY get to boon dock for longer periods of time! Check it out!
As a child I was abused and went camping all summer with my parents. They had a truck camper for them...us kids had a tent... Try that now days... Kids would turn you in lol. I was in the military for 20 years, plenty of "camping " lol. Now I have a 5th wheel...😊🏝🏖
I tent camped with my parents from 6 months till i was 18, for two weeks every summer. We always hiked and fished so I love the Mountains and being in nature.
I have lots of happy memories from Magnolia Beach. Used to spend summers there when I was a child. Lots of good stories about it too. We rented a beach cabin. They are all gone now, and i bet the old hotel at Indianola is gone too. Lots of good beer buddies back in the day. Used to hang out at the old hotel and everyone just dragged up a chair of some kind on the outside and enjoyed a cold one. State senator Hank Gonzalez used to join us and the fish stories flew along with a lot of political bunk. Very interesting bunch. They were all fun loving and fun to listen to. Of course, I was a bit older when that occurred.
To collect shower water. I recently saw a video of a new class b that collected the shower water and filtered and purified it and returned it to the shower to reuse. When done showering it was then diverted to the toilet for a final use before going into the black tank
Thanks.. We are looking forward to boondocking. Since we went full time in September, we have either been in an rv park or a friend's driveway. Currently in Tom's hometown, had dinner at Dewey Destins last night. I've done tons of research on batteries/solar in preparation to boondock comfortably. We love your insights, honesty, and willingness to share. Your 30 day challenge videos helped a lot too. We wish you well. Happy new year.
I would love to camp there! We enjoy boondocking and as a family of 4 we can last 7-10days in our TT before we need to visit services. We did build a small 300w solar generator so we do have power anywhere. When it comes to conserving shower water we would stand in a buss tub while showering and then use that water in the toilet. We also carry a couple 6gal Jerrycans full of water so if we need them we can use them and easily fill them up in town if needed.
As previous stated - catch the water while waiting for shower to heat up to reuse (flush toilets etc - as this is still clean water). Let dirty shower water go to grey tank. RV Geeks have good video /explanation on this. Good luck.
This is a great video guys, beutifully shot, possative and informative, no negativity, i wish i was there kind of feel. a really great template for your channel. loved it.
I collect water from dishes in my sink with a big plastic bowl and dump it down the toilet. Only flush toilet when do #2. Use Sawaday's 1 drop to keep it from smelling., no odor. Don
I love beach and mountains lol. We just wrapped up a trip to Disney and then stayed over at Clearwater Beach Florida absolutely beautiful places. Honeymoon Beach State Park was beautiful.
I'm amazed at how seldom I see people using food saver vacuum devices to bring prepared meals along. Reheating requires a lot less water, propane or electricity. We took a five week trip to albuquerque and back east and still had food in the fridge.
Hello! Great videos. I learned a lot. I'll be heading to magnolia beach this winter in my van. I did Port Bolivar last year and you're right it was scary a few times. But moved down the rettilon rd to the flats. much better than crystal beach. BUT the wind!!! Was crazy!! So going to magnolia this year. I can't wait. Oh my question is did you have an open fire? I have a propane fire pit but wood is so much better.
You mentioned everything I have experienced while boondocking on my very first trip. Lessons learned that time around, learned a lot during that 3 month trip
Living on the west coast of Canada, we're more apt to want mountains, and as 'beaches' go, now that we're retired, the idea of laying a beach to get a tan is very low on our options list, but we do LOVE the view and the sunrise/sunsets! Never made it to Texas, as we end up getting stopped in Arizona, as there is just SO MUCH lovely scenery and great resorts....but one day we will. I really do need to start making a long list of these places for future adventure/journey's, as there are just so many wonderful places to see these days. We all have to hope, that a few, don't ruin it for the masses though, such as we're seeing with many Walmarts shutting down the ability to stay overnight in their huge empty parking lots! The 'pack it out' is essential, for all future RVers indeed!
Beach side *Bloopers & Vino .....what a way to go (Smooth sand or bumpy shells sand)?! Fill us in on Magnolia Waterside 🏖️🌅🍷. Enjoy your Travel ways, kudos to Logan on camera 🎥
Hey that looks like an amazing spot!! Oooh boy! I know where I want to go this month!! Btw... plug the tub to collect the shower water! That's actually a great idea! But I feel like the tub slime would add up fast? Eehh idk we use jugs of water lol I'm afraid to use our holding tank for some reason!
Love the video! Great suggestions. We have a Berkey and love it, but don't have a good solution for storing it on moving days. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks Donna! On moving days we just make sure the Berkey is mostly empty and put it on the kitchen floor. It seems to ride fine on its own. We have the travel version like this one amzn.to/2X1Te0N
There’s a better beach down the road a bit. Called surf side beach. Way bigger. More spots. Just left both of those places. Now at brushie prairie park. Maybe head there next. It’s free. On a lake. And nobody is ever here!!! It’s clean. Good size park. Seen 2 cars here in 2 days. Amazing place. Check it out! Oh also on our way here we hit Sam Houston national park. Was a great secluded spot there. Rained for two days while we were there. Could have sworn I heard that Sasquatch 😂
Check it out on Campendium. Wolf creek is closed nearby just a heads up if you come this way. Hard to find good boondocking in Texas compared to other states.
Great video and information. I have just returned from my shake-down trip where I boondocked on Fish and Wildlife land near Branson, MO. I had to cut it short because of mechanical issues but had a wonderful time while I was there.
I would recommend hosing down the underside of your vehicles and RV soon after you leave. The air is salty, the sand is salty, the gulf spray is salty. Not good for any bare steel. That's a nice spot!

I did RV on the beach. The tide got so close. It is so much fun.
So my question... how not to get stuck in sand?

Haven't done much boon docking but, hoping to, and on the beach would be awesome. Beach tribe all the way! Have fun
Wow, yes that IS the perfect place. Beach, your ramp patio down, firepit, wine, sunset, waves....gimme gimme gimme! LOL Sorry Tom, total Beach Tribe guy here! (But love the mountains for hiking too!)
re shower water - maybe collecting the water that comes out while waiting for it to get to be a good temperature before you get in?
Yes, we've done that, as it can be quite a bit...in our rig at least. We then use it for washing dishes!
It is amazing that you can get right onto the beach.
I love both the beach and the mountains and the wooded areas that have a Lake where we can go fishing
People are always shocked that we can camp on Texas beaches. You guys were close to me.
Beaches? Mountains?... Beaches, Mountains? Sure, all lovely, but the option always overlooked is my personal favorite... DESERT!
Mountain Tribe!! Thank you for the comment on “Leave no Trace!”
Great Video, The first stop after camping by the Sea is a car wash, paying close attention to the underside of both your rig and your toad or truck. If not you WILL rust and fast. Any tips on keeping the sand out of your rig??
Port Lavaca area in general is great.
Dump your grey water to a bucket and use it to flush your toilet.
Genius
Composting toilet + recirculating shower for the win!
When i was in Nicaragua staying with a family, they had a large pladtic bucket in the shower for that purpose
Navy showers, wet, lather, rinse.
That is a beautiful spot on the water.
Boondocking is easy when you have been a Tent camper for 45 years. 37 ft Grand Design Solitude now.
As a child I was abused and went camping all summer with my parents. They had a truck camper for them...us kids had a tent... Try that now days... Kids would turn you in lol. I was in the military for 20 years, plenty of "camping " lol. Now I have a 5th wheel...😊🏝🏖
Montana thanks you for giving the public the FYI on grey water dumping in there state!
I tent camped with my parents from 6 months till i was 18, for two weeks every summer. We always hiked and fished so I love the Mountains and being in nature.
I am from Aransas Pass Texas not too far south from Magnolia Beach. I now live inland due to Hurricane Harvey. I love that Beach though.
I love watching you guys. Y’all are living my dream. So jelly. 💕
To collect the shower water.... It a pain but get a tub big enough to fix it there and stand in it and the water goes it the tub to use later.
Great video.. Quarantined there February and March. Campground will let you dump and fill.
Great video. Could you do a video specifically about finding beaches that can be driven on pulling 5th wheels or motorhomes?
To extend water usage while boondocking re-use water from the gray tank to flush the toilet.
To collect shower water. I recently saw a video of a new class b that collected the shower water and filtered and purified it and returned it to the shower to reuse. When done showering it was then diverted to the toilet for a final use before going into the black tank
Excellent instructional video, really very thorough. thank you sooo much!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I installed a soft starter on one of my A/C units and I can run it on a Honda 2200 Generator.
Good luck.
We like your approach and explanations....
I think some people collect the grey water while boondocking outside in a container, then flush the head with it.
BEACHES!!!! No, wait 🤔, MOUNTAINS!!!! Haha 😛 I ❤️ them both! You guys are doing it the right way! You’ve got the best of both worlds! 😉
When are you coming to California?
Love both beach and mountains!
I'm amazed at how seldom I see people using food saver vacuum devices to bring prepared meals along. Reheating requires a lot less water, propane or electricity. We took a five week trip to albuquerque and back east and still had food in the fridge.
BEACH TRIBE!!! ❤❤❤ GREAT VIDEO!! Thank you visiting Texas!!!
This is a beautiful place. Wind? Loved your message at the end! Important.
I like that you included Logan, awesome
I love the beach and the mountains. Thanks for all the tips and this spot.
Very awesome! We have never seen a beach that we would chance putting our 18000 lb rig on.
Exactly!
Neuaces State Park in Texas is good...also Port Aransas boondocking safest area.
Great video on boondocking. Nice tips for conserving resources. Thank you!
We just got a 2021 Ram bighorn to pull our rig. I really hope to see y'all on the road somewhere.
We just put ours down in our sink while moving.
We put water in containers and mostly empty our bereky, we then put it in a dish pan which we place in our shower for traveling
Leave nothing but footprints (and tire tracks)!!!
Great video and information. I have just returned from my shake-down trip where I boondocked on Fish and Wildlife land near Branson, MO. I had to cut it short because of mechanical issues but had a wonderful time while I was there.
Thanks, beautiful area! Mountains squeeze slightly ahead of beach.🤷♀️
Love your videos, so positive! Cheers from a snowy morning here in Toronto, Canada
I would recommend hosing down the underside of your vehicles and RV soon after you leave. The air is salty, the sand is salty, the gulf spray is salty. Not good for any bare steel. That's a nice spot!
We love Walker's Honey Farm! Texas Two Step mead wine is great!
Thank you for this great video.
Great spot and great video! Thanks for sharing with us! Stay safe and healthy!
Currently we are close to Magnolia Beach. May have to check it out.
