Hey guys! Just a little advice regarding leveling of the van and unhitching. ALWAYS put the caravan hand brake on and chock the wheels before unhitching, and then install the jockey wheel. DON'T put the stabilisers down until after you've unhitched, otherwise you'll be fighting them with the jockey wheel like you found out first hand. Leave the safety chains connected until after the van has been unhitched, and then disconnect everything from the car. This ensures the van can't roll away if the handbrake or chocks fail. Caravan stabilisers aren't designed to actually level the van; they're only there to stabilise it. You can damage the stabiliser mounts or stabilisers if you try and put that much weight on them. They should be locked on an angle facing forward and rearward (not straight up and down) to prevent the van from rocking back and forth and only be lowered until they're firmly planted on the ground. If your van doesn't have independant suspension with air bags, the only way to properly level the van is using leveling ramps under the wheels on one side (buy them at any caravan/camping store). You can usually get them in a kit that includes wheel chocks that are also a necessary safety feature! You're always best trying to park your van on ground that's level side to side, that way you only need to level the van using the jockey wheel. If it's unavoidable, then leveling ramps will be necessary. Love watching your family transition into life in the van! Keep up the great content 😁. By the way, your breakway is perfectly fine attached where you have it. As long as it's attached to a part of the vehicle that won't part from the vehicle if you lose your trailer, then it's fine. What you were probably told is not to install it on the actual D shackle itself, because obviously this would disappear with the trailer if the chains happened to come free 😉

Those airbags are rated to 60 psi. Put as much as you need in them when van is hooked up to be same height at the rear so your wheel alignment is still straight and you dont scrub out tyres. I have same car and bags
Also run your hot water system on gas so you can leave it on all the time, only use electric hot water when plugged in at caravan park etc.
get a 100l water bladder so it packs up small but u can fill it up in town and put in rear footwell. Water is your limiting factor when off grid use wisely. Good luck

Hi Guys, If you don't have airbags on the van, use leveling ramps for levelling left to right and then use your jockey wheel for front to back. The standard legs are only to stabalise the van. You can buy a type that lifts but wouldn't reccomend that on the standard ones as it can damage them. Love the vids.

I work in the caravan industry and am an experienced tower yes It’s illegal to put a d-shackle on correct, but as you have no where to put it take off the chrome d-shackle (carabiner hook) put the cable through the whole where your d-shackles go and hook the chrome shackle back (carabiner hook) on to the cable. that way if it ever did disconnect it’s relying on a cable not a little chrome shackle as well (carabiner hook), hope this helps.

@thatfalzonfamily run your Hot water system on gas, not from your batteries when not plugged in to 240v. This is where a lot of you battery loss will be. There will be a gas switch in the same cupboard as your power monitor, turn this one on and the 240v HW switch off. Just make sure you turn your gas bottles off when you travel.
Also, level the van on wheel levelling ramps first before taking it off the car, use the car to push the van up on them (one side only) then you do back to front levelling once you unhitch the car.
I love watching you guys do your thing but would also love to spend a couple of days with you camping to fine tune your set up. Hopefully catch you on the road one day.

Lose that electric kettle. And change for a Jet boil or similar..... Each
    100 watts
    = 8 amps.
So a toaster at 800 watts is drawing 64 amps per hour. But only being used for 3 mins
60 mins to an hour call it 60 amps ÷ 60 mins = 1 amp per min x 3 mins = 3 amps to cook toast. Toast for mum and dad cost 6 amps
If you look under all of your electrical appliances it will tell you what the amp draw is.
( per hour ) ÷ by 60 mins gives you your amp draw. In minutes.. have fun guys. And remember
How do you know where the edge is ....if you don't go out there.

That's why Luke isn't wearing pants anymore. Gotta capture that methane and attach it to the boat to reduce its mass.
Seriously, I cannot see how they're going to be able to carry an alloy boat on the roof. These 10kg roof racks have a on road load capacity of 82kg. Add a boat loader system and winch and that's another 40+kg. That leaves 42kg for the boat. No alloy boat is that light. They'll be pushing the limits with a true kit inflatable boat for on road weight limits, and would be over the limit for off-road driving.
Can't see an alloy boat legally going on their roof. Going to have to compromise and get a lightweight inflatable, or spend big $ and get something like a composite 3.7m lite ezytopper boat with integrated boat loader/trailer.
